  1. How long will he have to stay in the minors in 2016 to push his clock back? It will be after that point. 2016 September call-up is another possibility... but by then Berrios will be close to his innings cap, and one has to bear in mind that JO is really, really short.
  2. I have a bad feeling that TR is on the phone with Scott Boras right now, haggling over a four year deal or three with an option for Pelf.
  3. If you can say that Smith made moves (mistakes) that TR would never have made, then it also follows that Smith could have made moves (successes) that TR wouldn't have. The two GMs have had different team-building approaches. If they didn't, then what would be the point of banishing Bill to Ft. Myers and re-replacing him with Ryan? We can't say for sure whether or not TR would have signed Sano. The best answer is "maybe." We know for a fact that Bill Smith outbid some other teams to sign Sano to the biggest international free agent money the Twins have ever spent. IMO, that makes Smith much less of a GM failure than he is purported to be. The spirit of the thread was not to bash TR. It was to give credit to Smith where credit is due.
  4. As long as Berrios is a pitcher, he could hurt his arm. He could be called up next June and hurt his arm, or even in Spring Training. That's always going to be a risk.
  5. I was wrong, Bill. You get all the credit for signing Miguel Sano, the best Twins hitter since Killebrew. Mistakes were made, but to a large degree you've been vindicated, and I apologize.
  6. That extra year only matters, though, if the Twins go year-to-year with him rather than sign him to a contract by then. There's also the possibilities that Berrios could be traded or *gasp collectively* flame out. The odds that the extra year will matter by the time it rolls around don't seem that high to me.
  7. Actually Plouffe leads both leagues in GIDP.
  8. Double Play King, Trevor Plouffe.
  9. Prospects are like souffles in the oven... you open up that oven door too soon and they fall apart. You've just got to be patient... when Santa TR says it's Christmas morning, then we can have our shiny new toy.
  10. No way... if you call up Berrios now he'll walk everybody. Then his confidence will be shot and he'll turn into a headcase like Hicks and be ruined forever. For-ever.
  11. Too many walks... doesn't mix up his pitches enough... he struggles to catch up when he's promoted... we want to make sure that when he's called up it's for good... Aaron Hicks...he's been getting by on trickery that might fool AAA hitters, but major leaguers would eat him alive. Nothing to do with service time though.
  12. He's not ready. Maybe a few weeks into the 2016 season. But right now, he's not ready.
  13. Hunter signed to another 1-year deal... Pelfrey signed for 3 plus an option. Nothing done about catcher, virtually ensuring Suzuki will reach his vesting option and therefore be the starting catcher in 2017.
  14. Is that Grady Sizemore? I thought for sure he was forced to retire after bilateral leg amputation.
  15. That, and three-run dingers aren't the Twins Way.
  16. When you visit the concession stands at the Trop, you can get beets and bread for free, but it takes forever to get through the line.
  17. OPS? What's that? Now be quiet... I'm trying to tune in to the Twins game on CCO.
  18. C'mon, Seth... you're an admin, lock it up if it's so redundant, or I would suggest just not reading any threads with Joe in the title. There's not a whole lot of positives to say about Joe right now, and it's a major issue.
  19. Putting aside my objections to the practice of assigning a dollar value to a player's on-field contributions for a moment. The real issue isn't the contract unless the Twins start using that as an excuse to not spend in other areas. The Twins already spent that money, whether they've signed the checks yet or not. The issue with Mauer is whether he's the best first baseman in the system, and if not, do they have the huevos to ask him to step aside for the good of the baseball team. Rod Carew is a hall-of-famer, but it probably isn't a great idea to run him out at first base because of how good he used to be.
  20. True. It just looks to me like Rosario has some significant room to grow offensively.
  21. I don't think Rosario will ever walk a lot, but I do think he has it in him to cut down on the strikeouts. From what I've seen he's a good "bad-ball" hitter and has a knack for making contact that hasn't shown up on the stat sheet yet. He's also a plus-defender which is far more than one can say about Santana. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say that I expect 2016 Eddie Rosario to be better than the 2015 version.
  22. TR's reign of terror will be over when he says it is... and at that point the torch will be passed to someone already employed by the Twins.
  23. Just to put to rest the "let's see you do a better job" argument... If I see a bad movie, am I not allowed to criticize it because I've never made one? If I have a bad experience eating out, can I have a bad opinion of the place if I've never run a restaurant myself? You don't need to be an expert in a field to identify lousy work.
  24. Personally I would have liked to see the Twins either a) make a serious effort to make this team a playoff team, or b ) sell off as much as they could to reload. I don't understand the Jepsen trade at all. If they really thought they had a shot this year, it didn't take a great scouting mind to tell that it wasn't going to be enough. And if they knew the 2015 team was a May mirage, then it doesn't make sense to trade even mid-level prospects for a veteran reliever. They could have waited until free agency and gotten two or three Jepsens without trading anything. In summation, my issue was that the Twins couldn't decide one way or another.
  25. IMO the rule 5 approach is, more than anything,TR trying really hard to get a player for nothing. The ultimate low-cost approach. IMO, you have to weigh that against the possibility of the current situation playing out. The bullpen is an unmitigated disaster, and Graham has been hidden and protected all season, in effect wasting a roster spot that could be used to make some improvement.
