  1. My outfield would also have Rosario be the 4th outfielder (mostly) and either sign a free agent like Rajai Davis to face lefties, or include an outfielder in a trade from the Dodgers and Dozier (something like De Leon with Puig or Toles or Trayce Thompson along with another prospect like Gavin Lux etc.) and have, say, Puig in the OF along with Kepler and Buxton.
  2. Are we certain the Nationals offered Giolito, Robles AND Lopez? I thought I'd heard it was either Giolito OR Lopez, but not both.
  3. Why is Danny Santana still on the roster? Especially over a 22 year old with a lottery ticket arm?
  4. Those Cubs, in the majors, weren't good. Doesn't mean it was necessarily his fault for that.
  5. https://twitter.com/GeorgeAKingIII/status/804444002225364993 Rowson is 40 years old, has been both the hitting coach for the Cubs and the Yankees minor league hitting instructor over the course of the past 10 years or so. I don't know much other than what Wikipedia says. Thoughts?
  6. I can be swayed either way on Gibson and Escobar. I know the previous regime had a lot of pull with Gibson (they drafted him) and I know that Escobar is an easy call if he is healthy. But man, they certainly didn't do anything last year to make anyone think that a full bounce back is in the cards. I could also see Santiago being traded for a non top 100 A ball pitcher with any level of upside before Friday. He is certainly a better option as a #5 starter than, say, Andrew Albers or Pat Dean, but if the Twins need an emergency starter this year they will have Mejia/Gonsalves et al including anyone they acquire in trades. I think Kintzler and Pressly are easy adds. They don't make much, and you can always trade bullpen arms. Pressly's slider spin rate is almost as high as Andrew Miller's, and if he starts to throw it 35-40% of the time, he will be much more difficult to hit.
  7. Nope, no way am I giving up the 1st pick in the 2nd round. I'd absolutely look elsewhere in this case.
  8. If they are going to at all attempt to be competitive in 2017, wouldn't you argue that Napoli is an upgrade over Vargas and Park? I mean, maybe he is and maybe he isn't, but he certainly was a lot better in 2016 than either of them were. I'm not saying I want the signing to happen, but I can almost see the rationale.
  9. I'm kind of with you there to an extent. That's who I was picturing as the 2017 DH combo, Park and Vargas. Napoli, to his credit, has been in the playoffs a LOT and absolutely could help mentor some of the younger guys on the team, something that Falvey and Levine have both said is important.
  10. In Darren Wolfson's latest podcast, he reported that the Twins have expressed interest in Mike Napoli. He is not someone I had pictured on the 2017 roster by any means, but he is a known commodity and would provide value at DH/1B. IF the Twins did sign him, that would muddy the picture going forward for, at the very least, Vargas, Park and arguably Grossman (if he was in the plans.) Napoli just turned 35 in October, so he will be 35 all year next year. This past year he hit .239 with a .335 on base percentage and a .465 slugging percentage, for an .800 ops. He had 34 homeruns, 101 rbi and 92 runs scored. He had a 12.1% walk rate (which the Twins need more of) and he struck out 30.1% of the time (which, well, it is what it is.) I don't know if the Twins sign him or not, but I do think I'd be ok with a 1 year plus an option, or maybe even 2 years. We don't know that we can count on Vargas or Park, and the new regime doesn't have anything invested in either of those guys. What does everyone think? Love it? Hate it?
  11. Why would you want Bradley more than Ray? I'd love either too.
  12. Could the twins get Ray and Bradley? That would be a really good start for a Dozier trade
  13. Alvarez, Puig and Sheffield. Or trade out Puig for a different prospect.
  14. Hu, the pitcher the twins traded for the great Kevin Jepsen
  15. All three trades are very interesting. I'd lean dodgers for the Nats and Rays trades would absolutely be interesting. In terms of interest I would say 1) Dodgers, 1a) Nats Lopez is really good, and 3) Rays. Does Perkins really have value though?
  16. http://www.statcorner.com/CatcherReport.php zball% is percentage of pitches that should be a strike that are called a ball. ostr% is the percentage of pitches that should be a ball that are called a strike.
  17. I read that Ryan Pressly's slider has a spin rate that is the 2nd best spin rate of any slider in baseball, to Andrew Miller. He certainly didn't throw it as often as Miller did. If he throws his slider more, he should be more difficult to hit. And hopefully May is given every chance to turn into a #3 starter.
  18. I was curious why Zach Vincej, reds ss and almost triple crown of the Arizona fall league winner, wasn't listed. Supposedly solid with the glove. Must be a reason he wasn't protected
  19. I saw this link from baseball America today on some of the top prospects in the rule 5 draft. The Twins have the 1st pick in the rule 5 draft (Thursday December 8th) so their top pick may be potentially listed here. Thoughts? http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/2016-rule-5-draft-preview/#u0B7V3DXrMfrwflH.97 On first glance; Weiss, Guillon, Fernandez and Brasoban look interesting. I can't say I know anything about any of the players, but it is fun to read.
  20. If they were to trade Santiago and Dozier (for example) they still would have a decent amount of money to sign Jason Castro and another veteran (Rajai Davis for example) while mostly going young otherwise. That wouldn't be a bad thing. And their payroll would be less than last year.
  21. Vargas isn't out of options anymore, the twins were granted a 4th option year for him this past week. That said, he hits lefties really well and is just ok against righties. If they wanted to pair someone with him who hits righties really well (say, Mauer?) that would be a useful spot at 1st. They could also let Park be the dh in that role too
  22. The twins do have the first pick in the rule 5 draft, right?
  23. http://www.espn.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/76381/a-trade-for-every-team I feel like the Chris Sale trade is light. I also feel like I would jump on the Dozier trade. Lucas Giolito! What do you guys think?
  24. Love this idea for 1 year deals. A 1 year deal does absolutely nothing to either stunt a prospect's growth (if the prospect is ready) or hurt the long term ramifications of the team. If you can turn a 1 year deal into a controllable asset at the deadline, you do that EVERY time. Should be fun to follow!
  25. Who would you prefer, Thompson or Andrew Toles?
