  1. It's not a big mystery here. The Twins learned their lesson with Hicks each of the past two seasons. Danny Santana & Vargas enjoyed tremendous success last year after beginning the season in the minors. We will have as many as 5-6 rookies in the regular line-up/rotation at some point this year, but the only rookie to break camp is Graham because we would lose him otherwise. I promise the Twins of June & July 2015 will be markedly different from the April line-up.

  3. We already know that opening the season as the MLB CF was too much for Hicks to handle. It tanked two full seasons for him. Rather than make the same mistake with him a third time, or with Rosario or Buxton, TR & Mollie are more than willing to sacrifice Schaeffer & Robinson. Unless by some miracle either of them stakes claim to the gig, count on whoever of the minor leaguers has the hottest stick to take over by June.
  4. In 2000, Torii was sent to AAA after about 500 middling MLB AB's, and tore it up. When he came back up after that, he became a multiple All-Star. Keeping my fingers crossed for Hicks. Guys with his size, speed & strength combo, plus the capability of hitting from either side, get a couple extra chances.
  5. If we were to deal Plouffe, I would call the Dodgers and see how serious they are about moving Kemp. Trevor, Suzuki and a 10-20 prospect would help address positions of need for LA. Owing him $110mil over the next 5 years could make the a motivated seller. How big of a pain the a$$ and injury risk is Kemp? Could Dozier be a viable 3B solution if Sano can't handle it? Will our new staff be willing to roll with Pinto and a journeyman back-up behind the plate? $21.5mil/year is a lot for Kemp, but not so much when you figure Plouffe and Suzuki would cost 15-18 between them over each of the next 3 years. Sano, Pinto and other youngsters figure to make less than 10% of that.
  6. Plouffe alone is too much to give up for Betances. Besides, the Twins are loathe to part with any prospect, especially Thorpe. Nothing in Betances' history suggests that he can be anything more than he is right now. A set-up man. Finding/creating cheap set-up men has never been a problem for TR & the Twins.
  7. Hicks played 4 full season plus his draft year in the minors before he opened with the big club. In those years, he NEVER displayed the talent and dominance that Buxton and Sano exhibited regularly. If they're physically fit and eager to go, there is no reason not to let them develope at the big league level. These are elite talents, and are up to the challenge. Santana - SS Buxton - CF Mauer - 1B Vargas - DH Arcia - RF Plouffe - LF/3B Sano - LF/3B Suzuki - C Dozier - 2B
  8. I'm gonna go completely outside of the box and offer Jim Thome. Liked & respected by everyone, Hall of Fame credentials and spent numerous years in the dugout as DH for a diverse mix of successful skippers like Mike Hargrove, Charlie Manuel, Ozzie Guillen & yes, Ron Gardenhire. I'll bet he could put together a talented staff of supporting coaches from his Rolodex as well.
  9. In a word, Ozzie! Fiery and someone to relate to our young Latino core of prospects.
  10. Hopefully, Dozier will be batting in Atlanta or San Francisco!
  11. Alright. Here's my primary beef with Dozier. He's 27 years old with nearly 1400 AB's under his belt, yet he can't seem to get it through his thick hair that his job is to facilitate runs, not yank homers. Yes, he can jump all over the ball up & in. But everyone knows it now. He gets a steady diet of pitches out over the plate and still tries to turn on everything, even with runners in scoring position! It's happened repeatedly all season and I'm done. .280 with half the HR's & K's, he'd be my favorite player. But as he is now, can't stand him!
  12. He'll never be worth more than he is right now. With Santana, Escobar, Nunez, Florimon, Polanco & Rosario all able to step in, he's not that difficult to replace. Hell, even Levi Michael is finally playing like a 1st rounder! Get Dozier through waivers and see what the Giants or somebody will offer.
  13. Surprised Stewart jumped Meyer, and May didn't jump more. Good looking list though.
  14. The Twins should actively target the Dodgers with Suzuki. Offense from their catchers is non-existent, and they have a slew of interesting prospects. Maybe Suzuki and Duensing or another bullpen arm would make them listen on Joc Pederson.
  15. Santana will be the everyday SS before THIS season ends. Dozier will be a trade chip by next year.
  16. Can we assume the pitch to the wrist that Byron took the other night is the reason he's been out of the line-up for the past two days? Anyone heard? My hope is that he is in route to Connecticut, but I'm not counting on it.
  17. Does it come as a major surprise to anyone that the Twinshave struggled offensively under Tom Brunansky’s tutelage? Just look at the numbers. Bruno was a career .245 hitter, who struck out once in every5.1 AB’s. With his guidance over thepast year and a half, the Twins have managed to hit at a robust .244 clip, while whiffing once every 4.2 AB’s. I understand few great hitting instructors were all-starplayers. But as I recall Bruno’s career, his philosophy was to swing hard at strikes and try to pull everything. Presumably he’s expanded on that thought, butto what avail? When Gardy gets let go, I hope Mollie is given free reign topick his own staff.
  18. Does anyone have any insight on the Twins advance scouting? Do they use a service of some kind or do they employ their own staff? I may be grasping at straws, but it seems like we've been victim quite often to marginal pitchers shutting us down and average hitters lighting us up. I can't help but wonder if we're being consistently out thought, and if it isn't in part due to poor advance scouting. Just curious if anyone has any opinion.
  19. 0-5 in game #2. The guy's a bust! What a waste of a pick and nearly $4mil! Fire the entire scouting department.
  20. Nick Gordon, 4-5 with a walk and double in his debut. Let the, 'time to move him up' talk begin.
  21. Not at all. I don't care what he brings to the clubhouse, he brings nothing to the field.
  22. Kubel has gotta go next. He whiffs about every other AB, has shown no power or run production, plus he's a liability on the bases and in the field. I don't care if we have to dredge up some AAA lifer to play OF, as long as they can play defense and put the ball in play.
  23. No Arcia in the 'Wings line-up tonight. Motown bound?
  24. I think you can afford to let Arcia get going everyday at Rochester, until he forces your hand. The BoSox are getting desperate for OF offense. Maybe if Kubel is still hitting in a couple of weeks, he could pry someone from their deep farm system. For some season, I've always been a fan of Deven Marrero.
  25. I guess Correia's conserving pitches, at least. They're hitting everything he throws up there.
