  1. Now there's a name I'm surprised the Twins haven't been linked to yet. Signing Chen would be the best way to avoid being #brucechenned.
  2. Why would the Twins care about the name "Bella Twins"? Are they planning on a marketing strategy using the word (in the feminine, no less) "bella"? Some kind of apparel for women line maybe? Are they planning on suing Turner for the usage of the name "Wonder Twins" on the Superfriends cartoon?
  3. Telling Swarzak and Duensing to be ready to start implies that one or more of the 5 rotation spots may be filled with starters worse than those two.
  4. My favorite Welker moment was when we all knew he was the PTBNL before he was named.
  5. People have options on what kind of entertainment to spend their money on. If the Twins are terrible, and the TF experience + All Star game isn't worth the price to a person otherwise, I fully support the cancelling of one's season tickets, and I'd never rip in to someone for being a fairweather sports fan. I like baseball, but I'm not obliged to like the product that's available to me. I was shopping for barbecue sauce at the grocery store and didn't like my options, so I skipped it. I still like barbecue sauce though. To the OP - welcome to the forums. I think I'm in the same boat as you, I'd like to like the Twins, but they're just not giving me any reasons to right now.
  6. Not that bad. They took a chance on Liriano and gave up virtually nothing to get him.
  7. I'd bid a dollar for the giant flashing milk jug.
  8. I bet Carlos Silva isn't busy.
  9. I get what you're saying, but by that logic the Twins could have started at 2/10. I think there's a contract above 5/90 that the Twins could have started at if they were shooting for something they knew Mauer would turn down. Fairness in conversation - this may not be accurate anyway. Shapiro says the Twins offered to sign Mauer to a 5/90 contract - who wouldn't?
  10. 5/90? If that was really the Twins' original offer, it's an insult, and also the Twins really negotiated badly if they caved from 5/90 to 8/184.
  11. Well, for one thing, if you trade the guy you dropped 10-12 million on, the team you trade him to picks up a prorated portion of that money.
  12. He changed his name to Chris Colabello?
  13. Heyman says the Twins are in talks with AJ! http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/writer/jon-heyman/24223934/twins-talking-to-aj-pierzynski-about-a-return-to-minnesota As a backup, I like it.
  14. If A.J. was willing to be a backup at this point (and he ought to be), I'd absolutely sign him on a 1 or 1+option deal to back up Pinto and bat primarily against tough right-handers.
  15. The Twins need depth at the position. They seem to have decided that Escobar is a utility infielder and they don't have any prospects at shortstop that could otherwise challenge Florimon, so I'm OK with this. I'd rather they sign a shortstop that's an obvious upgrade over Florimon, but whatever.
  16. Obviously the Twins are well-respected in inner circles, but this makes me wonder what Sosnick would say about any other team if you asked him about them. I bet he has glowing reports about other teams as well, and those he doesn't care for he probably wouldn't trash down anyway.
  17. I don't think anybody here is in love with Santana or Jimenez. But those guys are leaps and bounds better than anybody the Twins have, and they're available. You can hold on to the money until next offseason I guess, but there's no guarantee that anybody better will be available then.
  18. Nick, there's another side to TR's comment about there being no shortcuts that you didn't address - yes, he's implying that the Twins are not going to become a contender by signing a load of free agents, but he's also hinting that he expects the team to be bad for a while longer. Free agency is the Twins' best chance to improve in the short-term, as they don't have a whole lot of tradeable assets and their prospect "wave" is at least a season or two away.
  19. I have to disagree with you. They do play a children's game for a living, but they are asked to grow up in many important ways that have nothing to do with sports. They're adults and should be expected to act as such, on the field/court or off. I'm not going to cut sports players slack for acting like meatheads just because they play sports.
  20. Kubel's 2012 and 2013 seasons both look like outliers to me, on opposite ends of the spectrum. At best, Kubel is a good strong-side platoon bat with little to no defensive value. Those kind of guys are available very cheaply. The only reason to bring Kubel back would be nostalgia, and if that's what the Twins want, they should try and talk Thome into coming out of retirement before calling Kubel.
  21. The Twins don't like platoons, so Kubel is a bad fit.
  22. 115 Ks in 134 games. Where's the pukey emoticon?
  23. We have evidence that Ortiz used PEDs while he was in Boston. What we don't know is when he started. I don't believe that Ortiz went to Boston and the Red Sox culture corrupted him into a PED user. Would you be surprised if evidence came to light that he used PEDs while he was a Twin? I wouldn't.
  24. It should be obvious what they need to become a playoff team - starting pitching, both on the front-line and depth in the minors. They need a couple good pitchers right now, as well as more SP talent in the high minors so they're not demolished because someone reverts to Blackburn-levels or needs Tommy John surgery.
