  1. "Was that a clown comment I just heard, bro?"
  2. Has anyone here seen Rosario play 2B, back in the minors? I am operating under the assumption that he is "adequate" there, but not fully up to major league standards. With Sano likely to be sub-par on defense at 3B for a season or two, I'd be very leery of throwing Rosario into the mix at 2B as well, if we're talking about trading veterans en masse. At 2B I think I'd rather force-feed Polanco and put up with a sub-par bat until he gets acclimated. Which then leaves us again with what to do with Rosario if you don't think he has the bat to play OF. Man, for all the talk about our pipeline of prospects, we're starting to look like a basketball team with a bunch of "tweeners" - guys too short or not strong enough to play their preferred position but not speedy enough to drop down one position, and with only OK mid-range jump shots but not enough ability to create their own plays or to harass the other team with deadly three-pointers.
  3. At that level of talent and accomplishment, there is always the chance that a non-prospect is one "aha!" moment of understanding away from turning that corner, and becoming good enough. A coach says something, or an opposing player does something, or the player himself looks at something a different way - and suddenly one particular kind of breaking pitch in the dirt is readable, or whatever. Odds are against, but since the player doesn't know what he doesn't know, necessarily, the hope is there, and if you love the game anyway, you hang on for another year.
  4. I predict the loser goes home. It's a one-game series. With no rooting interest, put me down for "who cares". I don't like the present wild-card setup. Ask me again when the real playoff series are set. Sorry.
  5. Perhaps, but you forgot about the Stern Words.
  6. EE was severely underutilized in the first half of the season due to the lengthy audition at SS given to Danny Santana. Once EE was installed as a full-time starter, he allayed at least my concerns that he would wear down offensively. So the stats come out deceptively similar (he did increase his power by a smidgen) but I can go along with considering him to be much improved. Not that I wouldn't give the nod to Hicks.
  7. Came here for this, leaving satisfied and smiling.
  8. Since the contract decision on Torii will have to happen sometime around December, just like last time, I am not sure what you think the youngsters in question can actually do in the meantime. Step up and sign a petition?
  9. I think we've seen his ceiling from the very good games that he's thrown this year and last. The question for me is whether coaching can coax out more of those games in relation to the stinkers. When you're a last place team, a up-and-down guy like Gibson can improve your fortunes. When you're contending for first place, an up-and-down guy will hold you back. Kyle was one of the big reasons for the Twins' strong May 2015. 5 out of 6 starts were really good and even the sixth one kept his team in the game for five innings. But the second half of the season was back to the situation where you never really knew which Gibson you were going to see, game to game. Maybe he's one of those guys where, when he's physically right, he can tap into 100% of his potential, but when something is amiss he just can't find the adjustments. Since nobody goes through a season without twinges and worse, that's worrisome. I don't recall him making excuses, so I just don't know what to think here. So as usual it comes down to talent evaluation by those close to him. If the brain trust feels he's just an adjustment or two away from consistently keeping his team in the game and sometimes dominating, keep him without question. If he's always going to alternate bad games with the good, trade him for value if you find another GM with a more favorable talent evaluation on him.
  10. I'm a fan. I didn't get one. What gives? / I know what gives
  11. I am VERY disappointed in the off-season. Not one move by Terry Ryan and company. The complacency of this organization drives me nuts! / am I doing this right?
  12. Could make it an automatic strike one, on the next batter. I guess that means if you hit a walk-off homer, you do get to flip your bat penalty-free. / don't really don't to go that far either, just saying the penalty doesn't need to be as extreme as ejection. / and if the next batter is 2013 Aaron Hicks or 2015 Byron Buxton, the one-strike penalty might as well be an automatic out.
  13. The enemy of my enemy may also be my enemy. Fighting ISIS looks like about 4th on Putin's list of priorities in that country. prop up Assad. wipe out the American led factions in particular. establish further precedent that this corner of the world is their sphere of influence (or, said differently, tug at Uncle Sam's beard a little bit). oh, and, yeah, Islamic extremism, he doesn't like that very much, either.Don't get me wrong, I'm not super paranoid about the return of the Soviet Empire or anything. And I don't know if any of these supposed goals are attainable for him. I just think we should see things through Putin's eyes to have some guess about what Putin is doing.
  14. At this stage of the rebuild, players should be traded because there is an oversupply at the position, not because they might be "sell-high" candidates.
  15. I think looking back on a team that underperformed, even if it's second-guessing, can be worth doing. But this team overperformed. I continue to look at the 1984 Twins as a cautionary tale - they made the big jump from a 90-loss team, using many of the core of players that eventually won it all, then wallowed through two sub-par seasons before getting to the promised land.
  16. And what the OP promised in post #1.
  17. This game itself was more of a whimper than a bang, unfortunately. But thanks for a good season of game threads, all!
  18. Paul Molitor: "Ashbury, GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!!!" / OK, I got the order wrong
  19. Nice base knock for Escobar. Behind 6-1 in the 8th it's probably not important, but a hit's a hit.
  20. Vargas hits a fly ball to RF warning track, and no Bremergasm. Don't Drink?
  21. Torii just came up out of the dugout to take a bow, during a video tribute. Guess there won't be a pinch hitting appearance?
  22. Come on Graham. The pitcher's up to bat. Strike Butera out!!!
  23. Nice soft hands by the fan in the RF foul stands for the catch!
  24. Still, the focus of the comment was on others. As the TD Comment Policy says in just about every way possible, when in doubt it's best to not frame a discussion in terms of other people. A-OK: "I would support bringing Torii back - among other things I like his outspokenness." Not-Nearly-So-OK: "There is a segment of the fan base that doesn't like his outspokenness." Even apart from the explicit race angle, it's already going down a path that eventually leads to unproductive bickering. Well, OK, it's the reverse - when bickering has broken out, it usually stemmed from some post that took things unnecessarily to a personal level, and others took the bait. I'm actually gratified at how often no other TD posters take the bait when someone says something inflammatory.
  25. Batting lineup populated by the guys with the least plate appearances. Nolasco, Duensing, Graham so far on the mound... kind of the forgotten men there too. Achter, O'Rourke next? "Thanks for playing!"
