  1. This has to be the weirdest draft ever. When was the last time that this many relative unknowns have risen this late. Also I can't ever remember a college relief pitcher with the belief that he can start ever in consideration to go top 5 much less #1 overall (Jay). I'm fairly in tune when it comes to draft prospects and most years I usually know players up until the 3rd round at times but I had never heard of this guy until recently and he's in consideration for the #3 pick?! Crazy!
  2. I've been saying this for a while, his delivery lends itself to injury. He puts way too much torque on his shoulder and back as he follows through. I wouldn't touch him with our pick, I'd maybe take a flier if we were sitting at the back of the 1st but he's pretty risky to me
  3. I'm gonna choose to blame Bill Smith......totally all his fault
  4. Man, I go MIA for a few weeks and the whole draft class blows up, what happened?
  5. Is Mauer considered an emergency option?
  6. Well during that span we also had the likes of Adam Johnson and BJ Garbe and probably a lot more in the top 100
  7. Interesting that the study states that the Twins had an 80% bust rate, one of the highest
  8. Yea, after watching the video I was a bit concerned about his mechanics and I couldn't quite put language to it (I'm more familiar with pitching mechanics) but I had to keep reminding myself that it was a 16 year old I was watching. I still don't see a $4 million player though and I liked Vlad's son a lot better (although apparently he doesn't have a position)
  9. Wow, this is not like the Twins to go and blow all of their bonus money on one guy, I like it! the last time they did this was when they signed Sano and so far that's looked like a good move
  10. If it helps I've always liked Gleeman's site and I've never really thought of his as overly negative, sarcastic and critical, maybe at times but I personally find it humorous and his baseball analysis fairly accurate
  11. Who are your biggest sleeper prospects in our system?
  12. I've talked about this in the past and haven't really seen any other comments about it. Matuella puts a lot of stress on his shoulder in his delivery towards the end. He cranks his shoulder forward awkwardly and it twists his whole body (especially his back) in the process. While it might not seem like a big deal at first, replicated over time could cause many issues (some of which he has already had). Mark Prior had this same release and it ultimately cost him his career. Does anyone else see this or am I just crazy? Check it out: http://youtu.be/_NNfiVoje7s
  13. I would rather have a guy post a 6.4 K/9 and post a sub 3 era with a 1.1 WHIP rather than have a guy post an 11 K/9 with an 11 ERA and 2.250 WHIP like Toussaint did, how is that not a red flag?!
  14. I've also not seen so many draft picks from that year make it on a top 100 list, usually the first 5 or 6 guys make the list, there are 15 (that I counted) of this years picks that made it and the first overall didn't sign so he wasn't there, that's an insane jump from years past and from other lists. It's also interesting that Schwarber was the 2nd highest of the group when he was considered an extreme reach (by BA) when he was drafted, although he did hit well in his shortened season this year it's kinda odd that he would skyrocket up to #19 overall after being considered the #18 best prospect in the draft just prior to being drafted by BA just because he hit .300 as a 21 y/o in A ball.
  15. But Buxton and Sano have considerably higher ceilings than those that I listed and have shown great years in the past. Several of the guys I listed were recent draft picks who weren't even top 10 picks who didn't show much if anything in the debut, McGuire wasn't a high pick and has shown so far that he will most likely be a replacement level defensive minded catcher, if that, Ross hasn't ever really shown much to be considered a top prospect and he looks to be a #4 or 5 starter at best, Zimmer is the only one who was a high pick and has been a top prospect in the past but he struggled at A+ in 2013 and got hurt last year, other than that he's really only shown flashes here and there. Buxton and Sano are in completely different categories
  16. Not having Stewart on this list is suspect and it makes no sense, here are just a few guys that did make the list who had considerably worse years than Stewart and don't even have the potential that Stewart has either: Reese McGuire (was barely over .300 OBP at single A, drafted same time as Stewart and struggled way worse in his first year), Kyle Zimmer (pitched 4 innings all year), Jeff Hoffman (got TJ, hasn't even pitched outside of college), Erick Freede (also hasn't pitched outside college), Sean Newcomb (struggled after being drafted in low A as a 21 y/o), Touki Toussaint (also struggled after being drafted, 2.250 WHIP in rk ball), Joe Ross (extremely pedestrian numbers in A-AA). Again that's just a few. Most scouting sites agree that Stewart is usually a top 50 prospect but BA vaguely says "many scouts were disappointed," it just doesn't add up to me
  17. Man is it exciting to see all of these prospects develop and potentially join Arcia, Santana, Vargas, May, Gibson and the likes, the future is bright indeed. I know not all of these guys will pan out but we have a fighting chance with that many potential good ones. I can see Detroit having a massive fall off with no farm system as Cabrera and Verlander get older
  18. I'd probably go with option B but most likely would do some kind of hybrid of these line ups. I don't think Santana is fit to bat in the 3 hole on option A but Walker is most likely a bench bat/defensive sub on option B
  19. Just a note, I made it before but I'm not sure if anyone caught it. Cody Ponce Is this year's hot rising prospect name because of the infamous cape cod league dominance and small school designation. While the numbers are impressive and his stuff is pretty good his arm action is scary, I mean I was almost wincing at every pitch because it looks like he will blow his arm out at any moment. I'm sure scouts have caught on to that and he might fall to our 2nd round pick because of that but I'm not sure I'd take him. He could tone it down and save his arm a bit and he might just have a strong body but his ceiling might be like a Kerry Wood type, have a ton of injuries but still manage to have a long career as a reliever. What do I know though, has anyone else seen him and have any opinions?
  20. I've said it on here before but I still like Bickford. In all the videos I've seen his mechanics have improved since high school and he still has good stuff, from what I understand he has a good 4 pitch mix. I'm excited about the chance at a good college pitcher and there are several out there that look good. Aiken, Kirby, Funkhouser, Matuella, Bickford, and Beuhler would all be excellent picks. I'm still weary about Matuella though because his delivery is fairly violent and looks like it could lead to injury problems down the road. Throw in Cameron, Bregman, and others and it looks like we will have a solid group to pick from
  21. Funkhouser had an impressive day vs Alabama St, I still feel like he's more of a reliever long term but I could be wrong on that. I still love Kirby at our pick
  22. He said RHRP, Perkins is a lefty
  23. I'm not really that dedicated
  24. Just a theory but guys that are over matched in the minors might see electric stuff and think "there's no way I'm gonna get a hit" and the might just sit on a lot of pitches where as guys in the Majors see that kind of stuff frequently and are therefore more confident to swing
  25. I was furious at the Gutierrez, Hicks, and Bashore picks I wanted Conner Gillespie and Brett Lawrie bad. However I did think that Levi Michael was gonna be a good pick and Shooter Hunt looked like a steal. You win some, you lose some. The Twins however seemed to lose them all
