  1. Two of the three losses so far this season were very winnable games. OTOH they pulled out a couple of wins that probably should have been losses, so I'm not questioning anyone's heart or anything. I'm just not yet a big believer in this offense.
  2. I did not want to say this right away, lest I unleash another jinx, but on a day where the plate umpire's strike zone is as wide as the Schuylkill River, Ryne Harper seems like a good choice to come in. His MLB career will be defined more than most by what he can do when the ump isn't giving him his pitch - but today, he should be an automatic participant.
  3. Difficult to fathom how she could part ways with this reliable source of humor.
  4. No disagreement there. I saw Jose shake off Jason at least once in order to throw another curve. If Castro is this great pitcher-whisperer asset behind the plate I wanna see his batterymates go along with his recommendations a little more.
  5. No, my bad. I jinxed him. I'll never use that phrase about his curve again. I thought it was going to be a pop out. Really carried.
  6. He should. He has a lot more command of that pitch than most, for instance Tyler Duffey. Jose's curve isn't just for show, it's a deadly out pitch.
  7. We went within the course of a few posts from taxing the 1%, to talking about people nearer the middle making decisions. Doesn't this suggest the tax rate is currently too flat, and not too progressive? Somehow the very rich have succeeded in convincing the vast middle that their problems are just like yours and mine.
  8. Yes, although it is out of date. There was a documentary made some years ago concerning the next stage, which I believe is our Willians's lineage. You may remember seeing footage of him flying around the bases that one time last year.
  9. A wahoo is a fish, related to mackerels. The team chose blue for local reasons. The Pensacola Bay Area is the official home of the Blue Angels.
  10. I think it was stated elsewhere that everyone on the 40-man sitting in Rochester was ineligible to be brought up because it hadn't been 10 days. Thus someone else needed to be added, *if* they were going to do it the day they did.
  11. Let's see if there is sufficient interest. I added a poll to the top of this thread.
  12. I think DeJong has a minor league option remaining. He can be sent to Rochester without necessarily removing him from the 40-man and exposing him to waiver claims.
  13. That's the core of the argument I would give to my CEO in explaining the rationale to eat some/all of the remaining contract. "We paid $24M to cover the gaping hole in our lineup at catcher, giving us 3 years to develop someone younger. I thought we could do it in 2, but wanted some cushion. We've done that now." I still expect most CEOs to turn thumbs down until later in the season. At least I tried.
  14. Showed a little courage on defense today, likewise.
  15. Depends on what you mean by "dump". Would you hold out for a trade where the new team absorbed the remainder of his $8M contract, regardless of the return of players? (Similarly, you could DFA and put him on waivers, and see if someone takes him off your hands.) Or, are you willing to eat some of the remaining contract? Or, even just release him and leave his money on the books? Not to overplay the Pohlads Are Teh Cheap theme, but remember who's signing the checks. You may burn up some goodwill with your bosses, depending on your choice. My own view is that it's too soon to cut ties, at that cost, and also that no other team will take his contract. So now what?
  16. Explains why it was so easy getting a front-pew seat at church, and also why they skipped the sermon.
  17. Quite the novelty, having a Spanish-speaking player on our team. (I've gone to that well myself plenty of times.)
  18. Here's a reply now. Enjoy!
  19. Ladies and gentlemen, Chicken Dinner is served!
  20. But the guy they wanted to send down is out of minor league options. They decided to bite the bullet.
  21. You can tell your grandkids - you were watching when Willians Astudillo drew a walk on April 6, 2019 AD.
  22. Three Run Jack Rosario!!!!
  23. He and I go way back. I'm his good luck charm - the game I saw him in the Arizona Fall League, he got winged by a batted ball and didn't play the rest of that season. I'm sure he was pleased to know I was posting today.
  24. Our 1Bman >> their 1Bman on foul pops.
