  1. Ben Rortvedt is joining Goodrum in Tampa. He was traded by the Yankees in a three-team deal with the Rays and the Marlins. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/marlins-trade-jon-berti-yankees.html
  2. Agree, but expectations of any pitcher to be a ++starter are probably inflated. Where would Graterol rank in the current Twins' bullpen? Certainly behind Durán, would he be ahead of Stewart or Jax? Honestly a tough call. I don't know if I'd trade him straight up for Jax, because Jax seems to be a rare one with durability (quickly looking for some wood to knock on) as well as good stuff.
  3. I think Gaetti was more of a power guy than Lee will be. Gaetti only played 37 innings at shortstop in his career, so I don't think of him as more than an emergency guy there.
  4. Off the top of my head, Roy Smalley works as a comp. Defensively stretched a bit at short, but compensate for lack of foot speed by having a strong arm and good baseball IQ. Switch hitter with good bat-to-ball skills.
  5. Niko does go to the Rays. No mention of compensation to the Twins, so I would guess the Rays assumed his contract. Best wishes to him. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/rays-to-acquire-niko-goodrum-select-him-to-40-man-roster.html
  6. With 100% of the disabling injuries suffered by pitchers and all but one of those injuries to bullpen candidates, the bullpen isn't what most imagined when the Twins open in Kansas City. If they hadn't added Jackson and Okert late, they would be really short. As it is, what was regarded as a strength is having the depth checked immediately as the season opens.
  7. From the mlbtraderumors.com article, the player is offered to all 29 teams and if any are interested that player is traded to them. Going from the Coulombe experience last year, the Orioles were willing to assume Coulombe's contract, but gave the Twins nothing. That would seem to be a standard for such a deal, especially if the player is to get more than the minimum if they are in the major leagues. If more than one team would be willing to assume Goodrum's contract, perhaps the Twins could get $$$ or some type of prospect in return.
  8. The Twins reassigned Niko Goodrum to St. Paul today. Because he has an "assignment clause" in his minor league contract, he has the opportunity to go to another team if they offer him a major league roster spot. This is the same clause that allowed Danny Coulombe to get a major league job with Baltimore and flourish. MLB Trade Rumors is reporting that the Rays have interest in adding Goodrum. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/rays-interested-in-niko-goodrum.html
  9. Staumont pitched after his slip, correct? If he doesn’t go on the IL, Sands could be optioned, keeping Duarte on the roster, perhaps. Also, if Duarte stays, the team would have to make a 40-man move. DeSclafani or Weiss could go on the 60-day list or someone could be DFAd. Edit to add: Duarte does have an option remaining, so he can be moved fairly freely between St. Paul and the major league team.
  10. This may open up an early opportunity for a non-roster guy. Duarte has been mentioned quite often. Brigham put up a nice line in today's finale. He went 2 innings with one hit and five Ks.
  11. Derek Law, former Sire of Fort Myers, has made the Nationals. He signed a minor league deal with them in the off season. I don't know if it was noted here, but Eddie Rosario's contract was selected by the Nationals, as well.
  12. Blewett didn’t blow it!
  13. Both teams pulling their starters early. Nobody get hurt and Louie goes 5 or 6 and Rocco will be happy.
  14. I hope the team is ready for the regular season, that is what spring training is for. The results have been downright ugly, but all will be forgotten if they get off to a fast start in the regular season........Lets go!
  15. I haven't been to Fort Myers since 2020, when my visit was shortened by the pandemic, but I hope to return next year. I want to second everything Brian has said. It's a great experience and the exhibition games are probably the least interesting part of it. I have fond memories of sitting next to Michael Tonkin (the day after he was sent to the minors) and close to an injured Miguel Sanó, having a great time with other Spanish-speaking minor leaguers. I stood adjacent to Terry Ryan, answering questions from fans, while trying to watch the action of two minor league games at once. My brother and I met Niko Goodrum's dad (at the time hoping Niko would get sufficient playing time at either AA or AAA) I got an autograph from Brian Dozier, the year he converted to second base. In 2020, I went to the complex only to find it almost empty. I walked to the park looking for sign and saw an elderly man walking back to his car. It was Tony-O and I have a selfie with him from the day that baseball was suspended. I hope the Twins keep things as they are in Fort Myers. It is a great experience not to be missed by Twins fans!
  16. Rortvedt is out of options. I doubt he makes it to AAA with the Yankees.
  17. Jax and Jeffers had their rookie seasons in 2021, they are hardly "sophomores". Given the injuries to the bullpen, I think Jax may be among the most important players for the Twins, especially in April.
  18. Chavez signed a minor league deal with Atlanta. For the Twins and their fans, this story is over. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/braves-sign-jesse-chavez-minors.html
  19. All three look the part of being on the rise. If two of the three are better than they were last year (in a full season), it bodes very well for the 2024 Twins.
  20. Jake Cave traded to the Rockies. He'll probably get a pretty good chance to play in a great hitting environment, but winning is probably off the table. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2024/03/rockies-to-acquire-jake-cave.html
  21. He caught a line drive comebacker, which deflected off his pitching hand (fingertips). He threw one or two pitches after that, then was removed from the game.
  22. I saw somewhere that Alcalá avoided serious injury, but they gave no further information. He's listed as day-to-day on ESPN's injury report.
  23. Last season, Santana hit right handed pitching at exactly MLB average (100 OPS+). He's not helpless against right handers, but he isn't an asset (according to last year) and his platoon splits are far less pronounced than the three lefties (Kirilloff, Wallner, Julien) last year. A lot of good switch hitters have their platoon split vary from year to year, others are always better on one side. Polanco had been consistently better against RH pitching until last year, when in a half season, he put up his best OPS+ versus lefties. Until proven otherwise, I would expect Lee to be marginally better against righties, but not a true platoon candidate.
  24. Lee started at least two games at third base this spring.I believe that if Lewis had an IL injury, Lee would be promoted to take his place. He also played a few games at third in the minors last year. AFAIK he hasn't played second base in a professional ball game.
