  1. Same here on the general manager challenge. I really liked some things about the blueprint in the handbook, and really didn't like others (WHY IN THE WORLD IS DANNY SANTANA STILL ON A MLB ROSTER?!?!?!?!?!) I don't think Castro signs for that amount, I almost think he could double that amount that is listed on the handbook. And if Josh Reddick is available for the amount listed (without a qualifying offer) I'd sign him. Fowler could be good too, but I almost think he is going to get a GREAT contract from someone else.
  2. I was hoping for people that potentially still have potential.
  3. If we are talking buy low trade candidates, what do people think it would take to acquire Taijuan Walker of the Mariners?
  4. Bucholz could be a good buy low candidate too. No argument there.
  5. I'd absolutely trade for him and let him make 15-20 starts (if healthy) and then the Twins can absolutely net something better for him at the deadline than they would be trading for him this offseason. That would be the reason to pick him up. Course, if he isn't healthy, it's a wash. That's the worst that can happen.
  6. I don't know if the typical market is set like that. But, he is a top 3 free agent starter available, and with demand where it is, I can absolutely see that being where he is set to receive. Can't you? I mean, if only 1 team wants him then he probably wouldn't make that much. But if 7 teams want him, and the qualifying offer is just over 18 million now, I can absolutely see that amount (or more) going to Hellickson. Just not from the Twins.
  7. I think a lot of teams would offer 3-4 years at 15-17 million per. He is arguably the best free agent starter on the market (Rich Hill and Ivan Nova as well) and all teams really need pitching. He may not get the 18 million dollar QO over the course of 5 years, but I can see why he would want to sign a longer term deal at 16 per. He wouldn't necessarily help a team like the Twins who need to go young and try to acquire top of the rotation arms. But for a team that needs a #4 to eat innings, I could definitely see the appeal, especially with youth on his side.
  8. Well it's a given he will get a QO from Philadelphia, right? If he doesn't, then he probably gets an even larger contract. Course, the CBA may change this rule. If that is the case, who knows what the offseason holds.
  9. Welcome to the board! I hope you enjoy the discussions! I wouldn't sign Hellickson. I don't think he is a true upgrade over what the Twins already have, and signing him would cost us our 2nd round pick, which will be a VERY high pick in the 2017 draft. I'd be more afraid of losing the draft pick even over the money that would be going towards a pitcher without top of the rotation upside.
  10. I wasn't saying this was the perfect trade, but I was saying these players fell into the mold of what the original post started out to say; 1 top prospect, another good/top 100 prospect, and a 3rd player. Do you think the cardinals would do Dozier for Weaver, Flaherty and Kelly? Or is that an overpay?
  11. NO, you don't rebuild by trading young potential superstars who are cheap for several years. You attempt to add players like Sano. He is not a finished product, but to trade him now would be beyond asinine. The only reason the twins would think about trading Dozier is because he is on a cheap 2 year deal and is going into his 30's.
  12. You are right, I shouldn't have said great. I have high hopes for Gordon, and based on his track record I believe he could reach those high expectations, but it is by no means a given. I feel like the cal league is a notorious hitters league. Is there a way to compare Russel's 20 year old season in high a to that league's average, and then compare Gordon's stats to the average FSL player this year
  13. When I said great I meant on defense. Hopefully the bat follows. It is a small sample size but he is looking good in the Arizona fall league so far.And no chance he is opening day shortstop 2018? That may be slim, but I will take that bet
  14. But none of those players are good 2nd baseman. Dozier does make a lot of sense for them
  15. Do you think it would cost Dozier and Santana to get Weaver and Kelly? Couldn't they package Dozier and Stewart (or other prospect) for those two, and use Santana in another trade? Or am I crazy (probably.) And do you think Wacha is a bounce back candidate? I feel like he could be
  16. Actually, wouldn't Reyes, Kelly and Wacha fit the scenario laid above? Are the cardinals a fit for Dozier? Maybe the twins would add Santana and a prospect because Reyes is so highly thought of
  17. How about a cardinals trade; Santana and Dozier for a bounce back bet like Wacha, their #4 prospect Jack Flaherty, eventual starting catcher Carson Kelly, and a lottery pick type low minors arm? In that scenario Kolten Wong is moving to the outfield Or would we demand Carlos Reyes or Luke Weaver instead?
  18. They can always get Zack Cozart for 2017. Nick Gordon will be great 2018 and beyond!
  19. Thrylos, I keep thinking Ervin is a great fit for the Rangers instead. What do you see there? You think the dodgers would want Santana too?
  20. I don't think Urias is a possibility. I think if the dodgers want Chris Sale, Urias is the option there. But I'd be ok with Ervin and Dozier in the same deal, but I would need a Bellinger or someone else in their top 4 back as well. As far as catcher options, this is off topic for this thread, but I would talk to the Yankees about Brian McCann. But Austin Barnes could be a good long term piece as well
  21. Mets (if they decline Neil Walker) and Pirates too
  22. Dozier? As a 33 year old pull-only hitter? I doubt it, if you are the twins.
  23. Like who? What would you add?
  24. I can see that. I really like De Leon too. I feel like any trade with the Dodgers would have to absolutely include Alvarez, mostly for his top of the rotation potential. Maybe those two and one of the other players listed?
  25. How about Dozier to the Dodgers for... 1) Yadier Alvarez, #91 overall, probably at A+ in 2017 2) Yusniel Diaz, #93 overall, probably at A+ or AA in 2017 3) Jordan Sheffield, outside top 100, probably A+ or AA in 2017 4) Gavin Lux, 1st round pick in 2016, Elizabethton in 2017 Or is that too much? I feel like Alvarez is the key, as a 70 grade pitch (fastball) and a 55 pitch (slider) along with a changeup. Could really develop into something. The others all have fairly high potential as well, and this would go a long ways towards the Twins' future and rebuilding the prospect depth.
