  1. Now, about the slow response I've been seeing today from the site, whereas it's been normal everywhere else I've visited.
  2. In-game commentary is always welcome. But I suspect I'm a little typical, in that I drift in, catch up on what's going on, and then something inevitably calls me away. They need to double my pay if I'm going to get serious about doing PbP.
  3. In ST you get your work in, during a couple of innings, then head to the buffet.
  4. Time for dinner for me as well. Hopefully the Twins won't have coughed up the lead when I come back.
  5. My alma mater liked to call itself the Harvard of the Midwest. My inquiries to Harvard as to whether they reckoned themselves to be the Butler of the Northeast went unanswered.

  7. He was wearing a truss? Ixnay for sure.
  8. She did. But she's not so young anymore. She immediately tripped over something. I wasn't able to see what.
  9. At first I thought this was your euphemism for what Schilling chose to combat.
  10. I've been seeing the behavior for several weeks now. You can tell because I've been sprinkling my own posts with triple and quadruple spaces between sentences. I see it in my own posts, and I see it in others' too. What may be especially interesting is that if I reply to someone via Quote, I do see normal spacing in their text while I'm in the editor. When I finish and click Post, the lack of spacing is noticeable again. So I wouldn't phrase it as the system removing spaces, merely failing to display them. I'm using Firefox 36.0. I see it also with IE 11.0.9600.176341. I'm on Windows 8.1, in case that matters; in fact I'm leaning toward thinking that it does, given your difficulty in reproducing the behavior.
  11. And, like a lot of guys against Perk, missing?
  12. Now that the players are there in person, what are the biggest surprises in terms of visible differences?
  13. With the turnover in on-field management, I'd be inclined more than usual to let them judge during spring training whether he's benefiting from instruction and is getting good at bats. I don't mean simply good stats, since you can fatten up in spring against the wanna-be's and never-were's on the other teams. But if he's punishing "his" pitches when the bad pitchers are in there, and laying off "their" pitches when the big boys are taking their turns, I'd bring him north. I'm not in favor of platooning him, in this age of 12- and 13-man pitching staffs, unless the rest of the roster is so solid that a CF platoon causes no compromises elsewhere; and I especially don't build a platoon around the less-used (vs LHP) half of it.
  14. FTFY. Sano's got 90 HR in 379 games. Quibble quibble quibble, I know.
  15. What I might add are Vision and Imagination. The ability to see what's wrong, the ability to see what's right, the ability to see the possibilities that don't even exist yet.
  16. "The primary cause of problems is solutions." I don't disagree with your viewpoint, but each of these individual nations has its own axe to grind. For instance we've seen Shiite militias come in and do similar heinous things when they get the upper hand on Sunni populations. And the Kurds are a wild card in all this, that none of the other players welcomes except tactically in an "enemy of my enemy" type of way. Having a joint force of other Muslims come in to liberate ISIS territory plays into ISIS's narrative to the locals that they are saving the Sunnis from outside forces. US forces are a different kind of outside force (one that ISIS openly desires to battle against, in the name of bringing about the End Days sooner), but not unique in that regard.
  17. Rub some dirt on it, and play ball.
  18. "All the talent in the world" may be generous, if you think it means the next Mickey Mantle. The narrative probably comes from being the type of player who finds himself in AAA at age 21 and acquits himself reasonably. That doesn't happen by accident. He's many years older than that by now, though not in a usual "decline phase" yet - perhaps some wear and tear has eroded the talent prematurely. But he OPS'ed .800 as recently as the season before last, so a good working hypothesis is that the ability is still there, and the story on him has always been the mental aspect.
  19. If you believe players keep improving, then plateau, then decline, it's arbitrary to pick a year since players are individuals. But the expiration of rookie status seems even more so. IMO the spirit of ranking farm systems is to anticipate better days for a team, and a 22 year old becoming incrementally better at age 23 and 24 and 25 is just as good for a team's purposes whether he's already on the big squad or not.
