  1. It's been opined elsewhere that some of these FA pitchers with a question mark or two due to health or other factors, might consider one year deals in a pitcher friendly ballpark in order to drive up their value for next season. McCarthy, Haren, Jurrjens, Lannon and quite a few others could fall into that catagory. If you got Haren for 1/10, you might be able to backload a nice deal for a guy like Sanchez and still have enough to spend on another decent arm.
  2. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Guerra wouldn't have to clear waivers if he has options left, would he? Not sure if he has options left, but he's never pitched at the big league level yet. Has he been on the 40man for more than three seasons?
  3. I know I'm biased because BJ is a fellow Iowan, but I still have hopes for him to be a member of the rotation sooner rather than later. I know his velocity has never reached the projections that were set for him based on his big frame. His strikeout numbers have fallen short of ideal as well. But he seems to pitch smart and since he will only be 23 when he begins the 2013 season in the AAA rotation, I'm gonna keep my thoughts positive on him. Assuming Gibby and/or Hendricks start the season in the big-league rotation, any idea what the rest of the Rochester rotation shapes up like?
  4. I plan on taking in a bunch of Kernels games this summer. I only live about 30 minutes from Cedar Rapids. Looking forward to seeing Buxton, Kepler and maybe Berrios 1st-hand. Will post reports.
  5. If Willingham or a package that he headlines could bring us a Teheran, Delgado, Hellickson or Moore, or someone along those lines, I'd make that move in a New York minute. Hopefully Ryan would too. Let's face it, the guy will be 34 on opening day and is coming off by far the most productive two-year stretch of his 9-year career. He's has only downside in front of him. His reasonable contract could inspire someone on the verge of contention to overpay, but even a repeat of last seasons numbers isn't gonna make the Twins a contender. A starting pitcher who was at least adequate, even if we end up with Arcia, Hicks or Benson in LF (or a bargain basement veteran) would make a more positive impact on our record than running Willingham out there again next season.
  6. I'm really quite surprised that this is a one for one deal. Granted Meyer has oustanding upside, but also a high potential for failure having not pitched above the 'A' level. I would have expected another piece to come the Twins way in a deal like this. At least it should free up some cash to help add a short-term solution or two in the starting rotation.
  7. Not sure of the particulars of MLB contracts, but couldn't they offer him a lesser buyout and free-agency, or tell him he'll spend next year as a $3mil back-up in AA-AAA? I would assume there's still a market for him in his homeland. Maybe they could sell him back to a Japanese team for next to nothing if they assumed his contract. He was already making that much over there before wasn't he?
  8. ...but my pre-season pick to click at the Low A Level is off of the DL and mashing the ball. Keep it up, Kennys Vargas! Won't be 22 for a couple weeks, and yanked his 6th dinger in 32 AB's tonight at Beloit.
  9. Don't really need a southpaw to replace him, with Deunsing and maloney already in the pen. They'll probably just have Marquis take Perkins roster spot.
  10. UPPER - BEST - Brian Dozier - The guy is good, and will prove it to all doubters by late spring. BREAKOUT - Drew Butera - The bat's gonna come alive back in AAA! He'll rake at upwards of .230-.240. LOWER - BEST - Oswaldo Arcia - Watch Ozzie climb all the way to AAA this summer. BREAKOUT - Angel Morales - No big surprise here. Just being healthy and hungry will lead to his best year yet. EST/ROOKIE - BEST - Kennys Vargas - Not sure why he's on the restricted list right now. But I like his career arc so far. BREAKOUT - Jorge Polanco - Look for the 18 year old to begin to live up to his promise.
