  1. Exactly. And it's not like the guy has just gotten hot. He's been on this pace for 250 AB's. The guy is the Italian Roy Hobbs, for Chrissakes! Are we really afraid that he's gonna take AB's away from Ryan Effin Doumit? We've seen the best that clown has to offer and it's middling serviceable, at best.
  2. Except one could argue that The Crap Filler you eluded to may have more value to the future of this team than Morneau does. People seem to forget that the "Team Player" has been compensated to the tune of about $75million for his services, and trading to a contender to finish out his walk year isn't exactly like throwing him on the **** heap. It could actually be doing him a favor to get a chance to have some success in meaningful games and help enhance his FA value.
  3. The good reason is to see once and for all if either or both Parmelee & Colabello can fill the position until some of the younger guys take it from them. Morneau will not be here next year, no matter what. We should find out over the remainder of the season whether 1B is a position of need or not.
  4. We're on the same page here. I love to take a chance on Betances' fastball, and bet the Yanks would jump at the offer. The main benefit would be giving Colabello a chance at regular AB's while he's En Fuego!
  5. Don't cry for poor Justin. He's got about 75million reasons to keep his chin up, whether the Twins dump him for marginal prospects or he signs an incentive-laden FA deal with a new team in the off-season. Contending or not, I have no doubt that Parmelee & Colabello can assume Morneau's AB's with at least similar run production. Besides, it's important to see if either or both can fill the 1B spot as a stop gap until either Sano, Vargas, D. Hicks, Harrison or whomever is ready to stake their claim on the position. Justin will NOT be returning next year, so why leave things in limbo going forward? I guarantee that the Yankees would give up something of potential value, even if that player may be years away from contributing.
  6. Can't say it was a mistake. He hit himself into the job in Florida & Mastro was not healthy enough to be counted on, even for the short term. Hicks was finally putting up decent numbers at the time of his injury, and should reclaim the job unless he absolutely stinks in his rehab.
  7. Didn't take the time to read the whole thread, but I'll say one name, ... Colabello. Is he the answer? No, but the guy is absolutely raking in AAA and needs major league AB's to see if he can be a stopgap along with Parmelee until Vargas, Hicks, Sano or whomever is ready to take over full time. Willingham, Morneau and Doumit have no real value on the Twins roster right now because none will be with the club beyond next season at the latest. Get whatever you can now and invest the savings in guys who might be a part of the future.
  8. That's nice to hear. Or it could be really bad, showing how out of touch our scouting staff is. For now, I will choose to believe that they are ahead of the curve.
  9. Or C) The defense is still a work in progress, but is neither more difficult to teach or learn at the AA level than at the High A level. Not even sure if the fields are any nicer at the higher level. Presumably, the guys they will be defending with are a tick above the ones at Ft. Myers, but even that isn't a given. Bottom line, the defensive aspects of their development are only minimally affected by what level they play at. Let's just hope they get it down once they hit Target Field.
  10. Catch the last paragraph. Souhan believes Sano could be the Twins starter @ 3rd, next April!
  11. I'm in the Trey Ball camp, as well. However, I think you let him play OF initially. Give him a couple years to fill out physically, and save the wear and tear on his young arm. If at that point you don't think the bat is gonna play, you've got a physically developed 6'6" southpaw with a cannon who should progress pretty fast.
  12. My concern with Stewart is the leverage he has with a Texas A&M football scholarship in the bank. No way he settles for anything less than slot money plus, IMHO.
  13. Something tells me May finishes the season as a starter, but becomes a potential closer next year due to his inability to master the control of multiple pitches. I'm just spitballing here, but I think he has to work too hard to try and mix things up over multiple innings, and will be much better suited to just come in and rock & fire for one inning at a time.
  14. I should probably watch how I word this, but I'm a big fan of Ball's, too. With his physical tools and what sounds like a pretty smart approach to developing his game (uses a wooden bat now & didn't even try a breaking pitch until he reached the high school level,) he seems pretty committed to improving his skills package. Plus he appears to have the flexibility of switching from either the bump or the box if he should falter at whichever position he tries first. Personally, I'd start him in the OF and see if he can handle the stick at the pro level. If it doesn't work out in a few years, he should be physically mature with a well rested cannon from the left side. There's always room in the pen at least for a southpaw who can throw in the mid-90's.
  15. No. What I'm saying is that Sano, Walker & Bryant are all big, Right-handed sluggers that will likely end up at 1B or RF. Sano & Bryant each have an outside shot at sticking at 3B, but that's up for debate. Frazier & Meadows are both more toolsy in terms of of athleticism, with Meadows batting lefty. I guess I'm of the philosophy that you can never have too many toolsy OF's, though I'd rather have an Ace hurler at this point. Either way, I'm not gonna make the call from the interweb. I'll trust our scouting dept. to select the BPA, regardless of postion.
  16. I don't have a problem with Parmelee taking over at first, for now. He's got a long way to go to lock the position down though. Bottom line on Morneau is that we can get at least similar production for a fraction of his cost. I'll be shocked if they don't move heaven and earth to deal him at the deadline for at least one higher tier prospect.
  17. I hope the Twins stay away from Bryant. I think we've already got him in Adam Walker and Miguel Sano. Give me a power arm like Manaea or Stewart, or another toolsy OF like Frazier or Meadows. I trust their scouts to choose which one they prefer. But Bryant to me is just too one dimensional and too comparable to both of the aforementioned Twins prospects.
  18. Was Razor Shines the Loons Manager, bitching about the HR/single with the umps after the game, or was there another issue that preceded the walk-off that he was complaining about? Anyone who was there that might know?
  19. Looks like they both left the basepath, but each did touch the plate with Hicks before Walker. Since they didn't leave said basepath in order to avoid getting tagged it shouldn't matter. IMHO a Grand Slam occurred and should be credited. Hopefully the video will make it's way to the league office and it will be restored.
  20. Hit #9 on Friday. Interesting that last season only 25 players hit more than 9 FSL homers all year. Only 10 hit more than 12. Another week or two like this and Miguel may force the Twins hand. With Levi Michael back in action, there are only so many innings available at 2B/SS for he, Rosario & Petterson to split. A Sano promotion could open the door at 3rd for Levi & Adam to prove their worth as potential Utility IF's down the road.
  21. I know it's early, but Levi Michael is 2-2 as DH, with 2 triples in his 2013 debut @ Ft. Myers.
  22. Not that there was any doubt, but it's nice to hear evidence that he's got some spirit!
  23. Sano, Meintkiewicz & Wickens were ejected immediately after Miggy's 6th HR in the Ft. Myers game today. Anyone know what may have happened?
  24. How bad can Arcia be in CF? I mean we're putting up with Willingham in LF and Plouffe at 3rd most of the time. Would it really be so bad if Ozzie gets a few starts in the middle?
