    In a lot of ways the managing skills and general high level of respect for Joe Maddon reminds me of another long-time professional: the late Gene Mauch. Just remember Mauch wasn't able to work miracles for the Twins. It still comes down to who you can put on the field.

    I'm guessing if you gene-sequenced Molitor and Gardy they'd be pretty much the same guy. Of course, if you gene-sequenced Chief and I, we'd also be pretty much the same guy. Having said that, I bet all four of us would manage the Twins differently. And that we all would most likely have lost 90+ games the last four years, all other things being equal.

    I now think it will be Molitor for two or three seasons while Mientkiewicz goes to Charlotte for more seasoning, and succeeds him. I don't think Jake Mauer will really be an option until Joe retires, at which point he becomes Jake's hitting coach. Just my feeling...
