  1. In late june he was put on the Injured List. That carries a minimum 7-day stay, and evidently he's not recovered yet. I don't know whether there was an announcement of what exactly is wrong; in the past it has been his shoulder. Worrisome, I agree. http://twinsdaily.com/topic/33691-article-twins-minor-league-report-624-davis-delivers-for-red-wings/
  2. I searched teh Intarwebs far and wide, and found no other instances of this phrase. Congratulations! You might have a viable Bulwer-Lytton entry on your hands!
  3. Ohhhh, that Mauer. He truly earned his nickname, "Mr. Gullible." It says it right there on his b-r.com page. It's what his teammates called him. Mr. Gullible. Yep, that's what they called him. Check for yourself. https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/mauerjo01.shtml
  4. ... as long as the opposing batters have to respect the breaking pitches. I've seen too many times where Tyler can't throw anything but the fastball for strikes. When that's the case, fastball fastball fastball, blammo.
  5. Rooker's not on the 40-man roster. You don't make a consequential move like that "for a game".
  6. Last year that little opposite-field single by Buxton would have been an embarrassing swing to pull it.
  7. You may have missed a few days ago an occasional TD poster who is from Pensacola offered this unofficial insight: http://twinsdaily.com/topic/33738-article-twins-minor-league-report-627-enlow-caught-in-pitcher’s-duel/?p=871959 "Pretty sure the reason Hackimer was suspended has something to do with his public display of anger at the manager (Borrego) on the field. My husband was at the game. I can't describe it further than this as I was not there." So, an instance of minor insubordination, that is being handled. If I was running a business in the public eye, I'd probably handle a personnel matter like this similarly. It has nothing to do with the player's on-field performance, so it's really no one else's business, IMO. Not... that I don't appreciate learning jamisea's insight. I'm not above gossip.
  8. Touch the body of the post that you wish to quote, and at the bottom of the post (so maybe you'll have to scroll down) there will be some buttons among which one is "Quote". Touch the body of the post again, to make the buttons go away. Or, at least, that's how it is on my Android phone.
  9. A ninth-rounder from 2002 is a benchmark for anything? I literally did not remember the name. He wasn't touted, was he? If you're doing some kind of RandBall's Stu satire, ya got me.
  10. I agree that it's hard, and I'm not fully versed in the distinctions among the stats out there, but I'd have to say that modern defensive stats seem to like our 2019 Twins a lot. "Elite" as in "absolute best in the league," no. Houston seems to be that. But top 3 or 4 in the AL? Probably. Have a look at the baseball-reference selection of metrics - Defensive Efficiency, Total Zone Rating, Defensive Runs Saved - and all of them put the Twins in a good light. Fielding percentage is about the last way I would evaluate any team, for two or three independent but big reasons. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/AL/2019-standard-fielding.shtml I also agree with DocBauer about the eye test. I think it's more reliable in small sample than equivalent samples for batting and pitching, for the simple reason that the batter and pitcher are both trying to outdo the other while the batted ball is not nearly so cussed. You still want a good-size sample, to get a sense for bad hops and so forth, but you're less likely to get completely fooled about talent, and the ability to translate that into plays made.
  11. The crack moderation team took no chances and ran Google Translate, just to be safe. BTW: 同意する。
  12. With regard to accuracy, I don't see enough examples to rule out cherry-picking. Did they evaluate the recent Encarnacion trade, for instance? I'll speculate that what it accurately reflects is the state of the art with respect to amateur analytics. That's not nothing. It's also not gospel.
  13. I did a few minutes of web-surfing and didn't turn up anything. Without an official announcement, I choose to assume (speculate) it's some infraction of team rules, as opposed to anything mandated by the leagues. Missing the team bus twice in a month, for instance, or tardy to team meetings enough times to draw the next level of action. I would read little into it for the long term - the organization might just be taking a tougher stance on certain rules, making an example of players here and there. Again, pure speculation.
  14. Difficult to disagree with something I can not parse.
  15. Small world. I don't recognize the name but I'm pretty sure Talbott was at several of the companies I worked for. There can't be two people like him.
  16. I can find video for only two of the three extra-base hits, but of those two (Brosseau and Lowe), I don't think anyone would have caught those on the fly for the third out. They were scorched, and landed in a hurry.
  17. Also, while I'm not a fan of viewing Wade as a center fielder, he could be used there in a pinch, which is more than I think with Rooker. Although Rosario and Cave would rank ahead of him, that extra bit of flexibility might matter, absent the 40-man issue that likely predominates the decision.
  18. Willians wrung absolutely every drop out of his ability, to make that foul catch. A faster man would likely have been under it, perhaps without even a need for a leap. Not a totally easy play, but as the saying goes, "he makes the tough plays look difficult." I too enjoyed the fond reactions from his teammates, although I couldn't help inferring a little tinge of surprise when a less-than-gifted companion accomplishes something that most others take for granted. It's like Gibby's mom had told him before the game, "now, you boys have to let Willians play too. It's the nice thing to do."
  19. Bottom of the second, 0-0, GCL Twins are hitless through their two innings. This has been your Circus Boy game thread Update.
  20. I think this article is a little behind the times. Duffey's three highest-leverage appearances have all been in the month of June. Two successes, one fail IMO (whether or not the runs counted as earned). 21 batters faced in those 3 games, 12 outs recorded. Jury's out, I'd say, but it's not been stellar. His OPS is better than league average, and for relievers I find that a simpler way to assess results than to pick through unearned runs and inherited runners and so forth. I guess the braintrust noticed too, and decided to start testing him a little more when it matters, about three weeks ago.
