  1. Instead, a confidence shattering swing at that drop-pitch on 0-1. He managed to guess the 0-2 offering would be a ball, but knew he was a dead duck and made it official on the next curve. Ugh.
  2. I imagine there is. I wish I knew the fine points of playing third base, and the pivot. Something separate was probably wrong with each, on that play.
  3. It just felt slow-developing on both ends. Sano's got a good arm, but getting into position to throw was lengthy. Dozier likewise wasn't super speedy on the pivot, somehow. I was expecting more urgency to each throw.
  4. You ninja'd me. The rimshot still applies.
  5. You will probably get more out of the broadcast that way. Even if you don't speak a word of Spanish.
  6. One weak spot in Sano's game continues to be not checking his swing in time to avoid the strike being called at first base.
  7. The bar has been set high for the rest of this thread, regarding first-car stories.
  8. This seems like exactly the wrong adjective.
  9. My first car was a '64 Rambler American. (Lord, I begged my parents to find something, anything, just a tiny bit cooler.) What was your mode of suffering? Pretty much this color, too - they wanted to keep me humble, evidently.
  10. My brother owned a Vega. I think there is still a mark on the pavement in front of the house he was living in, from the pool of molten aluminum that one day in '77 ...
  11. The Aztek (sic) was ugly as sin but had some practicality. The Sunfire was basically an FU from GM to the buying public for preferring inexpensive cars from Asia. "You say you want cheap? Ohhhh, we'll show you cheap." It was the Chevy Cavalier, minus the pizzazz. / edit - BTW, I always loved Bruce McCall's National Lampoon parodies of truly terrible cars and the marketing that sold them. Here is an ad for the 1958 Bulgemobile Firewood model.
  12. After a slow start, Byron Buxton's OPS has been .523 since April 13. He's had a BABIP of .286 during that time, showing what he can accomplish when the luck is more normal. http://i1.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/242/631/382.gif
  13. Gordon has the potential to surpass the "Greg Gagne Line", which would mean being more than sufficient for a WS winning team to hold onto (shifting to 2B if need be). Vielma worries me that he'll be more like Chico Escuela with the bat, which would lead to some kind of career given his glove but not be a championship mainstay. I'm rooting for him, though; hitting well enough to play every day at SS would be awesome for the defense.
  14. I want to get even with General Motors for ever producing this terrible car. Oops. Never mind. I was thinking of the Sunfire.
  15. Sometimes my dyslexia kicks in. I'm gonna have to plead the fifth on this one.
  16. Tonight Felix Jorge put up good numbers in a big 10-1 win for Chattanooga. He turned Jacksonville into shrimp cocktail, limiting the Marlins farm club to a single run in his 5.2 innings of work, on 3 hits and 3 walks, notching 4 strikeouts. He didn't allow a baserunner until the fourth inning, and 59 of his total 94 pitches were for strikes. The game lowered his season ERA to a very good 2.79. And he earned honors as Twins Daily Minor League Pitcher of the Day!
  17. Yeah, but if I had typed "fair OR square", Chief would have just responded, "yes".
  18. They didn't back in. They earned it fair and square.
  19. I will change the thread title to reflect this. He's yours, ShouldCoulda. (No backsies. )
