  1. Sano made a very nice diving stop of a sharp grounder, earlier. But popups remain one of the weak spots in his game.
  2. You know how Dozier would have looked in a Warner Brothers cartoon, once he took that first step to chase the runner from first? http://exiledonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/elmer-fudd21.gif
  3. Let's get some more offense going, now that Escobar has started us.
  4. Sometimes the stolen base is off the catcher, oftentimes it's off the pitcher. On this one, it was off the second baseman.
  5. The chief cause of Little Leaguers?
  6. A few blessed minutes of silence during the power outage. Too bad it took the video feed with it.,
  7. I'd settle for Hudson. That would be a fair ball.
  8. Buxton preserves his .200+ BA for another day!
  9. The guy has all the tools necessary to be a good third baseman.
  10. Yeah, once he seemed to have a bead on it I would have bet money on him hauling it in.
  11. Didn't Aston Villa used to be led by someone considered the most hated man in the sport?
  12. Considering that 40th-rounder Austin Bizzle has appeared in his first game, it seems to me that the chart could be updated to reflect his being signed rather than just agreed. I think we might all be curious to see what the final chart of signings looks like.
  13. I omitted mention of the wild pitch at about the 1:08 mark in the above video, which allowed the two baserunners to move up (but not score), but from the video it looks as if it could just as easily have been called a passed ball - like it glizzled off the catcher's glove right at the dirt. (Gotta stick up for my A-A-P guy. )
  14. In the area on the right where you see a turtle swimming, there was earlier a Whirlpool appliances ad that began running with sound without my having run a cursor over it since the window wasn't currently open.
  15. Austin saw his first professional action on Tuesday July 4, and he sizzled in relief. Brought in with one out in the eighth after a four-run uprising by the visiting GCL Rays, he slammed the door with two strikeouts.
  16. Aaron's game against Lehigh Valley on July 3 was his fifth straight "decent" start - neither sky-high nor low-down, simply the kind of start that gives your team a chance to win. Rochester did not need even this level of quality, as they bopped the opponents for 12 runs of their own. The Iron Pigs garnered 3 runs on 7 hits and a couple of walks in 6.2 innings against Slegers. Two of their hits were of the extra-base variety, and he got 6 strikeouts off of them. The relief work from Rucinski and Curtiss was solid, and the game was never in much doubt after the fifth inning. Aaron is tied for the league lead in wins with eight.
  17. I was away for the holiday, and thus basically missed the excitement of Felix Jorge's major league debut, a 10-5 win over the Royals on July 1. The game was reported elsewhere, in the TD daily recap, of course. He had a good game, but was evidently on a short leash, and was pulled after giving up a leadoff single in the bottom of the sixth, with a 7-2 lead. The relief corps allowed that runner to score, marring his final line a little. Still, 3 earned runs in 5+ innings, on 7 hits and a walk, is a pretty nice introduction for a guy not highly ranked by national pundits. (Your Truly has of course always thought he could make it.) With regard to strikeouts, the pundits can still say I Told You So, as Felix notched only 2 in his evening's work, and the two-run homer by Hosmer in the first inning surely was an unwelcome wakeup call to the young pitcher. But he threw strikes, and settle down after the homer, and I'm sure the manager and front office were pleased by the emergency callup's outing.
  18. Whew! For a moment there I thought I had jinxed my lad - he went ofer on June 26 to drop his BA below .200 again. But a pair of two-hit games on the 28th and 29th has his average up to a robust .209. Not good unless you remember the circumstances in the first month.
  19. It has been reported in various posts on TD that Felix Jorge is being called up to the big club for a Saturday start. He's already on the 40-man, and the circumstance allows a 26th man for the occasion, so no corresponding roster move is called for, and Jorge will presumably be returned to Chatanooga after the game unless he pitches a no-hitter* or something. * I know, I know, I shouldn't jinx my own player.
  20. I remember at age 24 thinking that if I could drive a stake in the ground and keep my age there, I'd do it. But as for the apparent intent of the original question, I have a hard time picking a best year. My life has been pretty charmed. Either that or I have low expectations.
  21. What time does Gimenez start warming up the ol' soupbone for an 8th or 9th inning appearance?
  22. The moderation team thanks you.
  23. Pair-a-bulls: Ferdinand and Elmer.
