  1. Losing 90 again wouldn't surprise me, and I do expect the Twins offense to be ratty, at best. Someone will need to explain to me how Mauer will fall off a cliff offensively, though.
  2. Hmm... I seem to recall some allegations of sexual assault against a certain Mr. Puckett. I'm not saying Knobby is a saint, but his reputation in this town has been unfairly trashed.
  3. Eh, he throws too many fastballs anyway.
  4. I know that Twins fans hate the Yankees for kicking their collective butts and inflating the cost of free agents, and that Twins fans are suspicious of imported Japanese players because of the Nishioka dumpster fire... but I'm not going to declare the Tanaka deal a disaster for the Yankees at this point. How many of you have seen him pitch? Tanaka is five years younger than Garza and six years younger than Santana - how much do you think those guys will sign for? Maybe it will turn out to be a terrible deal, and if I was a GM knowing what I know (which isn't a whole lot about scouting) I wouldn't make the deal. But if it is terrible, I think the Yankees will be OK.
  5. In the MLB world of no salary cap, "smart moves" are relative to the team that makes them. This is a smarter move for the Yankees to make than the Twins. The Yankees were smart enough not to give Cano the ridiculous money that Seattle is going to have to fork over. The opt-out after 4 years seems like a novel idea. That doesn't typically happen with MLB contracts.
  6. Hmm, it seems to me that if the Twins were serious about trading Rosario they'd want him to play 2B as much as possible. He'd have more trade value if he demonstrates he can be capable there. As a corner outfielder he doesn't really project to be a plus hitter.
  7. Wow, Castro? He had good hands but bad range by the time he was a Twin. I think Castro's defense was overrated to justify his bad offense and as an excuse to keep Bartlett in the minors.
  8. No, you're not going to get a top prospect by trading Duensing. The Twins have some other LH relief options that could take Duensing's place at a quarter of the cost, however, so the "value" would be the freed-up money + whatever player you could get.
  9. http://www.sporcle.com/games/glanzerr/mn-twins-trades Try this one - given the players involved, can you name which team the Twins made the trade with? I missed 5.
  10. I believe the Drew willing to play other positions story is just Drew and Boras trying to drum up interest and competition in what has been a quiet market for him. Nobody is going to sign him to an 8-figure deal to be a utility player.
  11. I don't think he'll have a preposterously good ST, but I predict Kris Johnson travels north.
  12. None. I've been one seat away from probably twenty or so. My brother has caught two while sitting next to me, one was a Raul Ibanez home run ball and the other was a foul ball roller tossed into the stands by the late Jose Lima. Two separate Royals vs. Twins games at the Metrodome.
  13. Too many #9 hitters and too few #9 spots in the lineup.
  14. I'm not sure I can think of another method to hold a coach accountable.
  15. I bet there's a lot of great fielding shortstops in the minor leagues that we don't hear about because their offense isn't good enough to crack a major league roster.
  16. It's a change and it also isn't a change. Even with the "spending spree", the Twins payroll is about the same as it was in 2013. They haven't actually spent more money - they just relegated more of it to the starting rotation than they have previously.
  17. Well... depending on where you rank Pelfrey among the Twins starters, he may be a 3 or even a 2. I think he's obviously a step down from Nolasco, but I'm not convinced he's worse than Correia or Hughes. My point being that the back end of the rotation still isn't all that stable.
  18. It should just be two. Neither Pinto nor Suzuki should be the DH at all.
  19. Just because Pelfrey was a better deal than Baker doesn't mean that the Twins needed to decide between one or the other. They could have signed neither, or both. I don't buy that the holdup with Baker was the 2nd year option. I think he genuinely wanted out.
  20. Sure, Doumit isn't worth his contract, but who is? $3.5 mil is a manageable sum and the Twins already had cash to spare if they wanted to spend more. Doumit was redundant, I understand, but Doumit at $3.5 mil won't kill you. It's not a bad trade as a salary dump, but "great" is an exaggeration IMO.
  21. Not sure why Doogie would care that much about the $3.5 mil to call it a "great" trade. It's not like the Twins needed to free up that money to make a big splash.
  22. I'm glad to offload Doumit, but this Gilmartin guy looks like AAA filler, another Pedro Hernandez at best. My opinion of the trade - "Meh".
  23. If Gardy had to choose between Plouffe and Valencia at 3rd, gun to his head, he'd probably pull the trigger.
  24. I'm just not a big believer in Deduno long term. He was very good for a while, but I think it was a combination of fluke and the book not being out. Diamond and Albers looked very good for a while too.
  25. I was waiting for this shoe to drop. I thought it was unusual how TR and Gardy were publically blowing kisses at a free agent.
