  1. Other teams are not going to sell the farm for a hot-hand Suzuki and ignore his career stats up to this point. You can discuss a new contract with him after the season... or go after another FA catcher. NBD.
  2. I like Arcia as an offensive player, but I'm pretty sure he's destined to DH. He looks like Delmon Young out there. Maybe he can improve a bit, but he's never going to be a defensive asset.
  3. Happy birthday to Yogi who turned 89 on Monday. "Hey Boo Boo, it's like deja vu all over again."
  4. None of this would be necessary if the Twins hadn't painted themselves into a corner regarding their center field situation. Hicks should have been sent to AAA weeks ago with instructions about what he needed to work on to be called back up.
  5. Papi was very good here from 98-02. He had some injuries and missed some time but when he played he was very good.
  6. If Parmey continues to hit, I'll bet the Twins will stash Ozzie at AAA. I know I'm in the minority opinion on this, but Ozzie needs more time in the minors anyway. He hasn't really hit well and his outfield defense might be worse than Colabellosie's. Willinghammy... eh, I guess you cross that bridge when you come to it. I wouldn't be surprised if he's eventually put on the 60-day DL, but if not, an infielder or (hopefully) a reliever gets sent down.
  7. The whole Bartlett-super utility fiasco and now the Escobar/Santana experiments make me wonder just how concerned Gardenhire is with outfield defense. I get that the roster is limited, but infielders shouldn't be learning, on the fly, how to play the outfield in a major league game. I doubt he'd be so cavalier about an emergency situation requiring an outfielder to learn how to play the infield.
  8. My second team has always been the Oakland A's. I like the way they do business. Trading players when their value is the highest, drafting well, and finding value in fringe free agents. It's sort of the way the Twins needed to operate to be successful in the Metrodome except without the sentimentality.
  9. I could make the argument that Anderson should have lost his job already, regardless of what Worley does.
  10. If anything he got more of a chance here than he deserved. The last I saw of Vanimal he was getting clubbed around for something like 30 runs in a Spring Training game. Maybe his mechanics can work themselves out if he loses some of the David Wells-like doughiness.
  11. Laudanum abuse was rampant among baseball players in 1884. Maybe with an asterisk.
  12. How many homers could Bautistasie hit at Target Field? Could he break Maris's single-season record?
  13. Parmelee is 26... the same age that Dozier was last year when he "figured it out". Not saying Parmey is going to be a world-beater, but he went down to AAA and played very well.
  14. I know the whole 40-man roster crunch argument for not adding Parmelee but... if you don't give him the chance to prove himself this year, he's gone at the end of the season anyway. When Arcia comes back, there's a redundancy there. But Arcia has options, and based on what I saw from Ozzie before he got hurt, he should probably be spending more time at AAA.
  15. Your journey to the dark side is complete!
  16. The bullpen's a little beat up right now, it might be time to call up another reliever.
  17. Herrmann isn't going anywhere, he's one of the one and a half healthy outfielders the Twins have on their 40-man.
  18. Yeah, I left that one kind of open. Some managers have a lot of influence, and some have very little. They all have some. Maybe Ryan and Antony foisted Bartlett and Guerrier on Gardenhire, in which case he has a right to be furious.
  19. Guerrier also required a 40 man move, and the Twins didn't really need another reliever.
  20. His right to be furious correlates to the amount of influence he had on the Bartlett and Guerrier decisions.
  21. If Arcia had a setback, it seems to me that the obvious move would be to make whatever roster move they need to on the 40-man to add Guerrier (probably 60-day DL Willingham) in order to add Parmelee. Guerrier becomes a free agent, NBD. With all the roster issues this team has, more relievers is not at the top of the list. I'm trying to find a justification for the Guerrier move that doesn't include the word "nepotism".
  22. They could DL Mauer or send down a pitcher to get another player up. Parmelee's not on the 40-man but he's looking deserving right now and could play a corner outfield spot. Arcia looked very bad even before he was hurt. I guess I'd be more aggressive about making roster moves rather than waiting for a convenient time for them.
  23. Someone had to be in the lineup instead of Herrmann, I guess. I thought LEN3 said it was a foregone conclusion the Twins would make a roster move before this game. It's like they're deliberately playing with one arm tied behind their back. Edit: Just went back and saw that he said the Twins would be making a roster move after tomorrow's (today's) game. I don't know what they're waiting for.
  24. Am I going to have to start inserting *Trademark* every time I say the word Twins in conversation?
  25. To get back to the original question... because Jason Bartlett retired?
