  1. It looks to me like Texas isn't real confident that Olt can stick at third base. His defense there has been pretty bad and he's been playing more outfield and first base.
  2. Maybe Martinez is better than Butera. Regardless, the Twins should just carry two catchers. I don't want either Martinez OR Butera on the 25-man.
  3. The main plus for Brignac is that he's not named Dozier, Carroll, Florimon, or Escobar, so when one or more of those guys flounder an adjustment can be made. Who is going to be the Twins shortstop at AAA?
  4. Batting practice is a different animal from live pitching. The BP coach is deliberately leaving the ball in a meaty part of the plate. As far as I know, PEDs don't do much to help intelligence, approach, and coordination.
  5. If we follow the pattern of the last two seasons, we go from 63 to 66 to 69. I don't think they get to 70 wins, for a few reasons - rotation is still lacking depth. Diamond is due for regression. Pelfrey is a big question mark. I expect Tommy John surgery for somebody important. Potential trades of Morneau and Willingham.
  6. Actually, outside of last year, Brignac has been a better offensive player than Florimon in the minors. His career minor league OPS (a dubious statistic, I know) is nearly 100 points better than Florimon's.
  7. He's not only a potential upgrade to Escobar, but he's also a potential upgrade to Florimon. That's not saying a whole lot, but if the Twins get the chance to pick Brignac up they should. All the rhetoric coming out of the Twins camp during the offseason is that they're in love with Florimon and he's their guy.
  8. Hopefully they can mix in some high-upside middle infielders eventually.
  9. Is Scott Erickson too busy producing movies?
  10. Pelfrey's on a 1-year deal. The Twins have less invested in him so they might beat him up a bit more than Gibson.
  11. Not every team is shopping for mid-level starting pitching. Very few should be as interested in it as the Twins.
  12. I was under the impression that this was a forum to talk about Twins baseball. One of the moderators needs to put together a comprehensive list of subtopics involving Twins baseball that we shouldn't talk about.
  13. All those guys can really pick it. If everybody else does their job, they don't need to hit.
  14. He didn't say have a solution in place, he said have had a solution in place at some point since 2004. Subtle difference.
  15. I missed the part that was positive about Ryan.
  16. Maybe my reading comprehension is off, but it sounds like Gardy and Ryan will decide when they leave, and nobody else is going to tell them.
  17. And the fans don't need to spend money on tickets just to buy them, either.
  18. I remember all the same things said about Nick Punto... who is a vastly superior player to Florimon.
  19. I don't see why the Twins couldn't bring in some waiver wire pickups or minor league free agents to compete with Florimon. The Twins shortstop cupboard is barren in the high minors, and it sounds like they're serious about moving Dozier to second base permanently.
  20. Mauer's only caught that many games once before, in 2008. He had back surgery twice in the following offseason.
  21. So we'll jump at the chance to sign Correia for two years, but with Saunders we're going to draw a line in the sand at one.
  22. The service time issue really only matters if Hicks becomes a mainstay and the Twins don't sign him to a major league contract by his last year of service. If he flops, it doesn't matter that you used up a year of service time. If he lights it up, you can sign him to a contract and you wouldn't have to worry about service time.
  23. Can we be sure that Gardy wouldn't hand Capps the closer role back?
  24. Well, we know it's a 1-year deal, and the Twins have money to spend. The Mets would have to be paying Marcum close to $20 million for this to be out of the Twins' price range.
  25. Despite going 0-8 in 2011, Kevin Slowey's still got a great win/loss ratio.
