  1. I'm not watching this game, but I noticed that Mauer was having a lot of trouble defensively. Not picking up balls cleanly, chasing after balls he needs to let the 2B get and leaving no one to cover first... I know that first base is supposed to be a pretty easy position to play, but don't take it for granted that Mauer's going to step in and be a Gold Glover there...
  2. If the Pirates claimed him off waivers, wouldn't he have to be added to their 40-man? Maybe I'm wrong, but this way they can leave him in the minors without exposing him to waivers again.
  3. If the 25 best players made the team, then Meyer would be coming north. Arcia's got options, and he plays the same position as Kubel and Parmelee (whatever that is). It's not what I would do, but to be honest Arcia hasn't lit the world on fire in ST. From what I saw of him, he's having a tough time making contact.
  4. The Twins might keep both Kubel and Parmelee and stash Arcia at AAA.
  5. Side note - can we refrain from arguing who is a better fan than whom? Looks like ChiTown beat me to that.
  6. I was expecting the offense to be bad, but after seeing this team in action I'm very concerned about the defense. Specifically Mauer. I thought it would be a smooth transition but there's going to be an adjustment period. I was surprised with how raw he was at first. Add that in with Willingham, Arcia, and Plouffe, and it could be uglier than we've seen in a long time.
  7. Just got back from Ft. Myers last night. The Twins looked awful in all four games I saw. Lots of strikeouts looking. Bad defense, and not just from the usual suspects. Mauer at first base didn't look good at all. Sloppy play by Pinto and Arcia. I'm convinced that Escobar is a better third base option than Plouffe. Willingham looks cooked. The Twins lineup isn't good enough to hide Florimon in the ninth spot. There's two or three other guys who should be batting ninth. Maybe the rotation is improved, but I don't think it's enough.
  8. I'm looking at Escobar's fielding stats at shortstop... and he doesn't have a ton of experience there, but I don't see how he's below average. Average at worst, maybe. He's definitely not Brendan Harris or T-Nish at shortstop. If he's the hitter that he's been at AAA and in spring training, then the difference offensively between Escobar and Florimon could be greater than the difference defensively.
  9. There's no way that Colabello, Kubel, and Parmelee all make the roster (especially if it results in 26 players). Right now Kubel would be the odd man out. I know there's a rumored "gentleman's agreement" between the Twins and Kubel, but I wouldn't be very happy if Parmelee was let go so that they could bring Kubel north.
  10. Gibby's just working on some things. Today he was working on hanging sliders.
  11. Correia's value is tied to his ability to chew up innings and stay relatively healthy. That value is only going to diminish as the season goes on and there are fewer innings to eat. I think the Twins have enough starters that the loss of Correia would be no big deal. It might prevent them from losing Deduno, Diamond, or Worley (if you're worried about that kind of thing). A space needs to open up for Gibson as well.
  12. I don't think the Twins should wait until the deadline to trade Correia. If it's to the Braves, that's OK with me. No team is going to look at Correia at the deadline and think he's the difference between making the playoffs or not. Whatever value he has is at its highest right now.
  13. The Yankees and Red Sox do work the count more than the Twins do, but the games are longer mostly because of longer and more frequent commercial breaks.
  14. I applaud your accuracy. Anyone in the last fifty years?
  15. Maybe this guy isn't all he's cracked up to be. It does make me wonder why the Twins have been so behind on acquiring talent from Cuba. Have they ever signed a Cuban amateur free agent?
  16. Revere for May is still a good trade IMO.
  17. The Twins have numbers. I'm not sure about the quality of those numbers. If a better option became available, they should absolutely add another starter. Saunders doesn't do anything for me, but Santana would have at least piqued my interest as a fan. If the Twins had signed Santana to a minor league deal instead of the Orioles, I wouldn't have criticized them for adding to an already crowded starter pool.
  18. I've seen that look on Gardy a lot. How many runs were the Twins down when that picture was taken? I don't think Gardy has the patience to deal with young and inexperienced players anymore, if he ever had it to begin with. Now that he's got a contract extension and the Twins have lots of minor leaguers close to making the jump, he'll have to deal with them.
  19. Gardy knows the Twins clubhouse has a reputation for having a damp dog personality. He's trying to sell to us the idea that it doesn't come from him. Some of the trades the Twins have made seem to indicate otherwise. The Hicks thing... Gardy overreacted. It was a lazy play. If Hicks had held on to the ball for a couple seconds and then flipped it, it's a non-issue.
  20. He might be physically capable of that, but no way the Twins use Sano as a DH in September. He'll have built up 6 months of rust at that point and they've got tons of DHs already.
  21. Now that we know the offensive cavalry isn't coming this year, should the Twins look harder at signing Drew?
  22. I'm disappointed but not surprised.
  23. I don't think either of them will be elite, but I don't really think Pinto will be elite either. Honestly I think the Twins should cowboy up and pay the money for Drew, but if that wasn't a possibility, a 1-for-1 swap of Pinto for either Gregorius or Owings would sound palatable to me.
  24. Sign Drew. But yeah, I'd trade Pinto for either of those guys, depending on what the additional player(s) involved would be.
  25. I think everyone here is in agreement that Ryan is not completely blameless and not 100% at fault. There were other players and factors involved, but it seems silly to me to argue over how guilty or innocent they all are.
