  1. Man This is really disheartening stuff, The worst thing now is if the Twins are in that grey area or on the fence about which direction to choose: 1: Rest AND ReHab. (which lets face it, ultimately could just dely the inevitable) 2: Have an actual surgery. It seems like those are the only options, in which i'd stess with #2 the timing and decision on the actual surgery is very carefully chosen.
  2. I'd really love to have the closest thing to RHP Braden Shipley from last year IN THIS draft. He was a great college pitcher people seemed to think he'd be only average or a 4th starter type at the next level, Now he looks like a future stud and will be in AA or AAA already. possibly a #2 and easily a good #3 starter. He was overlooked in last years draft should of been a top 8 pick. not in the teens....
  3. I WANT THE BRADEN SHIPLEY of this draft. SHipley fell to arizona d'backs last yr and was a FINE college JR. should of been a top 7 or 8 pick fell to low mid teens? I want him, HEY Jeremy Nygaaard in you're opinion who do you think is the Shipley of this draft or a few names is fine? Maaaybe Hoffman?
  4. The beauty of Mr Stohs projection is: By late May or Mid- June all of: Kyle Gibson, Michael Tonkin, Aaron Hicks, Josmil Pinto and poooosssibly Miguel Sano Can all be call-ed up on to replace the injuries and guys not producing. Like possibly Parmelee or Fryer or Mastrio and so on and on. Plouffe!?!?
  5. agreed seth agreed. im 100% in agreement with Mr. Stohs! Also Aaron Hicks will be in AAA Rochester for like a 90% certainty people! 1 of Mastro or Pressly would have to be Injured for him to make the team. Jared Burton might have to take over closers role this year, Perkins injury coming, Also I think NOBODY is talking about health right now, so i think if we're as healthy as we were some of last year and most of 2012 we will win about 77 - 78 games. But if we're not healthy this year, This is what I forsee , I think we win about 67-69 games this year. I see 2 or 3 people in the bullpen getting hurt, 1 of Hughes or Nolasco "not holding up" and One of the young bats going down with injury. Its just all realistic scenerios. Look at Oakland like 3 of the last 4 years, They've had 8-12 of their 40 man on the Injury list constantly and last year THEY STILL made the post-season. Maybe we can be more like Oakland in 2015.
  6. Wow. I'm shocked and saddened by this news. Really the only thing on Everyone's mind is the health for You Mr. Ryan. Health and Family come first. Baseball is a distant second. Get Well TR! Thank goodness it is confined to the neck! From my family Thoughts and prayers you're way.
  7. THorpe at 17 , is probably not going to end up being 6'1" ..... Don't you think closer to 6'3" ? I do. Even if he is 6'1 or 6'2 ...thats juuust enough. Thorpe would probably be a late 1st round pick or 2nd/3rd round pick this upcoming draft. THorpe is really exciting , I currently have him at about #9 in our system behind Berrios and Pinto guys like that.. I think Thorpe could rise like Tyler Robertson did a few years ago, only assuming he keeps his weight down and stays healthy, obviously should turn out at least a bit better. Not Clayton Kershaw but maybe Travis Wood or Tommy Glavine lite. Exciting stuff.
  8. He is a father, which is great, but interesting that Mauer's Twins and Buxton's first child are almost the same age.... Just a cool random thought.... I hope Bux realizes he's got a looong way to go , a lot of hard work left yet to do, well for at least 1 more year anyway.
  9. I'd say 72-90 is a little harsh. I think 74-88 or 75-87 is more like it. Mauer will not OPS greater than .900 BUt should be stronger than .775. FInd the happy-medium to that. The 2nd half of the season the Twins have a chance to be pretty good, With guys like Hicks, Pinto and Arcia all up from AAA full time and maybe juuuust getting his feet wett one Miguel Sano.... IF this is all true i'd expect our offense to be at least very fun to watch the fina 2-3 months of the season if nothing else. Dozier needs to build up a batting average a little bit, would greatly help.
  10. THanks for the question hobbs. Absolutely! I would of started him in AAA Rochester if he mashed in ST, if he didn't hit very well in Spring Trainging I would of sent him to AA New Britian. Hicks could of hitt better than he did in ST, and I still would of sent him to the minors. Spring Training stats = almost nothing as they are a tiny sample size against inferrior competition (often times) Plus if i recall, Hicks hitt 4 HR's in spring, 3 of them in one wind blown game. Hopefully the Twins have learned their lesson. Now looking ahead to 2014, Where will Hicks start now AA , AAA ? It has to be the latter , but you JUST HOPE that his confidence isn't completely shattered and we have Joe Benson 2.0 on our hands. Thats why i couldn't believe the lack of patience with so many people on here, regarding Hicks and other young players... when we weren't going to compete last year anyways. Little frustrating. I think Dozier was slightly rushed, and possibly Arcia, although we've handeled that much better.
  11. Hicks , assuming last season's massive over-rush didn't completely ruin him, will one day be an adequate or quality big leaguer. It might be 3 years from now, but it will happen eventually. I tried to preach patience with him this time last year, but several fans ended up getting their wish (big league debut) instead of Rochester debut and it went as i predicted horribly wrong. If you go back to this time last year, even after the fraudulent Spring-training and send him to AAA rochester i guarantee you he would of hitt better than .222/.317/.333 It really is all too bad, really.
  12. I am proud to say that literally NO Twins fans liked the Wilson Ramos for Matt Capps trade as just pondering that again makes you sick to you're stomach.
  13. ^ I call bs on that. I was sort of pleasanty surprised at the return we netted for Revere too, but that was more an indictement on the Twins FO and all the recent botched trades before that; than Ben Revere, the player himself. A lot of the experts and anayltics / SABR guys (even Gleeman) were never really high on Revere, because pitchers can continue to challenge him and throw right down the middle often times with little to no fear, Because of Ben's lack of power. But Revere will be a VERY valuable player for the Phills for Years to come. SPEED + CONTACT ability = UNDERRATED commodity when you do it at the Rate Revere does it. And Trevor May will likely be another quad A pitcher in a loooong line of Twins failures. Hindsight is a bitch, but clearly the Twins would be much better off if they could reverse that trade. THE ONLY and i mean the only trades i approve of in the last dozen: Are: #1 Span for Meyer #2 Butera for Sulbaran #3 Doumit for Gilmartin I understand and am content with the Johan, Morneau, and even Liriano trades. But all the rest (about 8-10 more moves) were more or less pathetic on the part of the Twins. Especially the Gomez to Hardy - Hardy to nothing debacle.
  14. Thrylos, Maybe you like the Twins mlb.com list better than BA's Twins specific list, and thats fine. But you can't possibly think their accumiltive lists are better than BA's or even John Sickles' or BP's. Look no further than the Texas Rangers (mlb.com) Mayo list. Its atrocious! Its soo so bad. Jorge Alfaro ranks #1 the catcher while Rougned Odor the clear cutt #1 ranks #4. Luke Jackson, who if you talk to ANY ranger fan, is in the top 5 or 6 amongst Ranger spects........ HE RANKS 10th !?!?! ....and 1 spot behind Cody Buckel who didn't just fall off of the planet earth he fell out of the entire universe last year. and Jackson is pretty clearly one of their top 2 pitching prospects. Even in the back half OF Nick WIlliams who ranks 17th is clearly better than about 5 or 6 guys ahead of him. I respect Jonathan Maya for all the work he does, but pretty clearly they are just lazy in getting the lists correct. I know its not for a lack of updates, because Michael Choice who the Rangers just aquired from Oak. ranked #4 And the Twins' Sean Gilmartin ranked back half who they just got for Doumit from the Bravos. It really is pathetic and they could pay me $10 a day to do a much better job; As far as proper lists go among all 30 teams. And i'm serious. BTW, I respect you're opinion thrylos a ton, on Twins daily. As i think ur one of the most knowledgable twins fans. Just wanted to be clear.
  15. RE: Crickets chirping And I expected them to (allllll off-season long) I didn't figure we'd sign Nolasco and Hughes both. One of them ? Sure. I was actually one of the fans, in the mindset that, I was rather HOPING they'd spend less than 78-82 Million for the upcoming season's roster/ total payroll. In that for the 2015 season they'd make some big FA splashes next off-season. Like a SS & outfielder or 3B and Catcher or something; Plus maybe a front-line starter. (Homer Bailey? B. Morrow?) (granted it would of been sweet to net Salty this yr at 3 yr for $ 24/27 Million , he got $21.) So what the Twins have done, to this point, including the Doumit for Gilmartin swap and bringing in Kubel , Bartlett , Kurt Suzuki and maaaaybe 1 of M. Guerrier, Johan Santana or Yuk-Sin Moon ... Blows by far, my widest range of expectation for the 2014 season. I think they are by far and away 'treating the fans well' for supporting the team the last 3 seasons. We must remember, 2015 / 2016 are the years to realisticly compete NOT 2014.
  16. Pinto not ranking inside the top 10 , has got to be my biggest suprise. but i'd really like to know BA's top 20. My guess: 1. Bux 2. Sanow 3. Meyer 4. Stewart 5. Berrios (!) 6. Rosario 7. Thorpe (!) 8. May (?♪♪♥ ♀§Φ☺§♀☻!) 9. Santana (suprise) 10. Polanco ---- ? - Kepler ? - Harrison ? - Pinto ? - Eades ? - A.B. Walker -- some combo of Sulbaran, Gilmartin, Melotakis , Turner and either Jorge or Goodrum. (as many of you know my list is quite a bit different) But BA's list >>>> than mlb.com Jonathan Mayo's list with no Thorpe or Pinto or Walker inside the TOP 20 !?!?!?!? [crazy eyes]
  17. Come on Twins Terp, everybody really knows the Twins were behind The Ramos' kidnapping, members of Bill William Smith's camp could not put up with Ramos squandering Capps any longer in production post trade. Conspiracy theorists have already ruled the Twins organization as the most probable to blame going behind Wilson's back , in fear of all the media attention it was getting the predator(s) gave up Wilson a little sooner than expected after realizing their was no way to change his name and VISA to bring him back into the Twins organziation as a 21 year old 3B prospect in single A. All the While advocating or pushing "death by strangulation" of Wilson Henry Ramos. As they couldn't come up with a body that had similar facial features and such a broad chest/ frame and shoulder line in time.
  18. GREAT GREAT GREAT MOVE !!! The Best move TR & co. has made of the off-season (i feel Nolasco was given either 1 more yr. or 1 more million per year than he should have) I remember the 2011 draft vividly; they were all set to take either P Sean Gilmartin or SS Joe Panik at pick #29 after someone was selected at #26, that was not a Twins target. Then promptly the Braves take Gilmartin at @ #27 and the Giants take Panik at #28...so the Twins were left with ...................wait for it............................ SS / 2B Levi Michael UNC. OUCH I remember thinking.... I really like Gilmartin, mainly because the Twins were high on him in that draft, and he was said to be a talent, taken as high as pick #11 or mid teens that year with helium before the draft, it was a semi-suprise he fell to late 20's as it was. Granted, so far it hasn't exactly worked out for him, as the Braves seem to be down on his stuff, as they were w/ diamond) Although he has a low 90's / high 80's fastball , to me, when healthy, his upside is superior to Albers and is at least a rich man's Scott Diamond. I know the minor leaguer's across baseball pretty well. i usually have a top 300-500 prospect list every year in all of the MLB. I'm not as thorough and logical of the Twins system as Seth Stohs and J. Nygaard and others....but As far as other teams minor leaguers go i'd like to think i'm more than competent.
  19. meh. I wonder if Pelfrey had any other ACTUAL offers on the table. I know for fact, there were other teams in contact with him. But I"m willing to venture that he didn't have any other actual offers out there, Thats the Boras magical wand wavering over our FO heads'. UGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MEH i'm just about ready to watch every 4/5 games for the upcoming yr. on the games the big "pelf" doesn't start in.
  20. THis signing has me thinking the Twins now obviously Prefer, Pelf to Correia.... And i think Correia will likely be dealt with maybe Doumit or Duensing and maybe a top 10-15 minor league talent for either a good pitching prospect or more likely a Good relief pitcher 7th/ 8th inning guy. (sean marshal ?)
  21. Giving Garza 5 years would be assanine, FOR ANYBODY. Best farm system in the game? Try 2nd or 3rd .....maybe 4th or 5th. Chicago Cubs > than ours 1. Javier Baez = or > than Miguel Sano 2. Kris Bryant ....Very good 1B. 3. Albert Almora 4. Jorge Solar 5. Arismendy Alcantara 6. CJ Edwards / NieL Ramirez ..a bunch others.
  22. I think Homer could be had for Rosario, and Trevor May. + maybe a minor 3rd piece.
  23. If Oakland would be happy with Fien and Niko Goodrum as the starting pieces (2 of 3) with the third being any C+ type prospect. I would be happy to get him. I WOULD NOT be willing to give up Eddie Rosario for BA!
  24. RE: in reply to Doc Freiermuth's post above ^ If the front office is already convinced Hendriks is a quad A (AAAA) pitcher, than Anybody below Meyer and maaaaaaybe Lewis Thorpe and Kohl Stewart in the minor league system can be kissed good-bye in 2-6 years. On waivers. I mean it might be an indictment on the coaching staff : R. Anderson, Mintz, Cuellar more than anything but Hendriks dominated not just low a and high a (which hardly matters) he was flat out stellar at times in AA and AAA. THAT in and of itself, suggests he should be a more than servicable starting pitcher, if 1) Have the coaches that know how to utilize him & 2) Said player stays healthy Based off his arsenal, and control, mound presence and all that. It was a long shot he was ever going to be more than a #3 starter......but HE SHOULD have been a decent #4 and I still think will be a #5 / #4 or at least a valuable swing-man... a la Swarzak.
  25. The Houston Astros + about 25 other clubs. Would scoop up Hendriks; The 'stros in a jiffy. Hendriks will be claimed within 72 hours. I'm not happy with this move at all. Hendriks > than a lot of people ..... Fryer, Kris Johnson, and about 3 others i would have taken off before Hendriks.
