  1. Trade Plouffe to the Pirates for #10 & 11 prospects, Mitch Keller & Elias Diaz. Plouffe shores up Bucs defense at 3rd where Harrison is abysmal, who can then resume his super utility role. Diaz provides plus defense behind the dish with adequate to better offensive potential. Keller is a hard-throwing 19-year old who would project to pitch in his home town (Cedar Rapids) next summer.
  2. Both are 18-year old, rail-thin infielders from Venezuela. Each are following up very solid pro debuts in last summers DSL with outstanding starts in the GCL. Not that I'm bored with the upper-level prospects that we already have, but does anyone have any info on this pair?
  3. Didn't see this posted, but Jorge led off and made two errors for Rochester tonight.
  4. Was he DFA'd? Is this to clear a spot on the 40-man roster? I believe we're only at 39, including Buxton & Nolasco on the DL. I assume this is a prelude to another move. I can only see Fryer or ABWII as potential roster additions from the farm right now. Guesses? Linky: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/07/twins-outright-doug-bernier.html
  5. I wonder how much of a factor having ready replacements for Chattanooga has in deciding who and when to promote someone. Peavy went up a week ago because Wheeler needed to go down. I would guess Berrios' spot in the lookout rotation goes to Hu. Is anyone available to step in for Sano? Could that effect his call-up?
  6. KC didn't have Hunter, Dozier & Hell, ...even Mauer to mentor and guide their youth movement. Royal pitching was abysmal prior to the past couple of years, except for one or two arms per season. Ours is at least average right now. The simple fact is that Buxton, Sano & Polanco will be in our starting line-up by next April. Let's get their feet wet now in a wild-card bid, so they're ready to go for it all right from the get go in 2016.
  7. It just kills me to see a line-up with Suzuki, Escobar or Nunez in the 6-7 holes. We caught lightening in a bottle twice last year with Vargas & Santana. Maybe Sano & Polanco could have the same impact. Not sure if we're more protective of the latter two because they are certain to be part of our future, whereas Kennys & Danny were far from being 'sure things.'
  8. 99 pitches. I guess it was the reason. I'd have probably given him a little more rope. Of course, I don't know how Milone felt. Maybe he said he was done.
  9. After missing the entire 2014 season, no one should be surprised by Miguel's slow April in Chattanooga. However, since then he has more lived up to the hype. His line since May 1st; G 47 AB 172 R 42 H 54 2B 15 3B 1 HR 10 RBI 36 BB 26 IBB 2 K 44 SB 4 CS 1 .AVG .314 .OBP .404 .SL .587 .OPS .991 I don't care if we have to move Plouffe to SS to get Sano in the line-up. The time is now!
  10. What would it take top get Clippard & Reddick from the A's? Would Arcia and a starter outside of our Top 10 be enough? Who else would we be willing to include?
  11. I must admit GM, I'm not into cyber-metrics. Not that I don't believe them. I'm just not very bright. But I assume those numbers essentially add up to an increase in the "R" column on the scoreboard. I've been watching Chattanooga a lot on the MiLB website and Walker doesn't seem to swing out of his shoes like Arcia does. That leads me to believe there is hope for him to reduce his K rate a lttle and appease a few of the nay-sayers. Don't get me started on Oswaldo, though. What a waste.
  12. ABWII started this season in the #7 hole in the batting order. He's worked up to #5 recently. At Cedar Rapids in 2013, he was usually around #5-7. Not sure where he was in the order at Ft. Meyers in 2014. I do know he's leading in the race for his 3rd consecutive RBI Crown, despite not hitting directly behind the table-setters. In his 2012 Rookie league campaign, he finished 4th. The guy is a flat out run producer! A .250 BA and a lot of K's ain't always a bad thing if you're still putting numbers on the board.
  13. Twins go back to their 'old (U of) Kentucky home' for pick at #73, huge RH Kyle Cody or Cody Kyle.
  14. I really think that they just want to let that core gel together for a while. None are old for AA and could form the nucleus for the next several years.
  15. Got #11 tonight. I'll say 25 certainly is within reach.
  16. Funny stuff, Madre. As someone who knows/knew Miguel, did you get a sense that he has any concern over his size or diet? I know he's still just a kid, but it's amazing how fast it can switch from controlling your weight to your weight controlling you.
  17. With his second hit tonight (5/23), Miggy's average is now up to .247. I'm guessing that's still a smidge under his actual body weight. Naturally I'd like to see his average keep climbing. But in reality, I'd consider it a successful season if he can at or above current with extra base hits galore.
  18. At the time of the trade, I'm sure the Twins were hoping Meyer would become a right-handed version of Randy Johnson. But everyone knew there was a risk. Finding a consistent release point and fluid delivery at 6'9" ain't easy. With the arms the Twins have on the horizon, I'd be satisfied at this point if he can become a harder throwing version Jon Rauch.
  19. Does Hicks go right onto the #1 slot in the order like he was at Rochester? I'd like to see him hit 7th or 8th at first, just to get re-acclimated. Gotta admit, it kills me to see Suzuki in the heart of the order though. I'd much rather see Hunter, Plouffe & Vargas at 4,5,6 in some order. Obviously we're stuck with Mauer at #3, no matter what.
  20. I'm down with Hicks getting another shot, provided he has addressed the issues he was told to address at Rochester. On the surface, things look great. But who knows what Mollie and staff expect him to accomplish? Not me.
  21. Interestingly, only 7 of their combined AB's have come against lefties. They are 3-7, with a triple & HR. Overall, I think they have just been too eager. Buxton is showing more patience as of late. Sano will too.
  22. Pinto for Vargas? Oliveros for Stauffer, Boyer or Thielbar? Need some pop in the middle of the order and some K's in the 'pen.
  23. I've noticed in most games so far this season, Chattanooga has utilized Walker in LF & Harrison in RF. Isn't this the opposite of how Dougie aligned them in Ft. Myers last year? If so, do you suppose this is just a matter of trying to familiarize each of them with both corners, or perhaps confirmation of Walkers less than stellar right arm? Also, with Kepler's arrival it looks like he may be rotating through the OF/1B & DH spots to stay in the line-up and allow others a day off. Hopefully the Lookout locomotive starts chugging soon. Quite frankly, I'm much more interested in what happens there than in the cities this season.
  24. Obviously there are light-years of difference between AA & Major League pitching. That said, I don't think there are many pitches in the majors that Buxton hasn't already seen. Just not with anywhere near the frequency or consistency. I'm not certain that batting ninth and struggling in the majors would be that detrimental to Byron's development, as opposed to leading off and fairing somewhat better in AA. In addition to having unfettered access to daily mentorship from the likes of Molitor, Brunansky, Hunter & Mauer, he would also have use of what I can only assume are superior video and training facilities at the big league level. Whether in Mineapolis or Chattanooga or Rochester, he's still gonna need to learn which pitches he can handle and which ones to let go. In spite of all that I think the Twins best option if Schaeffer isn't cutting it, is to go with Hicks to buy time. We know the defense would be adequate and if he tanks again quite frankly, who cares? Three strikes and 'yer out! This is baseball afterall.
  25. If nothing else, it seems the path is clear for whoever is performing well in the minors to get a chance to get their feet wet this season. May is already getting his shot in the rotation. I wouldn't be at all surprised if Meyer, Rogers, Wheeler & Berrios aren't all told to keep a bag packed and ready. In the 'pen, it's just a matter of seeing who starts out hot. There are numerous hard-throwers in AA-AAA who are just a phone call away. The next 2-4 weeks could be as brutal as the past week, but I doubt they let it linger much past early May before they start making changes.
