That Red Wings line up is going to be something crazy this year. My concern is how many of those players are blocked by guys in the majors, I know it's a good problem to have but something's got to give and I'm worried with our bullpen struggles some good players are going to be dumped for relief arms (again)

Man waiting on rain delays sucks....... -
That's a huge disparity! My point though is we didn't really have crap back then, no wonder we went through so many years of rebuilding

Reading this list is reminding me of how insanely deep our farm is even after graduating Sano and May. Any of those guys from 30-20 would be top 15 players in most systems, ABW and Stewart are probably top 5 players in most systems and Jay would be a top 3 player! That top 3 is crazy and I feel like all 3 of those guys could become all stars in their career at some point. Remember when Blackburn was our #1 overall prospect and Joe Benson was always top 3? I feel like both of those guys would be outside the top 10 now. We are lucky and while not all of these guys will make it I'm optimistic about our future

Article: Draft Blog, Entry 1 (2/9/16)
twinsfanstreif replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I know I'm not Jeremy but I really like Benson. He's Huge (6'6" 220) and will likely grow some more but he plays so fluid I think he could be a plus defender. Looks like he's got some good speed too. Dispite some reports his arm looks pretty weak to me (at least on the only OF video I could find). Plays kinda reckless like Buxton does but I like it, as long as it doesn't result in injuries or too many mental mistakes. His stroke reminds me of Eric Hosmer when he was in HS. He doesn't generate a ton of power dispite his frame which most likely is a result from his inconsistant plant foot. Needs to learn how to create more leverage with his legs. He's a little raw but I really like his tools- 43 replies

This is the most ridiculous post I've ever seen on here! You would be pissed if the Twins ended up with guys who were like Tom Glavine, Greg Maddux, Brad Radke, Phil Niekro, Orel Hershiser, Mike Mussina, Madison Bumgarner, or Cliff Lee? All guys who had (or have) low 90s fastballs. Steve Dalkowski had what many believe as the best Fastball of all time but he fizzled out because he couldn't hit the strikezone. We've drafted guys like Shooter Hunt and Billy Bullock and they were awful. Newsflash as well, Successful flamethrower pitchers that can hit the strikezone and start rarely drop out of the top 10 unless they are injured. Maybe if we were in the top 5 we could have this discussion but at #16 those guys aren't going to be there without serious question marks- 43 replies

Guys I'm going to be keeping an eye on for this draft: Chris Okey - C, Clemson: He's the top catcher in this class and that's where we're weak. He needs to shorten up his swing but he's a solid overall player Matt Krook - LHP, Oregon: Coming off TJ last year and has been getting his strength back, it will all depend on how he responds this year and if he can get his velocity up, he has a very smooth motion though Kyle Funkhouser - RHP, Louisville: Power pitcher that we're all familiar with. He faded last year and dropped to the supplemental round. If he dominates this year we might not have a shot at him William Benson - OF, HS: Tall, Athletic, and plays with a ton of fire. He reminds me of a bigger lefthanded version of Buxton. He's a corner OF/1B because many think he will grow (or is already) too big for any other position but he moves really well and has great speed for his size Cal Quantrill - RHP, Stanford: He was a top prospect before TJ surgury, it will be interesting to see how he recovers, could be a sleeper. His motion is a little high stress and could become an issue, reminds me of Matuella last year but not as violent Andrew Lantrip - RHP, Houston: I'm bias because I'm a Houston fan but he has improved every year and is the best starter on a very good team. He has some mechanical issues to clean up especially out of the stretch but he could be a good one especially in the 2nd or 3rd- 43 replies

The problem is we passed on Aaron Nola for this very reason and he's proving that he can hold his own in the majors and the "high ceiling" guy we drafted has been kinda "meh," you forget that Radke and Maddox were this type of pitcher and they were great......- 43 replies

If Buxton turned out to have a career like Torri Hunter would we be disappointed? Not quite the Griffy Jr. or Mike Trout we thought he could be but it would be really solid. It's looking like he could go that way and I don't think it would be all that bad

The Blank Check For Matt Wieters

Yea, I feel like the "ideal" catcher's build is a bit outdated, it used to be in the past these tall catchers were prone to knee and hip injuries and you wanted a shorter guy because his catch and throw was usually a bit quicker and he wouldn't get as many injuries. The catch and throw obviously isn't an issue with Navarreto and these days with modern conditioning, training, medicine, surgery, and the like the knee issue is almost a thing of the past. In fact that was a concern for Mauer but his injuries were usually back stuff and then the freak concussion, the only leg stuff he delt with was the mysterious bilateral leg weakness. Does anyone remember any knee stuff with Mauer?

Off-season moves and 2016 roster
twinsfanstreif commented on ttreadway's blog entry in Twinsfan4life
Are we absolutely sure that the Twins don't plan on Sano being a DH full time a la David Ortiz? I know he has more value as a 3B but they've played him there once so far even with other opportunities they opted to go with Nunez instead. Molitor doesn't seem comfortable with him at 3rd so it looks like he's gonna DH at least for a little bit. Plus we don't really have other great options for DH, until Vargas or Arcia start hitting Sano is our best option there. I would be down with trading Plouffe for a Catcher but absolutely not for a bullpen guy, he has too much value for that kind of trade. I'm still on the Plawecki from the Mets bandwagon. I don't think Susac is realistic, and Norris is OK -

I would be reluctant to give up Berrios as I feel he could be the Ace we've been waiting for. Gibson would be hard to stomach but he's probably at his peak value and is likely to regress to an ERA somewhere in the mid 3s with low Ks making him a good but not great pitcher that's more of a #2/3 type. I'd be ok with parting with him for Tulo. A package of Gibson/May, Polanco, Meyer, and a mid level prospect like Harrison would be ok to me -
