  1. I don't think it matters if Kepler is at AA or AAA. They just need to make sure he plays OF everyday. No more 1B! We're set there. Let him keep raking and building his confidence, then give him a cup of coffee in September. No real reason to make any decisions on him before next spring.
  2. Would love to see the Twins make a move on Sanchez. We'd have to be sellers though, IMHO. Maybe they could be suckered into giving him up for Escobar & Pelfrey. Their MI certainly isn't lighting it up.
  3. I don't have a problem with him getting run, and wasn't aware of any history with the ump. But, ...Hicks didn't check his swing.
  4. I am getting educated today. Essentially then, the O's would need to decide whether an offer of Arcia & another is worth more to them than finishing 2015 with Weiters & O'Day plus a #30-35 pick next June. Either way, they could resign one or both in the off-season and forgo he draft pick.
  5. For good reason. Jepsen has as weak a K rate as our current choices. Jaso is an older, slower version of Chris Hermann. A little better with stick, but worse with the leather. I might give up the Vavra brothers for them, but that's about it.
  6. Thanks for the clarification. Don't you think it unlikely (I do) that the O's would give Weiters a QO at $16mil? I think he'd almost certainly accept a doubling of his salary. With his recent history and overall track record, I think his best hope on the open market is a 3-4 year deal around $10mil/year. Unless of course, he goes on an absolute tear over the next 12 weeks.
  7. I confess, I'm not up to date on the compensation guidelines. But if O'Day, an 8-year vet who makes $4.25mil this year will get $16mil next year, what will 7-year vet Weiters get after making $8mil this season?
  8. Over the past 2 1/2 years, Weiters has only played in 208 games with 30- HRs & and average below .250. Not sure that he gets a qualifying offer, and how much draft compensation he warrants with those numbers. O'Day may have more value in that regard. From the Orioles standpoint, can they get more value from a second or third round pick or two than they can from Arcia and say, Jake Reed or Zach Jones?
  9. How about Arcia & one of the A/AA fireballing relievers for impending FA's Matt Weiters & Darren O'Day? Shores up a couple of weak spots for the Twins without being too costly. Arcia still has enough upside for the O's, who face a major off-season retooling. Apologies to those who hate these trade proposal threads. But I live in southern Iowa. Where the hell else can one confer with dialed in Twins fans about these ideas?
  10. Hildenberger is pitching for Ft. Meyers tonight, so obviously he moved up from C.R.
  11. As far as prospects go, we know there is no way they all pan out. The Twins know these players better than anyone. They know who they can trade and who they can't. If a few of them and Gibson or Arcia can bring a Tuliowitzki and/or a Lucroy, then you gotta do it. The well isn't gonna suddenly dry up in the farm system. Only Buxton, Stewart, Gordon & Jay were Top 10 selections. Everyone else came from diligent scouting and development. That ain't changing any time soon for the Twins.
  12. I'd give up Gibson in a heartbeat (along with D. Santana.) I just don't trust Kyle yet. May would slot back into Gibson's spot, with Berrios and Taylor Rogers waiting in the wings if someone falters or gets hurt. Don't forget, this winter is rife with FA starting pitching. A contending team with a pitcher-friendly ballpark could draw some interest when the snowflakes start to fall.
  13. Did they even mention Dozier's name before the ball was leaving the yard? Too busy talking about players who weren't even still in the game.
  14. Would Jonathon Papelbon be worth a look as an 8th inning guy? He's owed half of $13mill for this season and his $13mil 2016 option vests if he finishes 19 more games this year. Clearly, he wouldn't accomplish that with Perkins getting the saves, but would probably accept a trade if the option was guaranteed. Seems like the Twins could get him for next to nothing if we eat the salary, but the Phil's would require a hefty return if we made them pay the bulk. Is either scenario desirable? I'd love to see a boost to the pen going down the stretch. $18-20mil for a year and a half is huge, but adding his arm for a minimal return could be sweet.
  15. Well no, basically the #6, #12 & #13 prospects from one of the top 2-3 rated farm systems in the game, plus a just turned 24-year old who already has 36 MLB HR's. It may not be what the Crew wants, but it's not snot! Seems fair for a 29-year old one-term AS catcher and well traveled 33-year old reliever.
  16. Is this ridiculous enough? Brewers get; Oswaldo Arcia - young, slugging LH OF (reunite him with kid brother, the Crew's #1 prospect) AB Walker II - young, RH slugging OF (hometown boy for the fan base) Stuart Turner - young, defensive-minded backstop who still has offensive potential Kohl Stewart - young, strong armed RH SP with 1st round pedigree Twins get; Jonathan Lucroy Francisco Rodriguez
  17. Trading Hunter would be viewed by the fan base, the team, the pool of MLB players & Torii as a betrayal. Because it would be a betrayal. He has realistically done everything and more that he was brought on board to do, except retire as a Twin. From his signing PC last winter until today he has been quite clear about his intentions. He has held up his end, no way TR doesn't hold up his. This wouldn't be the same as giving Thome a shot at the post-season to end his run. Torii will go out on his own terms.
  18. I get your point. I'm just not sure I agree for two reasons; First, Tyler Clippard is not Matt Capps. He's got better stuff and a much longer track record. Plus he's already proven his worth in the more offensive driven, DH utilizing, American League. Secondly, I think the Twins have already moved past Arcia as a building block to the future. I understand not calling him up this week with the All-Star break looming. But if he's not up Thursday with the roll he's been on, that is a clear signal the Twins have lost faith in him. Seriously, there are no AB's for him with the big club at OF/DH because he's blocked by Hunter, Sano, Rosario & Hicks? Give any of those four, or Plouffe, or Mauer a day off and a spot opens for Oswaldo. They could all start 5-6 games per week. If they don't feel he can help now with the way he's swinging the stick, then they never will. Now with all that being said, you're probably right about Arcia being too much to give up for an impending FA reliever. But I do think he and Plouffe are the two most valuable assets the Twins would consider moving.
  19. How about Arcia for Clippard? Would that be enough, or would a minor-league arm need to go too? Anyone outside our top 15 or so might be worth it.
  20. Threw 5 consecutive pitches to Mauer at 97mph of higher. Couldn't we have been a bit more aggressive in signing him? Texas is on the hook for all of his salary exceeding the league minimum. I presume some kind of bonus was offered by the Tigers and/or others to sign.
  21. I'm in the 'trade Plouffe' corner. It's gonna happen in the off-season at the latest. Pittsburgh is ripe for plucking. Let's see who we can get.
  22. Kipnis for sure deserved it more. Altuve and Dozier are a wash. No complaints.
  23. Harrison out in Pittsburgh, 4-6 weeks. Plouffe looking more and more attractive to them. I like Elias Diaz, but I like Reece McGuire even more.
  24. Sano is the Twins future at 3B. I'm not so concerned about a playoff run in 2015, as I am about 2016 and beyond. We've still got Escobar & Nunez, who will enable us to spoon-feed Sano at 3B for the rest of the season. There are about $90mil reasons why 1B is not an option going forward. We have a logjam of OF candidates that are, or are nearly ready. It would be folly to condemn Miguel to a DH role at 22-years old, with the talent he possesses. We gave Plouffe 4 years to become an average (at best) contributor at the Hot Corner. Sano warrants at least 80 games.
  25. Suzuki in the #8 spot. Hallelujah!!! Finally a spot befitting his offensive talents.
