  1. Sorry, no. The Confederacy came into being in response to a perceived crisis in maintaining slavery. The southern antebellum before that, that people harken to as a genteel "way of life," was made possible on the backs of slaves. Looking to glorify either of these amounts to glorifying slavery. Period.
  2. http://www.twincities.com/2017/08/10/twins-catching-prospect-ben-rortvedt-impressing-big-league-coach/ Sportswriter Mike Berardino offers these quotes about Ben Rortvedt from Twins coach Jeff Smith: “He receives the ball well; he’s got real soft hands. He gives a good target and has made huge strides in his game calling and his ability to work with his pitching coach and his pitchers. Ben can really throw, too. ... Love the fire. It’s not a bad fire. It’s a competitive fire. He’s very competitive on both sides of the plate.”
  3. I worry that we will look back and decide Colon's 5-inning 3-run effort was the best in this series.
  4. I had two of these, so, may as well use them.
  5. BTW, Pence shaking his head no was just for the pun, not a prognostication that turned out to be true.
  6. So, the chicken goes into tupperware, to be served another night, and a bowl of Honey Nut Cheerios for dinner instead?
  7. The timing of the discussion was hardly coincidental, although the immediacy of the longball perhaps was.
  8. Used to be a recipe for a fastball buzzed under somebody's chin. That remedy is frowned on nowadays. But in any case, if the baserunner can see the catcher, the catcher can see the baserunner; you can't get away with signaling for long
  9. Nice routine night at the office for Buxton.
  10. Let me direct your attention to Sano's arm. Again.
  11. Have I mentioned Polanco's arm?
  12. He keeps throwing it the same way.
  13. Did I mention that Polanco's arm is marginal?
  14. Bartolo "Big Sexy Paddle" Colon
  15. I've gotten accustomed to Polano at short, but that long throw by Sano serves to remind me what an arm can actually be. What a straight and true throw he usually gives Mauer.
  16. I hope the Twins survive ChiTown's jinx.
  17. He was NEVER little. Just less Big.
  18. There is the risk that the discussion will not finish in polynomial time and we'll miss the game.
