  1. Here I am typing normally. Does it work? Here I am typing like somebody says I should. How about now?
  2. Me either, which is why I perked up at Ryan's wording. It's probably nothing.
  3. I agree that that quote should be ignored. I'm less sure about ignoring, "Alex better realize he has to earn this thing." Makes me wonder if Meyer has somehow rubbed his bosses the wrong way, with an unearned sense of entitlement or whatever.
  4. My reaction to the photo of Meyer in the article is that the editors got ahold of software that pretends to age someone to age 50 or so.
  5. Too bad the Twins didn't make this signing a couple of years ago. Eh, no ill will toward Kevin actually - and good luck to him. He didn't command a premium price when the Twins got him and he probably represented decent value for the money in the first year at least. Signing free agents is the tax you pay for not having the right guys ready in your farm system.
  6. I'm shaky on what a sports hernia exactly is and now I'm thrown the phrase "right core muscle injury" which the article makes sound pretty similar. Strained something in the belly, past the ability of the body to recover on its own, is all I can muster as an explanation. Bad timing, it being his contract year, but hopefully it doesn't wind up as a lost season for him. Never heard anything to suggest he's not a great guy who deserves good luck.
  7. If catcher is the primary enticement, I just looked and Eric Fryer sports a .660 lifetime OPS and would probably provide better defense there. If Herrmann's half season stats at AAA last year reflect something real going on, it does make him interesting. It just looks out of line with his progression so far, so color me skeptical. Combine his age 25-26 numbers at AAA, knock off .100 points of OPS for coming up to the majors, and he looks like Eric Fryer at bat, to me. He could be a 25th man on a roster for a season or two; so could 100 other guys.
  8. Yeah, I'd view .675 as a bit below minimal unless we're talking about really good defense wherever he's plugged in. I guess "interesting" is a fuzzy enough descriptor to cover a difference of opinion about last position player for the roster. For me it puts him at "close to being in the discussion" maybe.
  9. Nice diving catch by Kepler just now. Looking forward to being down there myself a week from now.
  10. Parmelee caught Hunter's popup near first. Didn't see mention of him in this thread before now, so I'm mentioning him now. Of course, this is the Orioles, so it's old home week afternoon for ex-Twins. Delmon's up to bat as I type this.
  11. Limited to when they are at the plate, I guess.
  12. My idea of "at all" differs if we're talking about a candidate for catcher versus corner outfielder. I assume CF isn't really in the discussion.
  13. The warning is appreciated by this reader. And heeded.
  14. There are so many different changeups out there, who is to say?
  15. “I can outfish the majority of people, but Miguel [sano] kills me. And he won’t tell me his secret.” Love it. Competitors compete. You'd have to pay them not to.
  16. Or just let him start a game. Events will unfold. / I'm actually hoping/rooting/expecting Pelf to do well enough to make the 5th starter decision difficult. Today's outing was not much in line with that however.
  17. Salary ultimately derives as much from an assessment of higher attendance, as from wins added. Chicks being known to dig the long ball, and all that. Neither attribute can be known very closely, of course - despite WAR being published to a tenth of a win usually.
  18. "I do have one regret I finished with 18 homeruns really wanted to get 20 so if any team wants to sign me for 3yrs that should be enough time" Good one, Monsieur Pierre.
  19. Baseball is all about adjustments. Even a successful guy has to modify what he's doing at times. I'm fine with this kind of experimentation at this point in Spring, even for Hughes.
  20. Two spaces between words also is probably frowned upon by style manuals, and is similarly punished at the moment, though you may not be seeing it here.
  21. Agreed. But unless Big Pelf shows something better than he showed today, it won't be him.
  22. He'll need to pitch better than he did today, sometime soon, or nobody is going to take him at all.
  23. Missed the game, I see Hughes gave up 3 hits plus a BB in 1 inning yet surrendered no runs. Fielding heroics, or did Hughes come out for a second inning and have to be lifted with no one retired?
