  1. I agree that Dozier got a legitimate shot. I was referencing the comments Gardy made, even going back to August/September of 2011 that he wanted Dozier up and starting with the MLB team. I heard that echo when I read Gardy's comments about Hicks. My point was that Gardy could be wrong about how ready Hicks is, and even if Hicks is ready, TR could overrule him on the decision.
  2. I could have sworn that Gardy said a lot of the same stuff before last ST about Dozier.
  3. Not sure why we feel the need to rush to Blackburn's defense here. I was under the impression that the main topic of these forums was baseball, and if the subjects of the thread are Nick Blackburn and baseball, there's not a whole lot of positive things to say.
  4. Impossible, Mauer doesn't play a middle infield spot and doesn't bunt enough to be a 2 hitter.
  5. Don't believe that guys only use PEDs after they've left the Twins. Papi may well have been on the juice before he left. If Hardy was juicing in this era of testing he probably would have been caught.
  6. The Blue Jays didn't think so.
  7. Signing Correia was spending money just to spend money.
  8. Nishioka didn't have anything to do with the Hardy trade. The plan was always to have T-Nish play second. Hardy was traded because Gardy didn't like him.
  9. Also from Sid's column: "Twins have reached out to free agent pitchers Rick Reed, Bob Wells and Jesse Orosco."
  10. The Twins are setting themselves up again for another bad season. If they lose 95-100 games again, they'll have all the same reasons next offseason to not spend money as they do now. No free agents want to come here. You can't pick up 20 wins by throwing money at free agents. We're going to fix this the right way, from the ground up. Lather, rinse, repeat. Next year's free agent class isn't any better, BTW.
  11. It's ironic how Mackey put it in that article - the Twins won't overpromise and underdeliver in 2013. I know he's referring to the product on the field, but overpromising and underdelivering is exactly how TR has handled this offseason.
  12. Thank you. I know we all love Jack for what he did for the Twins in 91. We all love that he's from here. But no one can tell me that Morris is a slam-dunk hall of famer. He's borderline. And in my opinion, anybody who is a borderline hall of famer is not a hall of famer. That includes Blyleven as well.
  13. No way Sano follows the same path Mauer did. The Twins are huge on defense and Mauer had no such concerns coming up through the minors.
  14. Beane isn't nearly as gunshy about trading away assets. If he was running the Twins, not only would Morneau and Willingham be traded, but Doumit and Perkins and any other Twin with trade value (can't think of any others at the moment) would be gone as well. Mauer probably would have walked a couple years ago. The A's have a terrible stadium and therefore don't need to placate the fans into showing up so that they can afford their operating costs.
  15. Biggio will get in eventually, he has the luxury of never being suspected of PED use and has the numbers to get in anyway. I think this is a case of the writers trying to differentiate between "Hall of Famers" and "First-Ballot Hall of Famers". I'm a little surprised that nobody got in. I think that the writers often feel obligated to induct at least one player every year.
  16. Kevin Correia wins the Cy Young award. Nick Blackburn wins the Viagra Comeback Player of the Year award. Joe Mauer hits 30 home runs, drives in 110, and wins another MVP. Twins pick up Nick Punto to be their starting shortstop.
  17. Piazza, Biggio, and Trammell.
  18. On Morneau, I get the idea of holding on to him until the deadline because his trade value has been low. On Willingham, I think the time to trade him is now. His track record doesn't indicate he'll be as good as he was in 2012 in 2013. His value is higher now than it's ever been.
  19. Not just season tickets, but walk-up tickets as well, especially early in the season before the team is out of it. Personally, if the Twins went all-out rebuild, I might be more inclined to go to games to "get to know 'em" again. I may be in the minority on that.
  20. Unoriginal, maybe, but bland? Don't take it so personally. I'm sure the Twins would host a minor league game at TF if it was lucrative for them to do so. They've hosted Gopher baseball games and Kenny Chesney concerts. The drawback to a one-sport facility is that when the pro team that plays there isn't in season or is on the road, there's no income to be made.
  21. I was going to say, the Twins hosted the Royals there 9 times just last year.
  22. Real life isn't like a video game or a fantasy league. Training like that would cause most real-life pitchers to blow out a rotator cuff and elbow all at the same time.
  23. Not many catchers are good enough hitters to DH when they're not catching.
  24. Positional flexibility or not, Mauer was unusually healthy last year and I don't think that will hold up. I predict he'll land on the DL at least once.
