  1. So we're arguing over what % of the Twins three-season dumpster fire is attributable to Ryan? I'm going to say somewhere between 1 and 99%.
  2. The Ramos, Hardy, and Garza/Bartlett trades were all awful and I have a hard time deciding which one is the worst. When the Twins brought back Bartlett this offseason, the Strib wrote about how Gardenhire didn't want Bartlett included in the trade with the Rays. I wonder if he was bothered that they traded Garza.
  3. Good luck to John, but Kevin Gorg is a juggernaut in this competition. I'm predicting a Gorg vs. Gorg in the final.
  4. I think Bartlett can be as good of a corner outfielder as Chris Herrmann... who played 25 games in a corner outfield spot last year. Blech.
  5. Gibson has to get a long look in the majors this year. Did you know he's only one month younger than Worley? Whatever a player's prime age is, Gibson is rapidly approaching it, and there's not much else he can do in the minors to show that he's ready.
  6. The Twins are going to have to cut bait with at least one of these guys, whether it's in spring training or a couple months into the season. They'll need to open up a spot for Gibson sooner than later IMO.
  7. Just making the point that being able to hit home runs at Target Field at one time doesn't mean the Twins should keep him around forever.
  8. No, Willingham isn't Thome, but the reasons for not bringing them back are pretty much the same.
  9. Thome was pretty good at hitting home runs at Target Field too, maybe we should bring him back. But then again, he's old, and kept getting hurt.
  10. Other than the loss of a pick, I could use all the same reasons to argue the Twins shouldn't have signed Nolasco. He doesn't make them good enough to justify handing out that kind of contract when the team isn't going anywhere right now anyway.
  11. Hopefully the Twins are in on Drew and this is another situation like 2009 when the Twins kept insisting they were good with the Harris/Buscher monster at third base until they signed Joe Crede on Feb. 21st.
  12. Whether Pinto beats out Fryer and Herrmann in spring training is irrelevant. Pinto's too important a prospect to the Twins to have him as a backup catcher. I know that they keep talking about having Pinto learn under Suzuki and Steinbach and Mauer, but I don't believe it. They'll have him as the #1 catcher in AAA before they have him as the backup in the majors.
  13. Where Willingham would like to finish out his career shouldn't be a consideration.
  14. I suppose so, but Buxton will have to lead the league in BA and OBP and win a Gold Glove. Which pose will be used for Buxton's Target Field statue? Whose hat will he wear for the HOF? I'm excited about the kid too, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
  15. The fireworks during the national anthem bother me as well. They're really tacky.
  16. Why would you DH Pinto if his defense needs work? Don't the Twins have other DH options, and wouldn't that mean the Twins would have to carry a 3rd catcher anyway if their 2nd catcher is also a part-time DH? Mauer as a DH for a few games, I get, he's a once in a lifetime catcher. Now that Mauer's not a catcher anymore, I don't want the Twins to have any catchers DHing... but I guess we'll have to wait and see on that.
  17. Flush handles on the urinals. I don't want to touch that thing.
  18. I don't believe that the Twins will keep Pinto as a backup. He's going to be the guy, or he's going to be in the minors. They keep saying he's got defense to work on and Suzuki can be a good mentor, but if Pinto isn't the starter he won't get enough playing time to hone his craft. He can work with Suzuki and Steinbach in spring training. I predict that if Suzuki starts game 1, Herrmann or Fryer (or both) will also be on the roster.
  19. http://minnesota.twins.mlb.com/news/article/min/kurt-suzuki-wont-try-to-be-joe-mauer-behind-the-plate-for-minnesota-twins?ymd=20140203&content_id=67393354&vkey=news_min Bollinger says that (according to Terry Ryan) Suzuki is the favorite to be the starting catcher for the Twins with Pinto, Herrmann, and Fryer competing for the backup role. Obviously there's something fishy here because if Pinto isn't the starter, he'll be in AAA as the starter. A Suzuki/Herrmann/Fryer catching corps makes me and also *pukey* Is TR trying to send a message to Pinto that he hasn't earned his spot yet? The offense looked ratty enough before potentially taking Pinto out of the equation.
  20. Win 1 playoff game.
  21. Not aggressive enough, IMO. The Twins needed offensive help and Ryan didn't go after that.
  22. The Twins already have a prime opportunity for platooning with Kubel and... anybody else. We'll see how much use Gardy makes of it, but I'm worried that Kubel will get far too many ABs against lefties again.
  23. To an extent OPS with RISP isn't just about luck when using it as a team statistic. I bet that Joe Mauer was more likely to be the runner in scoring position in those situations than the hitter at the plate.
  24. I don't think anyone is going to buy more tickets to Twins games this year to see Matt Guerrier unless they're immediate relatives of his.
  25. I don't know all the rules, but I'm pretty sure the Twins can't trade Rosario while he's suspended.
