  1. I don't like the "Error" stat, because of the definition and the way it's implemented. So I'm with you on the demerit for Demeritte. Maybe I was incorrectly inferring that you were criticizing the scorer.
  2. "Ordinary effort" is the phrase. And mental errors are largely protected from that classification. For better or for worse, this probably was the standard call from any scorer MLB employs.
  3. The Hall can waive their own rules anytime they like, for instance on grounds of super-awesomeness.
  4. First-ballot HoF in 2020, I think you mean.
  5. Hope he's not busted for taking steeroids.
  6. Few were more in favor of signing Cruz than I. But Buxton's glove is what makes Buxton's bat important. We are blessed with some good bats who can fill in at CF in his absence. But to get a glove of his caliber means taking a serious hit on the offensive side of the game. We may look back later and see that Buxton's current .827 OPS wasn't sustainable. But if, on the contrary, it turns out this was the year he achieved his potential, a bat like his in CF (compared to his defensive peers) is perhaps greater than Cruz's (compared to his DH peers).
  7. A major league season wears players down, and in particular pares down the weight. When you come into Spring Training on the heels of a serious gastric infection, you stand the chance of not having the needed reserves. I actually think Gibson is showing a lot of character this season, perhaps along the lines of Radke's final season, and probably along the lines of dozens of players every single year.
  8. So you're saying... he was brought in with the bases loaded, and the second batter he faced launched a home run to give the opponents the lead.
  9. Gibson looks emaciated. Gaunt. Maybe skipping a start or two can let him build up some reserves.
  10. So many runs, so little enjoyment.
  11. Don't be too sure. Gibson was our starter tonight.
  12. Batter swings above one fastball, below the next. Duffey's got some good movement.
  13. Nah. THIS is Chief mugging me and taking over: A dad is washing the car with his son. After a moment, the son asks his father, "Do you think we could use a sponge instead?"
  14. Did you hear about the guy addicted to brake fluid? He said it wasn't a problem - he could stop anytime
  15. I'm enjoying this 12-4 game. Baseball.
  16. I didn't realize that Glen Perkins might be related to Marlin.
  17. Is this one of your cron-ic puns?
