    Almost every team goes through a funk. Last year, the Dodgers, Rays and Braves had their funk in the playoffs. The Twins aren't as bad as they've played, but some of the guys need to get it going soon or St. Paul is in their future. I've thought Varland could be a decent starter, but I am starting to wonder whether his call might be the bullpen. Move him there and see if Woods Richardson can be a credible starter.

    Lewis is expected to miss a minimum of six weeks with ten weeks the more likely outcome.

    Temporary move with a DFA after Thielbar is ready is my guess. I don't think they want to lose any of those you mentioned.

    Buxton has K'd the last three times he came up with RiSP, but he was 3-3 prior to that, so SSS he's actually doing well. Looking at box scores, there are lots of good and great hitters hitting under .200. It is just too early to make rash decisions about players. Guys can literally double their BA with one good game and go from horrible to great with a hot series. Yes, the Twins have more than their share of slow starts, but just a game or two can correct a lot when it comes to the numbers.

    Funderburk didn't earn a spot this spring, he got there because of the late BP injuries. If he wants to stay, he needs to pitch better.

    So far, other than when Santana enjoyed the platoon advantage, he hasn't cost Kirilloff any at-bats, but did result in Wallner on the bench vs. a right hander. I continue to shake my head that the 38 year old (on Monday) is getting all the defensive reps at first, but he's been solid in the field. I am wondering when Santana won't be in the lineup for the first time--perhaps Sunday? That would figure to be a Buxton DH day and if the team wants to keep Kirilloff's bat in the lineup, they might send the veteran to the bench.

    IIRC, the Twins were above the mean in games lost to injuries again last year, but closer to the middle than at the top (10th or 11th in games lost?). In 2022, they were second in games lost, trailing only the Reds.

    On balance, bunting with two outs and down a run isn't a great move. Even if successful, the score is tied and the team would have been faced with a lefty-lefty matchup or totally depleting the bench in the fourth inning.

    Yeah, with these small sample sizes, I'd guess I'd defer to the staff as to who can do what. I didn't see the Easter Sunday game, but that Martin went to center today probably means the staff trusts him in center no matter what happened that day. Margot has been unimpressive so far, but he's been a pretty good player for seven years. I don't agree with every evaluation and managerial decision, but Baldelli and the coaching staff see them a lot more than any of us do. I do think "the poorly constructed roster" could be fixed by trust in one more lefty bat. Yeah, Kirilloff's not going to hit .400, but if only two guys are platooned, there's an extra guy for a late-inning move, be it a pinch runner or pinch hitting or defensive replacement.

    He was going to be a defensive replacement anyway. No problem with the better base runner pinch running there.

    44 Ks in 45 innings of hitting, not exactly Arraez like strikeout numbers, but an improvement. They have struck out 43 batters in 43 innings of pitching. The Twins have been outhomered substantially so far this year. Given the composition of the roster, they need to hit homers to win games.
