    I don't know whether marathon games are more frequent in the post-season than in the regular. I'd be kind of leery of an extremely lean pitching staff that pretty much sells out to every game being decided in 9, or 10 at most.

    I think that works out to around 10% a year appreciation, compounded across 25 years. A good investment, but nothing totally out of the ordinary in the business world. I disagree with what Mike said about no risk. The risk is baked into the above appreciation. We look back now and see that the investment worked out. But truly low-risk investments carry much lower returns. In 25 years we've gone through some major ups and downs in the economy - there was no guarantee that 2008 wouldn't turn out much worse than it did, for instance. I don't side with the Tycoons. But I do try to understand how they think. And whoever bids the highest will be doing so in a hopes or expectations of good return on investment too. A charity that wants to win pennants for the masses will not be that high bidder. It just won't.

    I don't see how you leave Adrianza off. You have to be prepared for an injury during each series. In CF we have Kepler to slide over to there when need be. You can view Arraez or Marwin as emergency SS, but for the remainder of a series I think you want a SS with a better track record than those. (And I know Marwin's previous manager has extolled him as a fine SS, but for all his versatility the current manager has played him there for all of 9 innings this season.)

    We already have Cody Stashak. We had Cody Allen for a while. Too bad we didn't trade for Cody Bellinger back when the Dodgers were begging us to take him off their hands in exchange for Brian Dozier.* Perhaps Buffalo Bill Cody is still available as a free agent. * I may be mis-remembering a detail or two.

    While Schoop has two minor league options remaining, he has enough major league service time that he can refuse a demotion, and my guess is that he would exercise that right.

    I'd pump the brakes on that. He is currently a King of BABip. Batting Average on Balls In Play normally stabilizes around .300. Jake built his fine 2018 on a BABip of .363, and his major league numbers in 2019 are built on an even more outlandish BABip of .400. Now, I (as a player) would not achieve .300 - BABip is meaningful only for a decent level of skill. One could speculate that a high BABip represents skill itself. Let me dig into that. Jake has a career MLB BABip of .374 across 457 plate appearances. Do you know who has had a BABIp that high across an entire career (3000+ PA)? Just Ty Cobb. Not Babe Ruth, not Ted Williams, not... nobody. Reduce the threshold to just the 457 PA that Jake has. Who now makes the cut? Just 2 more, besides Jake and Ty. Luminaries named Jorge Alfaro and Austin Slater, both of whom are 26 and currently playing, along with Cave. Alfaro's carving out a decent career as a young catcher (Philly, now Miami after a big trade). Slater's trying to reach "decent" with the Giants. Seems a good bet that the BABip of these three contemporary players, early in their careers, will descend below .374 just like every other major league player not named Tyrus Raymond. These guys are extreme outliers. A high BABip of .374 doesn't look like a skill. Which is the long way of saying, no, I'm far from convinced the bat is for real. With normal luck of balls falling in, he's Jason Tyner.

    I'm one, and I'm still here. My complaints about Cave generally are about his decision making, both on defense and on the basepaths. Yesterday's excellent catch late in the game was more athleticism than decision making, i.e. "can he reach the ball" rather than "should he try", and it was fun to watch. If the homers continue to come, he might work his way out of my doghouse. But I still don't trust him on sinking line drives, or which base to throw to, or trying to nab an extra base himself.

    Eric Skoglund, 2 ER in 5 innings, can be the Whining Pitcher, though, and with good cause. He wuz robbed vultched!

    I'm not sure I'd ever thought about the other side of that coin, but fair's fair. You know what's not fair, though? Kennedy gets the Win. The ultimate Vulture win.
