  1. "You might want to check the hermetic seal on that mayonnaise jar."
  2. Fails to get too broken up about it: http://media.cleveland.com/startingblocks/photo/9219268-large.jpg
  3. It's not, and I am done repeating myself.
  4. Basically it's just a courtesy signal to other old people that I am old.
  5. It's not a flaw. It reflects an emerging consensus on what's important, with the other factors favored by one analyst or another affecting the margins.
  6. His AAA numbers were built on a rate of batted balls being caught that can't be expected to keep going. His major league start went the opposite direction and that's not sustainable either. He's somewhere in the middle. AAA filler.
  7. I'm not quite sure what you're saying, but Slegers is on the 40 man already - by virtue of being called up and then not DFA'ed (like they did with Melville). There could be arms added to the 25-man before he gets called up again. But after Sept 1 the 25-man is no longer an constraint. Your take is an interesting one, namely that his potential is so poor that they won't give him the time of day going forward. But I don't see an obstacle to their adding him for the final month, and I can't see why they wouldn't. Wait and see - won't be long now.
  8. Melville has started 20 games this season. They all count, and taken together they give a pretty good picture of his capabilities at this point in time. In particular he's been very average in 10 starts at AAA. Very average does not project well for major league performance. The average 27-year old in AAA can't play in the majors except for short stretches, because, well, the team wouldn't have him at AAA. Exceptions exist; nothing about Melville suggested to me he is one. I didn't say anything about Gonsalves. I responded to a comment about the rationale for signing Melville not being the same as a reason to bring him up, even for a spot start. That doesn't mean I thought it was the end of the world, merely a waste of a start - it was indeed a short stretch.
  9. Two separate concepts there. He's a lead-pipe cinch to be back at some point in September, the exact return date dependent on how the FO decides to handle AAA playoffs. Whether or not he starts any games, the poster's point is that come September the Twins will be well stocked with starting candidates so Melville will not be missed.
  10. This was the White Sox. He's not the only guy they've made look like Smokey Joe Williams this season.
  11. He misspoke. Follow-on models to cyborgs like Trout should be referenced as Version 2.0 or similar.
  12. That was a reasonable rationale for signing him to a minor league contract. His 2017 AAA numbers (beyond ERA) do not support the idea that he can contribute at the major league level beyond replacement-level value, so why bother if that's the upside?
  13. Please, you're being overly dramatic. I prefer to think of these as #falsehoods.
  14. Come for the blowouts. Stay for the flying lead. I should trademark that.
  15. Mod note: Guys. LOL is OK if you're laughing with someone, at their joke for example - not if you're laughing at the person. And don't make it personal in response. There's been too much of this in general on the site lately, so let's please dial it back, everyone.
  16. Some of which were of the seeing-eye variety. It was hardly a perfectly pitched game. And the Sox aren't very good this year; maybe some of the swinging strikes against the curve would have been let go by another team. Still, bases loaded with no one out, and Gibby didn't rattle. I'm not one of those who think his problems are mental. My complaint against him is one and only: major league stuff not matched by major league command.
  17. Sorry, I didn't see it at first. It was momentarily lost among all the Likes.
  18. Just trying to maintain some semblance of decorum here. *snicker*
  19. Yeah, no kidding. You're on your own, buddy.
  20. Mod note: Keep Colon out of the Bummer jokes
  21. Mod note: It's the age-old problem, directed to the membership in general and specifically to just the two of you, to please not make it reflexively be about other posters, and don't try to mind-read or psychoanalyze. All that mocking does is set up an argumentative atmosphere, whether intended humorously or not. Other posters are allowed to have an opinion different from your own, without it being "angst" or a case of group-think on their misguided part.
  22. Verily.
