  1. Exactly why everybody wants to trade him at the moment.
  2. On the recent broadcast I heard the announcer pronounce his name bay-REE-oce. Made me realize I had been doing it wrong. As with Arcia's name, I kind of hate to see us encourage what seems like a mangling of his name. / sorry to be a stick in the mud
  3. We must have different definitions of winded. I stop walking and put my hands on my knees, etc. I don't see how to infer anything like that, not even on the same spectrum, from this video. I'm satisfied to enjoy the no-doubt home run off of a presumed pop-up.
  4. Eeenteresting. That's because Sano's a lock to go north with the big club? It is hard for me to understand the benefit they expect for him in AA, apart from the rust-shaking-off I mentioned.
  5. My experience two years ago was getting there early means getting free parking even on game days. What constitutes early is probably a good question though.Ten a.m. probably is pushing your luck. I think I was usually there before 9. As ChiTown said, if "all" you want is to watch drills and minor league games on the back fields, there's no admission charge as far as I know. Those games are interesting, with loosey-goosey rules - Morneau batted every inning, third I think, in one game I watched. Sometimes a pitcher hits his pitch count and there's two outs and they just end the inning rather than warm up someone to come in. A few other sandlot-style rules have escaped my memory at the moment - I don't think I ever saw them call for a ghost-runner. Probably plenty of courtesy runners though. Good times.
  6. I think you can make a strong case to start Sano at AAA, a decent case to start Rosario there, and a marginal case for Polanco to be up there at the outset. If Sano needed to shake the rust off then starting at AA might be called for but so far this Spring there's no evidence of that. Rosario didn't exactly shine at bat in AA but he didn't embarrass himself either. The problem for Polanco might be his progress on defense as much as offense. I don't see any of them as clearly unworthy of AAA if that's the direction the farm director wants to go, but I won't be outraged if any of them start at AA. Two out of three at AAA will suit me fine.
  7. Perhaps they would like to acquire Torii Hunter to help mentor whomever they replace Stroman with. (*ducking*)
  8. Here I am typing normally. Does it work? Here I am typing like somebody says I should. How about now?
  9. Me either, which is why I perked up at Ryan's wording. It's probably nothing.
  10. I agree that that quote should be ignored. I'm less sure about ignoring, "Alex better realize he has to earn this thing." Makes me wonder if Meyer has somehow rubbed his bosses the wrong way, with an unearned sense of entitlement or whatever.
  11. My reaction to the photo of Meyer in the article is that the editors got ahold of software that pretends to age someone to age 50 or so.
  12. Too bad the Twins didn't make this signing a couple of years ago. Eh, no ill will toward Kevin actually - and good luck to him. He didn't command a premium price when the Twins got him and he probably represented decent value for the money in the first year at least. Signing free agents is the tax you pay for not having the right guys ready in your farm system.
  13. I'm shaky on what a sports hernia exactly is and now I'm thrown the phrase "right core muscle injury" which the article makes sound pretty similar. Strained something in the belly, past the ability of the body to recover on its own, is all I can muster as an explanation. Bad timing, it being his contract year, but hopefully it doesn't wind up as a lost season for him. Never heard anything to suggest he's not a great guy who deserves good luck.
  14. If catcher is the primary enticement, I just looked and Eric Fryer sports a .660 lifetime OPS and would probably provide better defense there. If Herrmann's half season stats at AAA last year reflect something real going on, it does make him interesting. It just looks out of line with his progression so far, so color me skeptical. Combine his age 25-26 numbers at AAA, knock off .100 points of OPS for coming up to the majors, and he looks like Eric Fryer at bat, to me. He could be a 25th man on a roster for a season or two; so could 100 other guys.
  15. Yeah, I'd view .675 as a bit below minimal unless we're talking about really good defense wherever he's plugged in. I guess "interesting" is a fuzzy enough descriptor to cover a difference of opinion about last position player for the roster. For me it puts him at "close to being in the discussion" maybe.
  16. Nice diving catch by Kepler just now. Looking forward to being down there myself a week from now.
  17. Parmelee caught Hunter's popup near first. Didn't see mention of him in this thread before now, so I'm mentioning him now. Of course, this is the Orioles, so it's old home week afternoon for ex-Twins. Delmon's up to bat as I type this.
  18. Limited to when they are at the plate, I guess.
  19. My idea of "at all" differs if we're talking about a candidate for catcher versus corner outfielder. I assume CF isn't really in the discussion.
  20. The warning is appreciated by this reader. And heeded.
  21. There are so many different changeups out there, who is to say?
  22. “I can outfish the majority of people, but Miguel [sano] kills me. And he won’t tell me his secret.” Love it. Competitors compete. You'd have to pay them not to.
  23. Or just let him start a game. Events will unfold. / I'm actually hoping/rooting/expecting Pelf to do well enough to make the 5th starter decision difficult. Today's outing was not much in line with that however.
