  1. They're busy picking their jaws up off the floor after being proven 100% wrong about Correia.
  2. Gibson, Deduno, De Vries, and Hendriks are ahead of him on the SP depth chart.
  3. The Twins were pretty rock-solid from 2001-2006. The experts underrated them.
  4. It's also the reason Gardy didn't play Cuddyer in left field. He wouldn't be able to hear the CF calling him off.
  5. I want to see Pelfrey get Fielder out too, but the manager has to realize that it's a bad matchup, especially at that point in the game and especially if Duensing is going to be coming in anyway.
  6. Any cheap fringe player for Liriano would have made it at least a wash of a trade. The Twins had nothing to lose when they dumped him except for his remaining 2012 salary.
  7. What I'm hearing is that it's not WAR that needs fixing so much as the defensive metrics that go into calculating WAR. Some consistency between Fangraphs and B-R would also help. I think that most of the time you get a better picture by looking at the individual components of WAR than by smashing them all together in an amalgamated statistic.
  8. Doesn't anyone think that a guy with Correia's lengthy track record can suddenly emerge as a Cy Young candidate? Me neither. Some of it is luck and some of it is hitters who haven't seen much of him.
  9. I predict that Plouffe will not last through June with the Twins. There's nowhere else to play him, he can't be sent down, and Gardy won't tolerate him.
  10. I'm wondering where Florimon got his "defensive wizard" reputation to begin with. He's got great range and arm but I've seen far too many Casilla-like concentration lapses from him, and he definitely doesn't have the bat to compensate. I'm not real bullish on Escobar either but it's time to give him his opportunity to start.
  11. The woeful 2011 Twins went 15-2 from June 2 through 21. I wouldn't get too excited about a 9-8 start.
  12. About Hicks - Gardy doesn't have a choice but to stick with him. There are no other center fielders on the roster. Mastroianni is hurt, and do yourself a favor and don't look up Benson's numbers at Rochester. That's not a knock against Gardy, but I can't really praise him for that either. I was a little bugged by the Tyler Robertson thing. Other than that, I can't really say a whole lot of negative things about the manager thus far.
  13. Marquis got seven starts before the Twins gave him the boot.
  14. His big numbers in the WBC and spring training were against inferior pitching to what he's seeing now, so there's that.
  15. By my California math That pitch was right there Duck-fart (evidently retired by Twins braintrust)
  16. I don't think that the majority of free agent pitchers went somewhere else because the Twins knew better than to sign them. I'm all for an ironic Correia bandwagon, though. Pitch to contact, FTW!
  17. So far Florimon hasn't played himself out of the job, but then again, he never really played himself into the job either.
  18. I couldn't help laughing at Gardy's "it takes courage" quote. It made me picture every hitter in MLB besides Mauer curling up in the fetal position as soon as they had a 2-strike count.
  19. Strikeout pitchers CAN get quick outs. It's much easier for a strikeout pitcher to pitch to contact than for a contact pitcher to blow somebody away.
  20. His numbers make him not quite borderline, even without the steroid admission. I'd say he's clearly not. He sure looked like a HOFer all those times he pitched against the Twins, though.
  21. In 2008, through his first 3 games, Livan Hernandez had a 2.57 ERA. I get the feeling that this is going to be a rollercoaster and we've just started climbing the hill.
  22. Wow, Brendan Harris starting at shortstop for the LAAoA. They must be in bad shape in their middle infield.
  23. If the Twins thought that Boggs was as good of a CF option as Borbon, why would they have interest in picking up Borbon at all? I didn't hear anybody claiming Borbon was an answer... at least not to any question worth asking.
  24. I don't see how the Twins think that spinning this disaster as a "premature press release" makes them look any better than admitting that the idea was scrapped because of negative fan reaction. The Twins pay a lot of money to people to manage their PR. It would take a colossal blunder to send out a press release prematurely.
  25. Looks like the Twins are doing an about-face on this one. https://twitter.com/p_oshan/status/321724118921777152
