  1. Austin Bizzle http://www.bamastatesports.com/images/2016/2/10//bizzle_austin_011416.JPG Born: March 16, 1995 (age 22 this season) High School: Mosley HS, Lynn Haven, FL College: Wallace Community College, Gulf Coast State CC, Alabama State Signed via the amateur draft in 2017, fortieth round (1186th overall) Height: 6' 1" Weight: 205 Position: Pitcher Throws: Right Bats: Right Pitching arsenal: TBD Stats at baseball-reference.com Austin Bizzle (no middle name that I could find) was the final pick by the Twins in the 2017 draft. He finished his college career at Alabama State after beginning at Wallace Community College in Dothan, Ala, and then Gulf Coast State Community College near his home town in the Florida panhandle. He has a variety of experience (and geographical broadening, I imagine) beyond that, via the Olean Oilers in the New York Collegiate Baseball League in 2014-2016 as well. Fun story on the trials and tribulations of piecing together a NYCBL championship postseason here. (That's not mom and dad with their kids - it's the Olean team owners and two of their players, including Austin.) As a college senior Austin racked up a 1.92 ERA across 61 mostly-relief appearances. He struck out 63 while walking only 17. Prior to this year, he was named the 2015 Florida JUCO Reliever of the Year. As a high-schooler, he tossed a no-hitter in his team's state semi-finals. Austin will begin his pro career in Ft Myers, toiling in the bullpen for the GCL Twins. Here's rooting for an underdog 40th-rounder to succeed - fo' shizzle! 2. Hey! That's my Adopt-A-Prospect. Don't be makin' fun of his name, now.
  3. Aaron Slegers got the 4-2 win in an abbreviated start at the Buffalo Bisons on Monday, June 26. The seven-inning game was part of a AAA double-header, which Rochester swept, so perhaps a desire to get two relievers into the game factored into the choice to lift the starter after only 86 pitches and five innings. It was a decent game for the righty, though not the loftiest of his season. He gave up seven hits and two walks, to go with four strikeouts. Four of the base hits were doubles. Buffalo got two-out tallies in each of the second and third innings - one came on a pair of doubles (which sandwiched a balk that turned out not to be instrumental), the other on a run-scoring single after a double and a wild pitch. Aaron did not manage to achieve a 1-2-3 inning during the game. His W-L is now 7-4, and his ERA continues to hover just above 4.
  4. None of these is probable but rain seems the likeliest among the choices listed.
  5. I predict a different outcome tomorrow.
  6. If Rosario is receptive to subtle signals from his manager, perhaps he will notice that batting behind Gimenez isn't exactly a compliment.
  7. Ugh, the TIBN feed is running a batter behind the game. At least Gameday is keeping up, but that calls for constantly hitting refresh. / First World Problems.

  9. I thought it was "that's what SHE said".
  10. On public forums/social media, it's not really correct grammar unless you complete the sentence: your a idot.
  11. We'll try to be more circumspect here. / I suddenly wonder if a mohel has to answer to a circumspector.
  12. Houw dou you decide when tou inflict a silent 'u' and when nout tou? The wourd 'color' has twou 'o's and you put graffiti oun ounly oune of them.
  13. Einstein was supposed to be all smart and stuff, but he got I-before-E wrong, twice and in the same word.
  14. Felix Jorge's 14th start of the season was a qualified success, as he scattered an unsightly 11 hits across seven and two-thirds innings to limit the visiting Blue Meanies Wahoos to two runs in an 3-2 victory, Saturday night June 24. Actually he had a shutout going until the 8th, when Pepsi-Cola Pensacola finally broke through with a two-out, two-run double by Gavin LaValley, the only extra-base hit he surrendered. Randy Rosario came in and induced a strikeout to end that rally. Felix garnered 7 strikeouts of his own with no walks, and even picked off a runner at first base. He nudged his ERA downward to 3.26. He was not the pitcher of record, however, as the Lookouts did not score until the bottom of the ninth. The game ended anti-climactically when Levi Michael was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and two runs already in. With the win, Chattanooga brought their season log to 7-0 against this otherwise strong opponent, a streak which they extended with a double-header win by identical 6-0 scores on Sunday.
  15. I hope it's not a jinx to report that 1-for 4 and 2-for-4 games on June 24-25 have brought Ben Rortvedt's batting average up to .201. While the seasonal OPS of .571 is nothing to write home about, things are moving in the right direction for him at the plate and it is reasonable to anticipate a decent batting line by season's end. Nothing in baseball is a given, however.
  16. "Kyle Gibson was the Twin's 5th starter in the rotation to attend an Ace of Base concert and he really enjoyed it."
  17. You left out Belisle. Some pitchers are accorded the privilege of having a "personal catcher". Gibby's was stationed in left field.
  18. They weren't too quick to catch on, then, since the Bums played their first regular-season game in the Coliseum on April 18, 1958.
  19. Try reaching out to him through Facebook. You might get lucky and score an interview, even.
  20. Catchy, but my money is on "Hildy" being what sticks.
  21. Middle name Alejandro. My work here is done.
