  1. Would a job searcher want to use multiple ones of these job boards, and use your app as a front end to avoid repeating the same info into slightly varying formats required at the site?
  2. We're sure giving you lots of constructive help, aren't we... It's been so long since I've been in the job market that I've forgotten whether the post office will deliver my job application across the country if I don't tape on the extra penny for airmail. My first thought, though, is to wonder how you plan to differentiate your app from the ones that are already out there - the barest of web searches turned up reviews of six from companies with names that I at least recognize. I assume you've looked closely at several.
  3. Cron's on a one-year contract. C.J. "Rented Mule" Cron?
  4. I assume this number includes cases like where a called strike ends an 8-3 game. I'd be surprised if 55 outcomes were materially affected - that would be something like 4 bogus outcomes per team in the season.
  5. How much does your site pay its moderators? I've been thinking about a lateral move for some time now.
  6. Kluber comes to mind. Dickey too. Randy Johnson probably meets your criteria.
  7. Carnac the Magnificent: Great intro. Ed McMahon: Thank you, your Sageness. I described only the merest shadow of your true greatness. Carnac: No, dummy. That's the answer to the question inside this envelope. Ed: Oh. I thought you had enjoyed your stage introduction. I misunderstood. Carnac: Misunderstood? I can imagine that you were a misunderstood child. Ed: In some ways, I suppose. Carnac: Also a misunderstood adult, and a misunderstood magazine shill. Ed: Now that seems hurtful. Carnac: The fleas of a thousand camels in your tightie whities would also be hurtful. Ed: They would indeed. I hope that is not a curse you are bestowing. Carnac: I'm on the fence. Ed: This also sounds painful. Carnac: Watch it. Ed: In any case, perhaps we should proceed with the actual business at hand. Carnac: Magazine sales? Ed: No sir. Would you be so kind as to open the hermetically sealed envelope? Carnac: (rips envelope, blows into it, removes card) What is "Catherine The"?
  8. I think we saw Cron get thrown out at home during spring training. At least, I wasn't surprised when I looked at the play-by-play this morning and saw how the game ended. He's genuinely slow. And you still have to send him. Bad luck that the runner we would have preferred for the attempt had been inserted as pinch runner for Cruz and then got erased by the fielder's choice. Although perhaps the pinch runner, Schoop, was more skillful than Cruz could have been at avoiding the double play, in which case it's a Hobson's Choice where nothing you decide works out. / old coots know that a true Hobson's Choice is where Butch the third baseman attempts to get the lead runner but makes a bad throw and everybody is safe
  9. As would also your 29 peers in the other GM chairs. I'm pretty sure what we're seeing is Keuchel turning down a succession of short-term deals.
  10. When Duffey has command of the curveball, he can be effective. To me, the issue is the percentage of the games where this is the case. It's been too low. The days he repeatedly buries the curve in the dirt and the batters aren't biting, he has to come in with his fastball.
  11. But we already have replay/appeals, without the automation of balls-and-strikes.
  12. How exactly will automated balls-and-strikes calls delay games? Taking five seconds to jaw at the umpire before turning toward the dugout after a called third strike is a tiny delay that would go away, though.
  13. I still am. Unfavorably, now. Likewise to Ross Barnes, Rogers Hornsby, and on down to Teddy Ballgame, Sliding Billy Hamilton and (!) the Mets' Jeff McNeil at #14 all-time in BA with 100 PA.
  14. I was and remain unconvinced that Marwin Gonzalez's signing is a hill anyone should die on.
  15. Very good information. I'd complain about making roster decisions based on marketing needs, but that probably does happen with every team now and then, so I will mute my outrage. Since Sano isn't slated to start his rehab until May, I'll still stand with my guess as to what they'll do when we have a starting 3B again.
  16. Now that's the first thing you've said right.
  17. Good point. He split time between 2B and SS in the minors, suggesting that his management came to view his future (as with many young infielders) to be at 2B - but he played a bit of SS in 2017-18 for Baltimore/Milwaukee, so I would guess he wouldn't be a disaster if pressed into duty there.
  18. There's a good chance that by the time a decision needs to be made, Tortuga's BA will be under .300 and his OPS in a good-but-not-indispensible range. The injury rate for catchers is high, as you say, and cutting ties early with Castro thus has a risk. I'd see Willians spending two months in Rochester, awaiting a deadline deal that moves Castro to the NL.
  19. Oh, you meant the first post? Then, no. It's a game thread. The typo is too good to clean up. Own it.
  20. I have to believe that this was always the plan, when the 3-year contract was signed. Plans rarely work out exactly, and the injury ruined the second year of this particular plan, but it's nice when the overall intent seems to pan out.
  21. The only thing that bothers me is that on days the catcher bats 8th, the base clogging kills Buxton's run-scoring opportu-... oh wait, Castro's the one who hits 8th, and he doesn't clog anything.
