  1. Counter point, This is also the same line of thinking that had 5 teams drafting College pitchers over Kershaw in 2006, only 1 of which turned into a good pitcher (as a reliever mind you) in Andrew Miller. Also in that draft multiple teams passed on Lincecum because he was small and was destined for the pen, kinda like Bukauskas. The last few guys I remember having this conversation about were Jameson Tallion, Dylan Bundy, and Lucus Giolito. In those cases the 1st two have made it to the majors and pitched quite well and Giolito is one of the best prospects in the minors. Aiken was obviously another guy who was talked about like this but no one could've predicted his circumstances and he could still end up being good
  2. My list is close to yours. Mine is 1. Greene 2. Lewis 3. Wright 4. Faedo 5. Kendall I don't really like Kendall at all and I wouldn't pick him unless all of the other guys have completely imploded, just my take.
  3. I have been around baseball most of my life and I have never heard a single person use the term "regression" to discribe a player getting better, not once
  4. I disagree. Almost all of the vets had a down year besides Dozier's home run totals and Santana. There are a lot of young guys on this team with massive potential and many of them started to really shine at the end of last year. I expect a break out season from at least Buxton, Kepler, and Sano. Also we now have a catcher who is know for his pitch framing which will help the pitching staff, we have a new hitting coach, and we could see significant improvement from guys like Berrios, Polanco, and Rosario, as well as a stronger bullpen (it really can't get worse). Where exactly do you see regression? Mauer won't get worse as a hitter, if anything he will get better another year removed from the concussion (see what Morneau did, it took 4 years to get better for him), Hughes, Gibson, May, Jensen, and Santiago all had a career worst years last year. The only place I see for regression is Santana. Anywhere else?
  5. I think it's a little low but not too far off. We have a lack of guys at the top after Berrios, Kepler, and Buxton graduated. According to their rankings we have 3 in the top 100 with Gordon being the first at #60. Most of these ranking sites are way down on Romero though who I expect to shoot up the boards this year. If everything goes our way look for us to be back in the top 10 next year!
  6. At first I thought this was over all and I balked at the ranking but since it's just position players I can see it, the top 10-15 prospects for us lean pitching heavy as quite a few of our position prospects have graduated. Our over all farm system is probably somewhere in the 13-18 range right now but I expect some helium from several of our prospects (Diaz, Javier, Kirilloff, and Romero specifically) this next year. Add the #1 overall pick this year and we could be back in the top 10 very soon, especially considering we don't really have many prospects who should graduate this year
  7. I don't see a ton of strictly present grades because it would skew perspective towards college guys every time. I like the split grades because it gives you a little bit of an idea of how raw they are and how high the ceiling is. I have seen guys use only future grades because for a prospect that is what you're looking for is future potential, not really what they currently are.
  8. Certainly those are future grades, prospects rarely if ever grade out like that initially. The grades from Lewis for example read like one of the best SS in the majors which we know he currently is not
  9. My initial rankings of who I want is 1. Greene 2. Wright 3. Lewis 4. Faedo 5. McKay or Buskakas I don't really want Kendall because I'm concerned with his hit tool, doesn't seem like a fit. Kevin Smith I have not looked at too much yet, could be a wild card if he has an excellent spring. I also have Faedo lower than most because I feel like he could have a lengthy injury history due to his mechanics and he has already had several issues so far, you can't help the team much from the DL.
  10. These are by far not a consensus on a top 3. first of all Jeren Kendall is a College OF from Vandy, he is also a speedy leadoff guy with great defense and questions about his bat, no thanks. Faedo has an injury history and mechanics that suggest continued injuries down the road. I prefer RHP Kyle Wright from Vandy, Royce Lewis HS SS, and Green (my favorite so far) as my top 3 for now
  11. While I agree that he shouldn't be traded for peanuts I feel like now is absolutely the best time to trade him. He just came off a 40 HR season, almost double his previous best. Also up until this past year he had never hit .250 in his career. He will be 30 next season and we could only reasonably expect 3 or so good years out of him IF he can maintain last year's numbers and they aren't a fluke (there's a high chance he will regress). His value as a player is at it's highest right now than it will likely ever be and with how poorly we played last year even with Dozier it's reasonable to assume he is not vaulting us to the playoffs. I don't want to give him away for nothing but we should be lighting up the phones seeing if we can get some elite prospects back for him
  12. I didn't know that's where Ommegang was from, maybe I can convince my wife to let us stop there for lunch instead. We really have to make it to NYC that evening so we wouldn't have a bunch of time but might be worth the stop
  13. Actually Canton is on our way but that's our Niagara day and we have to make it to Rochester that day, just not enough time and I also don't wanna bore the wife too much
  14. Actually I meant Rochester, NY, we will be coming from a family reunion there. I live in KC and I'm going to be driving to upstate NY from there. We are stopping at Niagara however my wife couldn't get her passport so we will be staying on the American side. We will only have a few hours if we go to Cooperstown, I hope that's not too little of time
  15. My family is taking a road trip next week to new york. We are driving from Rochester to NYC and I was thinking about stopping in Cooperstown to check out the hall of fame. As it's a little out of our way and kind of expensive I was wondering if anyone's been there and if it's worth the stop and $$$? Any tips or feedback would be appriciated. Thanks
  16. You realize that she is from Indiana and went to college and worked for 6 years in Chicago right? While the Twin Cities might be slightly colder than those places I would venture to bet it's not that far off. according to the Weather Channel, Minneapolis was the coldest major metropolitan in the US and Chicago is the 6th and Indianapolis is the 15th. I'm sure she can handle the cold for an opportunity to be the GM of a major league franchise
  17. I have another name to throw out there. Candidate: Eric Streif Role: Twins Fan Eric has been a Twins fan all his life, his qualifications include: being strongly opposed to the drafting of Levi Michael, Carlos Gutierrez, Luke Bard, Matthew Bashore, and Aaron Hicks; good interpersonal skills; experience with real estate contracts and negotiations (therefore dealing with baseball contracts and negotiations will be a breeze, right?). It would be a bold choice but one I personally would approve of! Besides him, I like Ng (can someone please tell me how to pronounce that?) or McLeod. Ng sounds extremely smart and has the experience to back it up, plus being the first Woman GM would probably provide extra motivation to kick ass. I like that McLeod has worked with Epstein for years. While that doesn't automatically qualify him it can't hurt that he's worked along side the best in the business for so long, right? However that didn't really work in Ben Affleck's favor, so......
  18. The disagreement was likely over the Pohlad's wanted to actually field a good team, TR disagreed
  19. Is it too early to think about bringing Kirilloff up? He's killing it at e-town!
  20. So weird, I would've thought a forced retirement would be in order for a guy who has served this organization for as long as he did. It needed to happen but honestly he never should've came back after Smith was canned, that set us back several years
  21. That's horrible! Are they at least compensated as far as food/housing/etc?
  22. Why is 75 wins not an option? Us homers need to be represented!
  23. Actually he has an advanced bat and prospects like that tend to move quickly in the minors. I'm not saying you're wrong but I wouldn't be surprised if we saw him in like 4 years, at least as a late season call up
