  1. He cleared waivers, which I think are good for the rest of the season. He could be added to the 40-man anytime it's convenient, and then removed if they want to send him back down again. I think.
  2. I realize this is pedantic (with apologies to ScooterDance), but I still feel compelled to add: this says it backwards. If you believe Stewart has a X% chance at being an impact player, you should look at those who somewhat followed Stewart's career path, and see what percent of those became impact players. There are many other ways to be an impact player, but they are not relevant to this player. Your last sentence actually follows this line of reasoning, so maybe you just misstated what you meant. Admittedly, choosing either direction as the starting point works about the same, if the percentage X is close to 0. For example searching for black major leaguers prior to Jackie Robinson. Again, sorry.
  3. After two clean outings, Austin gave up a run when he came in to work the eighth inning on July 11 against the GCL Orioles, surrendering his first two hizzles of the season along with a couple of base on bizzles. To his credit, only the one run scored, even with all that traffic on the basepaths, and one of those singles was of the infield-variety. He walked the tightrope and didn't lose his nerve, and every pitcher will have games where the hits fall in, so it was good to get this under his belt and begin to see what he's made of.
  4. Crowhops are hair-pullingly maddening but fixable. Arm strength can be more of a limiting factor but can often be improved. It's the elite quick-twitch reflexes and instant acceleration toward the ball that pretty much either is there or it isn't. If he's not getting to balls, that's a bad sign.
  5. Prepare to be surprised.
  6. I'm already embarrassed enough about the ridiculous amount of time I play this game*, so I would never compound the problem by entering an online league. * Currently in remission, and have been clean for approximately 5 weeks. One Day At A Time!
  7. "What have you done for me lately" was a thing long before the intrawebs and teevee. It goes back at least to Bennett Cerf, who in 1943 probably was retelling an old joke. Nothing new under the sun.

  9. Not too shaggy, i.e. exactly shaggy enough: http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/images/players/head_shot/608638.jpg
  10. I imagine the Twins brass are happy with his progress but would like to see him continue to develop and demonstrate consistency plus a bit more dominance at AAA. Since he's not on the 40-man, but (I think) needs to be added in order to avoid the Rule-5 draft this winter, the timing of an eventual callup will depend on factors outside his control. Perhaps the trading deadline will clarify things. If not, I hope I'm not jinxing my guy if I foresee a September callup given his current trajectory.
  11. Saturday night, July 8, Aaron avenged a couple of prior losses to Syracuse by throttling the Chiefs, pitching shutout ball on seven hits and no walks through seven and two-thirds innings. He began the game in altudinous fashion, striking out the first two batters he faced. He also struck out the leadoff batter in the second. Oddly enough, it was the final K he would register that night. He pitched in trouble in the seventh and eighth, and even though he negated one runner in the eighth with a double-play grounder, the single that followed brought on Jake Reed who secured the 2-0 victory. The game brought Aaron's season ERA to 3.75 and his win-loss record to 9-4 in this, his 16th start. In the process, he earned honors as TD's minor league Pitcher of the Day.
  12. Austin's second opportunity came against the GCL Red Sox on July 8, and he did not fizzle. He set the batters down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh inning, and when allowed to come out again for the eighth he repeated the feat, this time with a strikeout. All five of the balls put in play were grounders, and (except for the first batter faced) it was against the top of the lineup.
  13. I didn't get back online until now but I made the change. I hope Brock will take a look into whether that part of the profile should be made editable.
  14. You can modify Location and Occupation, but not Biography which comes between them? Odd. Moderators see the UI slightly differently than regular members so I can't guess what's wrong. PM me with the text you would like entered and I'll do it. Also include Brock Beauchamp in that PM, so that he can look into the cause of your difficulty.
  15. On the page where you are seeing the bio, there should be a black button near the top right that says "Edit my Profile". Do you not have that?
  16. Because I got outbid by another moderator. Nah, but seriously, there was no thought of deleting your post, but on further thought it was decided posts about a player on a minor league contract belong in here, as Goulik inferred. Parker's article about the signing is in here too; it's not a demotion or punishment or anything.
  17. Sooo... last night we had Gimenez playing when a righty was pitching, today we have Castro catching with a lefty on the mound. Strategery?
  18. It might take someone living in the Northeast to get that'un right away.
  19. That's his season average, but for the past six weeks or so Robbie has been scuffling at the plate and is getting on base much less often - .319 OBP since May 30 - and on top of that with lower BA and power numbers than before - adding to an OPS of .626 in that span. Currently he's not hitting well enough to DH, and doesn't field well enough to support his batting numbers. Robbie needs to turn things around soon or Granite stands next in line to take over all of his playing time, the latter having a more traditional skill set for fourth outfielder.
  20. I hope you and fellow posters can get this out of your systems right away, because the moderators are likely going to stop this up.
  21. No can do. Best I can offer is to delete it. Not right away though - the Delete button will take me literally tens of seconds to operate.
  22. Disappointing. Can I just leave it at that?
  23. I had a heart attack and died from each of Nik Turley's starts. Fortunately I got better.
