Cross-sports reference: Clayton Kershaw was the center on Matthew Stafford’s high school football team and Stafford was Kershaw’s catcher on the baseball team.
It appears there could be a roster crunch in earnest in the next two weeks plus. Kepler is due back in a week or less with no easy move to clear space. Lewis will come off the IL on or around June 1st and Castro or Solano could be in jeopardy and Jose Miranda might also hit his way back again without easy moves to clear space.
Yup, fits the pattern for TJS. Alcalá seemed to be up and down on the velo and breaking ball sharpness. I wouldn’t count on him throwing another pitch for the Twins. All speculation, of couse.
Gus Varland has a nice story as a Rule V guy who has made the Brewers' roster this year. He spent time on the IL and just came back to the Brew Crew and unfortunately was lit up last night (9 ER in 2/3 inning).
Lewis is on a rehab assignment with a 20-day window. He is on the 60-day IL and can't be activated until June 1. When he completes his rehab, he has to be added to the 40-man roster. If there was thought that he definitely wasn't going to be ready, there was no reason start him on his rehab.
Angels have placed Rendon on the IL, meaning we'll see Gio at third, probably for the whole series. Honestly, I wish him well, just so long as the Twins win.
