  1. Seth, If you had to rank the most important pitching coaches LEFT in the Twins org. who would they be? 1) Bob Cuellar 2) Niel Allen 3) Steven Mintz Marty Mason? 4) Gary Lucas Ivan Artega ? 5) NA ? Is that essentially, all we have left? I'm sure MR. Smith is one of the coaches i like a lot but he's a manager now....are there any good talents in the rookie ball levels that teach this aspect of the game? pitching pitching pitching Also Just realized Henry Bonilla is going to be the pitching coach in Iowa for the Twins.
  2. I wonder whose pitching for the Rays first 2 innings? any guesses? I hope its either Archer, Cobb, or Colome, maybe Smyly ? this way twins' hitters will get to see someone with a decent fast-ball
  3. Its amazing how much Mauer's stance has changed in the last year or 2 (damn oblique strain) (just glance at the Mauer as Votto fangraphs article) The swing is essentially similar, albiet probably a little different But his stance isn't even anywhere close to the "old" Mauer for those hoping he hits .310 - .320 + this year DONT GET UR HOPES UP i'm gonna say around .287 with 7-9 Hr's hopefully a few more.
  4. I think trading Trevor Plouffe is a bad idea, somewhat based on my assumption that we won't get great value for him. If Dozier is extended for 40-50 million. And we Trade Plouffe away within the next 12 months on the cheap. I think it would be a mistake. 2 and 3 years from now theres a more than decent chance, regardless of position...that plouffe still Plouffe > Dozier > Nunez, Escobar , Rosario , and pretty much all of our OF'ers besides Buxton I mean Sano, Buxton and Polanco would be the only guys i think are ahead of Plouffe come 2017-2018. As far as postional guys go. (I guess maybe Mauer as well) Arcia could look like a young budding star by this time next year, or a guy who may need to sit in AAA and figure things out if he expects to ever make a real impact. At least we essentially know what we're getting with Plouffe. Arcia and many of the others we do not yet.
  5. James Beresford is not a no name?!?!? If it wasn't for Brian Dozier , chances are either HE or Nunez would be our opening day starter at 2B ! James Beresford? you don't remember him, like 80% of the 6 scouts the Twins have LOVED him , and i remember them saying if he fills out his upper body (which it looks he has) he'll be a solid 'little' player. Maybe i'm thinking of Rob Antony or Brad Steil that said that but i swear it was quoted directly from a scout. Also, If Rosario is going to keep swinging at nearly everything.....I'm not so sure he'll ever hit consistantly at the MLB level. I miss his E-TOWn swing and the Low A power stroke, i think he's tweaked it for the better. (obviously) But he's got to start taking pitches and drawing walks. Otherwise clean or not Rosario is a quad A guy for me.
  6. Its definately a concern for me, I mean at some point with-in the next 2-3 years he'll have to change his diet. Because when you hit you're mid or upper 20's you're metabolism starts to slow down and then again when ur in ur low 30's a significant amount. I'm starting to feel if we get 2-3 decent years of 3B out of Sano we'll have to take it and run with it. I'd be happy with that. I like Plouffe in Left next year , Arcia back in RF. in 2017 I'm not sure where Sano will be, honestly.
  7. Yeah Max. Well said. 1) All-star (annually) 2) Star player, well above average 3) Division 1 regular 4) Division 2 regular (Hicks, Escobar, Plouffe types) 5) Bench, role player, utility guy 6) the dreaded "quad A" player. of those 6 possible outcomes for Twins prospects.. Probably only 1 hits #1 . maybe 2 (or 1) in the "Star player" category and You hope the rest, at least in the Twins top 10, somewhere between outcomes #3 and #5 The Twins can not afford any # 6's with their top 10 , At least not more than one. (injuries aside) I think Gleeman gets the big picture, and I like his down-to-earth realistic approach to looking at prospects. I think he's much more a "realist" than a pessimist. But i will say He is in my opinion going to be waay way wrong about Garver Vs Stu Turner, i have Turner 19th and feel could be low, Also i Don't quite understand his love For Mike Cederoth vs someone like Tyler Duffey. Every year he likes Ryan Eades, Luke Bard, Hudson Boyd types right after they are drafted, while continually over-looking Taylor Rogers types. This year it is no different with Duffey vs Cederoth. Aaron, if you come back in here, Thanks for ur Lists everyyear they are really great.. (one of a kind) and for the work you put into them. Keeps me coming back to ur blog!
  8. problem w/ that is you think hicks will listen to yet another coach at this point , or a guy whose been there and done that, and will be playing along side him everyday? we were going to sign a corner Of'er no matter what so if you want compare Rios - Rasmus - Markakis - Hunter - Suzuki - Aoki and see who else you would of rather had. for me the ONLY guy is Markakis who makes even more money.
  9. Some of The questions that will be answered soon are : only room enough for one of T. Harrison or A.B. Walker which one will it be? and who will do the bulk of the catching for the club to start the season ? Stu Tuner? someone else? Grimes? Knudsen? The other one i have personally is: Eddie Rosario AAA or AA to begin the year? maybe even MLB?
  10. My Chattanooga Lookouts timetable: Eddie Rosario - April only Jose Berrios - April thru July Miguel Sano - April thru June Byron Buxton - Whole season Nick Burdi - Most of season Jorge Polanco - April thru July Max Kepler - Whole Season Travis Harrison June thru season Kohl Stewart ? A.B. Walker ? i have them starting the yr. in Ft. Myers and they should see time there late in year. Anybody else I'm forgetting? - I have Taylor Rogers in AAA. (Mason Melotakis should see AA time early on) Jake Reed should hopefully see time there as well... Maybe Ryan Eades?
  11. I was impressed by May in September much more than in August. As others have pointed out he needs to pitch better, a lot better, from the stretch. I'm only giving may about a 33% chance to open yr in the MLB rotation. .. but if he doesn't make that; its still very possilbe he starts year out in bullpen. So he can work on coming into games with a runner on first, and one out in the 6th or 7th inning. Would almost be good for his development at this point, the littttttle bit of time he has left. I personally see 0% chance for guys like Boyer, Achter, Oliveros, Pryor, Graham, Darnell, and even a marginal chance for Pressly and Tonkin.
  12. I have this group: Thorpe 10th (if Thorpe did not have the injury questions i could see him as high as 7th or 8th) Kepler 12th Gonsalves 13th Walker 16th Rogers 20th
  13. I disagree with the hypothetical notion Phills would want or even Ask for Buxton, I think they even know the #1 prospect is off-limits. I could see Amaro asking for Sano as the highlighter in any such deal, in which i would Be glad to hear TR and co politely decline. Or counter with Meyer, May, Polanco and a C+ guy. We'll see. Hamels, in terms of both pieces to acquire and in terms of Anual salarly is probably well too rich for our blood and Pohlads wallet anyway... I'm ok with that. I'm ok with passing on Shields too. However Question for Jeremy, Steve Lein and others.... if Shields would be willing to take a 38~ 40 $ Million dollar deal on 2 yrs would you do that if you were the Twins and (barely) got the go ahead approval from St. Peter and Pohlad?
  14. I can't help but think when mlbtraderumors says, ' 5 to 6 teams discussing w/ Phills about potential Hamels trade' . I can't help but wonder if names like Trevor May or Alex Meyer are being thrown around, Duffey maybe as a 3rd piece but. how about Jorge Polanco , Kohl Stewart, A.B. Walker , and Taylor Rogers for Hamels? I personally wouldn't offer Meyer. Maybe think about May instead of Stewart, I just think The phils would prefer Stewart. Essentially I wouldn't offer any top top guys like Buxton , Sano , Meyer , Berrios and I'd try to keep guys like Rosario , and Thorpe and Gonsalves. BUT being completely honest , for a guy like Hamels...T. Duffey , and Travis Harrison are exactly the types of guys i hope the Phills bite on as pieces #2 and #3 in any such deal. (hopefully if we offer 3 or 4 solid guys the Phills take on 3 mill a year on Hamels' deal or so)
  15. What was that Thrylos has Buxton 3rd? lol what a prospect noob! All these years going back to Twinkie Town, Thrylos, have now been disregarded. From this day forward I Taketh away the Power of Thrylos. But in all seriousness I <3 thrylos' added knowledge but nnnnot quite as much as Seth Stohs and Nygaard.
  16. ya.... Heywaard , oor Upton right? Rosario, Meyer, and Rogers was a few of the names nahhh no way
  17. If i wasn't practically in Nebraska right now, and living here. I would definately be There! Have a great time those that go....and Please be respectful and whisper during the interviews of St. Peter , Jacque and or Laudner. !
  18. Sweet Vid, GO J.O. ! I like and appreciate the fact that he shows such passions for his woman, and like the fact he's a parent and father, it seems to help his drive and focus even more. Stay healthy J.O. and we will see ya in Minny sooner than many!
  19. When i first read the piece, i thought "more that one teams" i immediately thought of the Twins. I've got it. Ricky Nolasco and 6 Million dollars for Charlie Blackmon. So essentially the Rox would only owe Nolasco $ 10 M a yr for the next 3 yrs. If it takes somebody like a Alex Meyer i'd be in the "NO WAY" camp on that.
  20. Also for Seth, I miss Hang out and talk Twins podcasts. That podcast is my favorite one by a lot.
  21. Brandon Peterson, Cam Booser and Adrian Salcedo are good underratted guys that could end up pitching in 7th inning mlb leverage situations. Brandon Paulson is a great story, but i'm not expecting anything from him really.
  22. 2 words to remember though Billy Bullock also Jose Mijares also Anthony Slama and Rob Delaney also what Ever happened to Luke Bard? I really really really hope J.T. 95-97 MPH throwing Chargois pans out.
  23. in 2016? I'm already way past Perkins as the closer, I think we'd be lucky if Perkins was pitching in the 7th inning regulary in 2016. Melotakis and Reed? I'd take top end middle relievers in the Majors right now from them. Burdi , Chargois and maaaybe Zach Jones maybe they can develop into 8th inning guys or closers.
  24. ..... Although Vargas will probably start the yr. in AAA, with Hunter and possilby 1 other now in the fold. Nolasco to the Cubs this off-season? if we eat 6-9 Million of the remainder of the deal. So basically the Cubs would be getting Nolasco for 3 yrs at $30 Million . They could send us Edwin Jackson's sad deal with only 1 yr left on it back....and a C+ prospect.
  25. 97.837 % on Alex Meyer seems so right for me. Although, I too, would put it slightly higher than 10% he makes opening day rotation. ~maybe 25%. Something could easily happen to May (stuggles, injury) and Pelfrey should almost be slated for long-reliever , 7th man in the bullpen. That gives Meyer maybe 60% to crack rotation out of spring. As for Tommy Milone, I see a FSL - to Rochester re-boot re-habilitation for him and his arm issues. At the very least he cannot start the season higher than Rochester the more i think about it. Unless he is healthier than i anticipate and Does what he does in ST. I think Buxton should be about 40% and Sano about 60% There is soo much patience at this point, that needs to be used. Rosario i agree 78% or 80 is pretty good. Many of the others are great , Seth. and I like the optimism on Nick Burdi !!!
