So is Bryan Sammons a legit prospect now? I thought he was supposed to be a money saving senior signing but every time he pitches it seems to be a gem. He looks like a steal right now

That E-Town offense!!!!! Wow, even without Rooker they are rolling. I wonder how long until Bechtold, Gore, Miranda, and Contreras get the call up, they are all tearing it up down there

Any reason why we haven't seen Leach, Enlow, or Widell yet? Seems like they've been signed for long enough to make a start by now

I'm so glad we're past the whole "wins are an important stat for pitchers" era. I always thought it was ridiculous and to be honest I kinda wish they would get rid of it, I don't even look at a pitcher's win loss record when I look at their stats anymore because it means nothing

WARNE: Four Trades the Minnesota Twins Should Consider Making
twinsfanstreif commented on Brandon Warne's blog entry in BW on the Beat
1. Absolutely Not! Way too much to give up 2. Probably a no as well, if we are gonna trade Santana, we don't need another SS, I would much rather trade for a Catching prospect or pitching. I know you need to accumulate talent but we have to start thinking about our future roster, especially if you're getting guys close to the majors 3. Maybe, I don't really know what weakening our BP situation for a guy who is only 19 does for us, especially considering our potential BP disaster post Kinzler. I like Kinzler and I think if we become sellers he would be on the short list to net a good return but I'm not sure I'm on board with the proposed trade. 4. Yes, I do that trade tomorrow. Goodrum is most likely not part of our future and I don't see him contributing much beyond a bench utility guy and Neshek would help with our BP problems that have plagued us all year. He might not be part of the future plans but it wouldn't cost too much either -
Even though there is no way we win in the playoffs this year I think it would be good to get some playoff experience for these young guys. I feel like that would be a really good thing for the development of our guys to make a run in the next few years. To trade for Neshek would probably not cost a high end prospect either, what does everyone think? Would trading Palka for Neshek be too much, too little, or just about right?

The GCL Twins somehow only scored one run on 14 hits! I'm not even mad, that's impressive

Actually every scouting report around draft time noted raw power and said he could have more coming as he fills out, in fact our scouting director at the time Deron Johnson was quoted saying "He's a good-sized kid. He has a chance to have power for sure."

Article: Reflecting On The Draft 1 Month Later
twinsfanstreif replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Another thing to note is that they don't know who is gonna fall and how much money they are gonna need. Drafting Lewis first gave them the flexibility to go after guys like Bechtold, De La Torre, and Widell. Sure they could've still gotten Enlow with a McKay or Wright but they probably wouldn't have taken a shot on those guys where they did. It also may have not been known how much all of these guys would sign for. It was probably more of a guesstimate. It's really easy to pick this apart in hindsight but a draft is pretty complicated to execute at the time and stay within your bonus pool -

The Ray's did not sign their Supplimental first round pick after giving way over slot to McKay and their 2nd rounder. They saved money from that point but doing some rough math they have to be pretty close to over the 5% max or right on it. Also there's debate as to whether or not they will receive a pick next year for not signing him or if he will just become a FA. Very interesting -

I loved the draft at the time (I wanted either Gore or Lewis, not a fan of McKay) and it's looking even better today. Lewis is playing well and although we haven't seen any of the high drafted pitchers yet our other picks have also been faring well so far. Even some of our senior money saving guys and late round signings have been playing well too! While this means little right now it's definitely a good sign. It kind of hurts that we could have drafted Carlson and Enlow and theoretically signed the both of them while paying the overage tax (this strategy may have also cost us Widell, Bechfield, or De La Torre) but Leach is no slouch either, he could end up being a good one and they obviously liked him more. Ultimately people were blind side by the Lewis pick and the passing of Carlson but I think in time it will look like the right decision -
Would anyone do Kohl Stewart and maybe a lower level prospect for Hand? Seems like it could be a good swap to me

Now the draft signing tracker on MLB Daily Dish also has leach at $1.4 million. Any news on over slot guys from day 3? I'm thinking Rodriguez, Cade Smith, Tyler Grey, Jonny DeLuca, or maybe Max Meyer would be candidates to sign but there's such little info out there it's hard to find anything and google searches are relatively fruitless, the only thing I could find was Adam Oviedo is definitely not signing

Not sure how reliable it is but according to this: https://www.canadianbaseballnetwork.com/canadian-baseball-network-articles/elliott-six-figure-signing-bonu-for-canadians Leach signed for 1.4 million. If that's true we might have even more wiggle room with a few of our late rounders

I believe according to the last update if Leach signs for $1,466,400 than we will be exactly at slot, it is reported that he signed for "just under" $1.5 million which is pretty close to that. In any case I think we have a little more wiggle room with the 5% if A. Some of the guys we want are willing to take it, and B. The Polhands are willing to pay the tax on that (there is an extra tax assessed on the extra $ that a team goes over it's pool)

So essentially if we are at slot with our first 10 rounds (which we should be close) we could offer someone around $500k to forego college?

So provided that we sign Leach for about what we have left are we allowed to go 5% over our full pool on the remaining rounds? is that how it works or is it just 5% over on the top 10 rounds? I would like to see Rodriguez and Cade Smith sign but not sure if we have the money
