  1. I think the composition of the bench is dependent on how many pitchers are on the first round active roster. If the Twins keep 11 pitchers, they have room for running and defense specialist Stevenson plus perhaps an all-or-nothing at-bat or two from Buxton. If they have 12 pitchers active, they will have to make tougher decisions. I think that Kyle Farmer could be the third baseman if Lewis can't go in the field. He's shown the ability to get big hits and is a sound fielder at whatever infield position he plays. Polanco just doesn't look that good at third base and now he's dealing with an ankle injury.
  2. I think Jeffers has done more than enough to play the bulk of the postseason games. While Vázquez has flirted with a .600 OPS, Jeffers has kept his above .800, quite a difference. As far as calling the game, handling pitchers and defending, I don't see either guy as a clear-cut superior player.
  3. Okay, I don’t think Ryan has lost his spot, but it might reduce confidence in him to pitch deep in a possible Game 3. Stewart gave up two weak contact singles, but got a strikeout to keep Colorado off the board.
  4. The homer was where Ryan throws 50 pitches per game. Not many guys square up the fastball above the zone.
  5. Ryan needs nine Ks for 200 this season. It has been a while since the Twins had two guys with over 200 strikeouts. Also Ryan need 5.2 innings to hit 162 innings and qualify for the ERA championship.
  6. 1) Solano 1B 2) Polanco 2B 3) Luplow LF 4) Jeffers C 5) Farmer SS 6) Castro 3B 7) Kepler RF 8) Vázquez DH 9) Taylor CF. Ryan pitching. 1) Blackmon DH 2) Rodgers 2B 3) Jones LF 4) Montero 1B 5) McMahon 3B 6) Diaz C 7) Bouchard RF 8) Trejo SS 9) Doyle CF Blach pitching. Twins score one in the top of the first.
  7. Hey, there's a game tonight!
  8. If Buxton is as healthy as he can be, he offers power and straight ahead speed. It’s hard to imagine that he could be an upgrade over Julien as a DH or MAT as a center fielder at this point. Given they will have a couple of extra non-pitchers, I think he might be on the active roster.
  9. Three months without Stewart is not "an extended period of time"? I would agree that the health of the pitching staff was very good and a big reason that the Twins walked to the AL Central championship.
  10. The ball isn’t carrying. I hope it isn’t like this next week.
  11. If the Twins could get Buxton at some portion of 100%, yeah great, but it just doesn’t seem likely.
  12. I thought the might PR Stevenson here.
  13. Yes, it would be great to sneak into the #2 seed, but it would nice to have a better record than whoever doesn’t make the postseason. I really don’t want hear national people saying the Twins didn’t deserve to make the postseason based on their record. Right now, they’re tied with Seattle and trail the other possible Wild Cards.
  14. Good point and I share your concern. While he is having a decent (half) year, he just hasn’t done much with middle-in pitches, especially the down and in pitches that are in most lefty’s “nitro zone”.
  15. Not me. They've got way better arms available. He gives up too much contact and has to be very fine with his pitches.
  16. On a serious note, this has been a positive development this season. I was afraid teams would run wild on the Twins this year, partly because of the catchers and mostly because of the pitchers. It really hasn't happened and the Twins have stolen bases efficiently, in large measure because of Castro. At one point the Twins had stolen more bases than were stolen against them and with a higher stolen base percentage. I don't know if that is still the case, but they haven't been dominated in the stolen base part of the running game.
  17. Duran should probably be on the postseason active roster. /s/
  18. Cole's two-hit shutout of the Jays most likely clinches the ERA crown and Cy Young for him, if he hadn't wrapped it up already.
  19. I'd say he's looking better, not quite to good.
  20. I believe it is Seattle, as things stand and that would make the Twins the #3 seed.
  21. I don't think Funderburk has 98, but everyone else can reach those velocities.
  22. Despite all the strikeouts, the Twins have a Top Ten offense. They've raised their team OPS to .749 and have been much better since the All-Star break. In their last five games, they face the two teams that have allowed the most runs in MLB, so their numbers figure to improve on offense. On the flip side, the Twins have allowed the fewest runs in the AL, fueled by a starting rotation that is top five in about every stat but victories. They are playing their best baseball right now.
