  1. Only 15 responses, counting this one? Your troll-fu is weak, grasshopper.
  2. Forget Buxton. I need a refresher on how a 97-year old man publishes anything at all. My dad's 94, and not really capable of gainful employment anymore.
  3. Who steals my purse steals trash; 'tis something, nothing; 'Twas mine, 'tis his, and has been slave to thousands; But he that filches from me my paperback bathroom compendium of Dad jokes Makes me poor indeed.
  4. That's some fine calculatin' work there, Lou. http://pds.exblog.jp/pds/1/201002/23/18/c0083518_104119.jpg
  5. "Awright, who burnt the cheese?"
  6. Some of these posts are juuuuust a bit outside the ground rules you laid out.
  7. Even if I didn't have tickets, I would stay home too.

  9. It's Garlic Day.
  10. My mother taught me that if I can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all. Well, I haven't found much to say here about Ben's season yet. But it's time for an update, regardless. Through Cedar Rapids's first 13 games, Ben has started in 8 of them (1 DHing), and in 32 plate appearances he is batting a meager .125 with no walks but one double. On a positive note, he has had base hits in each of his last two games - there, a budding hitting streak, that's something nice. And he's thrown out 2 of 5 base stealers for 40% - also nice. See, Mom, I tried. I'm looking forward to having better things to say at his next report.
  11. People want counting stats they can see with the aid of a scoresheet at most, in preference to most rate stats more complex than BA and ERA. Win Probability Added is more in the latter part of the spectrum. I do like WPA though, as it is a decent stab at combining performance with leverage.
  12. Knoflook con aglio, in a red chesnok sauce. Yum.
  13. Lefty on the mound, I presume? The choices are few, with this gargantuan bullpen.
  14. Brexit and bo'rexit talk get me confused.
  15. There's been a general uptick in questioning of one another's motives recently. I'd like to ask everyone to dial that aspect back, even if intended humorously.
  16. Let's keep the overly personal gibes to a minimum, please.
  17. It's a tough park to hit a home run in. The ball really sails out.
  18. Don't forget thirsty. I took a look at their wine selection.
  19. Hoping for a mashup of Guy Nauer* and Joe Moir** later in the thread. * This didn't come out as good as I hoped but I'm going to stop tinkering with it and just post it. ** Ditto
  20. And Rowson is new to the organization, so he may not have felt yet that it was time to assert himself about something. And Torii is a near HOFer so one should be at least courteously deferential. And... and... and... I guess I'm just saying it might be time for Rowson to make that assertion, that Buxton should not receive any more advice without his batting coach being within earshot of the conversation. "Don't go around me, work with me on our prize pupil. It's my job that's on the line too."
  21. If only it were possible for the team to install someone to act as the focal point and clearinghouse for all these helpful suggestions. http://www.readingeagle.com/storyimage/RE/20170303/AP/303039476/EP/1/1/EP-303039476.jpg/ / Ninja'd, while spending time searching for "le gif juste".
  22. Yogi Berra, if he were still alive, would have some advice about that: Don't. But seriously, I can't decide if Buxton is thinking too much or too little. It's easy to lean toward the former. He could just pick a different game plan each game, to keep the opposing pitcher from knowing for sure how to pitch to him. E.g. an extreme closed stance to pounce on outside pitches, and let any inside ones go for today. Tomorrow, a crouch for low pitches. Whatever. Just think once, before the game, and be done with it - have some fun, as the cliche goes. Really give the talking heads something to talk about. After a few days, go back to a consistent stance.
  23. A promising 20-year old low-A starting pitching prospect from some other team's system? Dream on.
  24. A .700 BABIP. No, not really.
