  1. Burns sounds like a smaller version of Gonsalves, sounds like a great pick in the 4th round, if he pitched in the mid 90s he probably would've been a 1st rounder
  2. I'm a little late to the game but this was who I was hoping for and made a ton of sense here, they must have had info that Leach would be gone and nabbed him. It's reported that we saved money with Lewis and Rooker should also go well below slot as a senior.I watched a bunch of video of Enlow and Carlson today and I think I like Enlow better, Carlson's mechanics are too much for me, I don't know how he stays healthy pitching that way. Hooray, peace is restored!
  3. Draft Site (that's the name of the site) is a joke, they post a random mock for each sport that goes super deep and they never really update it, even when it says it is. They probably had us going with Faedo before the draft
  4. The weak arm narrative on Lewis has become way overblown, nearly every scouting report I've read says his arm is adequate. Maybe not a plus tool but adequate enough to stay at short long term according to pretty much everything I've read on him
  5. Nearly every scouting report I read says the opposite, I don't know where you're getting your info from but every write up on him states something like "most scouts believe he can stick at short"
  6. What if the Mariners are the ones who don't know what they're doing? Carlson may have been asking for around $4 million (something we might not be able to afford) and they may have tried to call his bluff and hope he signs. It's not something major league teams typically do but it happened last year at pick 41, you never know
  7. Listen, I'm not super crazy about the last 2 picks either but Rooker was a guy we all talked about and he looks like a good one, his numbers were much better than McKay's as a 1B. And the Leach pick took me off guard but he definitely has potential, this is not like the Bashore pick where he looked doomed from the start. There also has to be more to the Carlson story and maybe he did tell teams he wouldn't sign but Seattle decided to take the risk, there is still a chance he won't sign. In 2012 I really wanted the Twins to draft Mitch Brown and we passed on him three times (or was it four?) and he hasn't really done much, maybe Carlson really wasn't as good as we all thought, who knows
  8. scouting reports of Leach sound a lot like like Hudson Boyd's did to me, hopefully he can have more success than Hudson did
  9. Leach? I'm not even sure who he is.There has to be something with Carlson right? This almost seems like 2 more money saving guys at #35 and #37, weird
  10. There goes Lange, I liked him. At this point it's looking more and more like we cut a deal with Carlson prior to the draft and he told other teams that he wanted a high bonus. He was a top 15 talent, no other reason for him to be here at this point
  11. I would love to go back and read these comments 5 years from now
  12. I'm soooooo happy about this! I really wanted to avoid Wright and McKay as I feel like they will both just be ok players but not stars, while Gore, Lewis, and Greene have much higher ceilings. I personally wanted Gore more but Lewis was not far behind. I'm not as concerned about his bat as much as I've seen reported, his swing is a little long but so was a prospect named Aaron Judge. I think he has big time potential as a long term SS. If we can get a deal here too and end up with Carlson at #35 this could be a really great pick
  13. To play Devil's advocate to your devil's advocate, are you saying that you would rather have Gibson opposed to Trout? Or Appel over Bryant?
  14. But we can't think like that, think of teams that passed on Trout because they needed pitching (we sure did) or the Astros passing on Bryant for Appel because they needed pitchers. There is much regret in baseball from teams drafting for need
  15. I found the note very interesting on the BA mock, they said a Twins front office guy says the pick is down to 4, McKay, Wright, Greene, and Lewis. It's very interesting that Gore was removed but not Lewis, I wonder if a pre draft deal could be done with him a la Correa in 2012, if you remember Correa was ranked in the 5-8 range that year and nobody had mocked him to the Astros, it was practically all Appel and a few Buxton
  16. I still remember 2012, it seemed like the Astros we're locked in on either Buxton or Appel (every mock draft up until then had them choosing one of those 2) and they correctly chose Correa who if you remember was ranked anywhere from 5-8 at the time. It was a money saving deal but they also got the best player. I'm hoping for a little of that with us this year, maybe Lewis or my favorite Gore
  17. No mention of Gore? He has a legit curve. If I were in charge he is who I would go with. I'm not a fan of either Wright or McKay and I'm on the fence about Greene
  18. Interestingly Lincecum has a career 21 WAR which is pretty good but Radke's is 45
  19. I think they actually know what they're talking about and it's not just a "smooth" delivery that matters, it has a lot to do with movement and stress on the body. They actually note Greene's smooth delivery but also note that it doesn't seem like his legs are strong enough so he's compensating with his arm which could lead to lots of stress on the arm, they basically say that it is fixed with gaining some mass in his lower half. Also with Lincecum he has struggled with injuries but his body held up for about 4 stellar years with the Giants before he started to break down, and the stress in his delivery was not on his arm, it was mostly on his hips and back (which is exactly where he got hurt. Yoh say "nobody knows" except that's not entirely true, sports science experts have been studying this for years now and injury prediction due to mechanics and biology are getting pretty good.
  20. If it helps those guys were much more positive about Greene than Wright and they are hyper critical of everyone in their videos
  21. Appel didn't have the success in college that Strasburg or Price did or even really Wright. He was mostly projection based on his stuff but he was extremely hittable in college, I was very against drafting him in 2012 because of that and I thought the Astros we're dumb to draft him in 2013. I feel like Wright is not as much of a risk as Appel but I'm still worried about injuries with him
  22. Disclaimer, I am not a scout. But Wright is a different pitcher than all of those guys, maybe kinda like a Strasburg lite but mostly he reminds me a lot of Kevin Gausman coming out of college who's success has been pretty much right in the middle of those guys. Also I don't think Write is as polished and is not as "quick to the majors" as some around here have implied. I think Wright will have a good career barring injuries but he doesn't have as dominant of stuff as some of the other consensus #1 guys
