  1. I'm going to go out on a limb and say this was an example of Molitor's high Baseball IQTM making the call, to try and abuse their poor-fielding third baseman.
  2. Record? I doubt if anything will ever be more verbose than my Gardy Boys thread starter last year.
  3. Is that the secret to why Beef With Broccoli in Chinese restaurants is so delicious?
  4. Dean seems to have a good motion on his changeup. He looks like he's throwing the fastball, just like Coach explained it to him.
  5. That's about what I figured. Hell or High Water == Sorry Kid I Thought You'd Come Around By This Time.
  6. Go to Heaven for the climate but Hell for the company. -- Mark Twain
  7. The first inning tonight was hell. You positive you'd put up with that, for 20+ additional starts if that's how it went?
  8. I'm pretty sure that's a tortured reading of what I wrote, especially since I specifically mentioned the dirty slide. So the bad blood has history to it, and it flared up in that game. Other infielders experience similar, and a punch to the jaw isn't the remedy they choose.
  9. Best news I've heard in a while. My hope was that he wasn't in AAA simply to get more experience there, but to reconstruct his swing and maybe even the entire approach at the plate, out of the glare of the major league environment. That isn't something that can be mastered overnight ("OK coach, good, got it, thanks!") so a return to Minneapolis in July is soon enough to not worry me. I saw him in Pawtucket the other day, but am not nearly an astute enough scout to notice a change in his leg kick or whatever. I am exactly astute enough to notice and appreciate the ball leaving the yard on the second pitch of the game, though. Bottom line, stop biting on the sliders in the dirt, stop flailing at pitches too far outside, stop swinging through strikes in the zone. All interconnected of course (which is why I don't think it's an exaggeration to view it as a reconstruct), but it's still a lot to work on.
  10. 30 seems on the low side, frankly. 90 would suit me better. Lesser suspensions (on the order of 2 to 5 games) and fines for the others involved, but that one punch is far far beyond the stupid "unwritten rules" about bat flipping and retaliation and dirty slides that the fight had been operating under until that point. For that matter, and I'm sure the CBA doesn't allow it, but a drug test on Odor might prove illuminating. 'Roid Rage? Nah, just Idiocy Rage, probably.
  11. I no longer believe much in Gibson. He's too inconsistent to be a real contributor to the 100 win team that I want us to be shooting for. I'm sure the spirit is willing, but something about the flesh is weak for him. I think also that a 35-year old Santana in 2018 is a risk. Here's hoping that one of the arms on the farm will come through in the next year and half and become something to rely on. That's the cautiously optimistic side speaking. I'm actually pretty worried.
  12. Well obviously I wasn't literally serious that the specific number of games at AAA was the final missing piece to his success going forward. But I guess whatever serious aspect there was in my post, was to caution against certainty. His stats in Spring weren't that great. Maybe they had a specific thing or two they spotted and wanted him to work on in AAA, so he did it, and is now back up. Tipping pitches would be an example of something specific that could be ironed out pretty quickly. I don't know for a fact that this isn't how it went; do you?
  13. Said, every pitching coach or scout, ever.
  14. He wasn't, until he got that extra AAA seasoning.
  15. Was that the regular one or the backdoor?
  16. No no no. It was a legitimate double, deflected by the CF. Gameday said so.
  17. Yeah, he probably wasn't the right target for that particular pun.
  18. As opposed to his straight fastball, you mean?
  19. You misspelled Abad's last name. HTH.
  20. I no longer get the jokes on Game Threads. Except the plays on Abad's last name.
  21. If his point was that Terry Ryan should be fired, I think the author failed to make his case.
  22. Brandon kind of put the jinx on Trevor May for that night. OTOH he put the reverse jinx ("hitless in his last four games") on Park who has gone 3-8 with 2 homers.
