  1. Bottom line. With a five game skid and almost zero offensive production from CF or the entire line-up in general, something's gotta happen to shake things up. Ozzie is absolutely raking, and is only two weeks removed from the watchful eyes of our entire evaluation staff. Granted he was in the minor league camp, but they still were watching him daily and have a very good idea how he's swinging it. I'll be shocked if he's only around for three days. I'm convinced the idea is to give him AB's and let him run with them.
  2. So to qualify as a 'Super 2' or whatever the term is, he would have to stay up the rest of the this season plus the next two to qualify for arbitration?
  3. This is what stands out for me too. Correct me if I'm wrong, but whether he's up for three days or 300, his service time clock keeps ticking regardless. I don't think they bring him up unless they're giving him a chance to stick. Ramirez can play CF as well. Doesn't look good for Aaron at mid-week, but it's probably best for him to work things out at Rochester. I do think if Oz can handle it the job, we'll definitely be a seller at the deadline (if not way before.)
  4. What's the prognosis on Pinto's defense behind the plate? A solid year at AA/AAA this year could certainly put him in line for a spot behind Mauer if he's not a Matt LeCroy on D.
  5. Quick, bold prediction. By the end of the month his BA will be up to the .240 range, with an OBP over .300. He'll trend upward and end the season in the .270/.340 range, while providing stellar D. Clearly he's pressing right now, but his patient approach at the plate will begin to pay off.
  6. Then pulled. Ouch! Josue Montanez is making his CR debut trying to take care of the final 6 outs.
  7. Looks like he's perfecto through 7.
  8. Don't forget that a pinch-hitter off the bench may be required for Floriman or Escobar in the nine hole and Carroll or Dozier in the two-hole on a regular basis. Who's that gonna be? Has to be somebody with more pop than whomever isn't starting at 2nd or SS.
  9. Got me again. I made the original post without really looking at the career stats. Pujols is in another league from everyone else, as his 10-year $240mil deal would suggest. My point was that if Justin can return this year, close to the player he was from '06-10 (season averages of; .302, 31-HR, 112-RBI, .915-OPS) he would be worth extending for about 4 years at $15per. He may show some decline over that span, but as 1B who doesn't rely on speed it shouldn't be much. Paul Konerko is evidence of that.
  10. Err, ...I meant the Pujols' of the past couple years and going forward. Yeah, that's what I meant. OK. I was being a bit liberal with the word similar. But I still contend that anything near Justin's peak numbers would well be worth an extension half the length of Pujols' for about 2/3 the annual rate.
  11. He's only 31. If his health really has returned to pre-concussion form, there is no reason why he can't play 1B/DH for another 4-5 years at peak performance levels. He's 1 & 1/2 years younger than Pujols, in better shape and capable of similar production (albeit not as consistently.) He'll command about half the money & half the term. If he proves he's back over the first months of the season as many are hoping, you extend him before the he hits the market. Period! I know people say that they're not gonna negotiate during the season, but if you plop down a 4-year offer @ $15-16m per, he takes it.
  12. I would guess as was posted earlier, that the OF in CR could be pretty crowded this summer and they may look to push someone up a level to open up playing time. TR probably feels that Maxie is the most capable candidate. In addition, since he signed four years ago, it might behoove them to step-up his timetable a bit.
  13. From seeing him in Thursday night's game, I think it's fair to say that Sano has completely filled out his frame. He has always been physically mature for his age, and I think it's safe to say he's done growing at 19, in terms of his frame. I suspect it will take a concerted effort on the part of he and the Twins training staff to prevent a mid-section expansion a la Fielder, Cabrera, Ortiz & others. But I think he showed the other night that he has the physical ability to play the hot corner. Obviously, fine-tuning his skills is required (as evidenced by his 42 errors at Beloit.) But I expect that the Twins' Brain Trust understands that as valuable as he can be at the plate, his worth increases exponentially if he can remain at 3rd base. I think it's safe to assume he will remain there until he absolutely proves that he is a liability. I seriously think we're still years away from that point.
  14. I agree. He'll be good enough there if he works at it. Don't forget the abyss that has been the Twins hot corner for a decade plus. We're gonna quibble because this guy with more power than Conn-Ed will never win a Gold Glove? Christ! Last year's World Series opponents got there with a Panda Bear & a Sasquatch at 3B. I think Miguel Angel Sano will be fine.
  15. I didn't post this with the intention of suggesting anyone that opts for Kirby, Mauer, Oliva, Hrbek, Carew or someone else was wrong. I merely meant that for myself, Harmon was the reason I became a Twins fan and have remained loyal for nearly 50 years. I loved Kirby as well, but the'Killer' will always be #1 in my book.
  16. I named my son Harmon. 'Nuf said.
  17. Anyone know if stats or boxscores get posted anywhere for these?
  18. I only live about a half hour away from CR. I'm looking forward to several outings at Veterans Memorial Stadium this summer.
  19. The Skoal Patrol
  20. Probably wouldn't take all that much for Harang or Capuano. I expect the Dodgers would be pleased just to shed the salary. Along those lines, maybe a bullpen arm like Duensing or Slama might be enough.
  21. Any trade of Mauer would require Bogaerts, Lawvarney & Bucholz or Lester, plus a hard throwing lower level arm as well. Maybe we throw in a scrap or two of chum from the minors, but I wouldn't be happy with any lesser return than that.
  22. I'm of the opinion that whatever Hicks has left to learn, he can learn at the big league level. Defensively there seems to be no doubt that he can cut it right now, with a ++ arm. Offensively he would benefit as much from watching, talking and playing with guys like Morneau, Mauer & Willingham, than he would from a AAA coach. Film study and opponent scouting are better at the big league level as well. I figure Hicks has about 2-3 years to lay claim on this job or Buxton will be pushing him out anyway.
  23. I hope they give the CF gig to Hicks and ledt him sink or swim.
  24. As much as I like Johan, and would love to see him come back, he's owed $25.5mil next year & 25mil (5.5mil buyout) in 2014. No way Mets would eat enough salary for the Twins to bring him back.
  25. It's been mentioned that the Twins would like a LH bat that can play third to compete/platoon with Trevor Plouffe. I'm not too excited to hear Jack Hannahan's name bandied about, but what about Eric Chavez? He had a solid comeback year in NY, playing about 60-games at the hot corner. He only made $900K last year, so I bet he could be had for $2-2.5mil, tops. Would he be worth it?
