  1. Fair point, but some here still seem to be under the illusion that signing any FA now will have any impact on when this team is actually competitive again. Stricly indirectly via future flip as you say, and that is after they have figured out how to develop at least two or three of their own players, which will take 2-3 years at a minimum.
  2. At the end of this deal is about as soon as you can expect this team to be competitive, so it's really just filling a gap until they know what they have overall. Then you extend him or go get someone that really matters.
  3. There is no reason to make assumptions about the future of this club based on the past. The new regime appears to actually want to work from a plan, rather than BS the fan base and be buddies with the Pohlads.
  4. This this this. Why spend money on anyone at the MLB level when your developmental system needs to be rebuilt entirely? Doing otherwise is the same snake oil that Terry Ryan sold to the fan base for five years now.
  5. The opportunity cost is that this club is not a home for former players anymore, it's a place for young talent that might be able to make a meaningful contribution in 3-5 years.
  6. Thankfully the new PBO and GM don't care about familiar faces, and won't waste time on projects like Santana because they are familiar faces.
  7. I couldn't call in. Did they say anything worthwhile? Or was it all covered in the Phil Miller article about "difficult decisions" this morning? http://www.startribune.com/twins-considering-all-options-including-very-difficult-decisions-with-players/401817835/
  8. And he gets to re-file for a higher pension payment after another year or two of MLB service.
  9. I guess this means the article about Mauer "looking and feeling great" will be somewhere around February 20th?
  10. I think I read this whole thread, and haven't seen any mention whether his home/road games are by contract. If Bert was able to negotiate a new deal for two years with 20 fewer games on the road, that is essentially the equivalent to 3 additional weeks of vacation time to him in a 6 month work year.
  11. Nice way to work Mauer into this thread, too. LOL
  12. I had intended to put some of the numbers together, but this season has made clear that the debate about Target Field being a black hole for home runs has clearly been resolved. Notice the talk of moving the fences in has completely gone away.
  13. I wouldn't characterize any goings on of anyone currently on this roster as "sad", other than perhaps Polanco, Buxton, and Sano. Anyone else will not be part of a successful run for this team. Unfortunate for him, maybe, but meaningless in terms of where this team is at.
  14. I didn't look at how much time was spent on the "ballpark experience" part of the video, but it's easy to disagree with that being any part of a factor in renewing season tickets any more.
  15. Molitor said "he's not really a home run guy" in the postgame interview yesterday. So I guess that means he will continue to treat him like a lead-off guy...........................
  16. It's immature as hell, and a symptom of the "look at me" social media environment these guys are being brought up in. Does the phrase "Act like you've been there" mean anything any more?
  17. Isn't this exactly the same as what they show during almost every rain delay now?
  18. At least for the first time in a long time we don't have to hear about Terry Ryan monitoring the waiver wire for relief help, which results in a scrap-heap pickup.
  19. And with one move, Antony solidifies himself as the next GM of this ballclub.
  20. Serious question...is it possibility this ownership/management group is isolated at the owners' meetings because they are just plain hard to talk to? I seriously wonder if they are engaged in the game as a whole, or if they are just known as the "weird dudes from Minnesota that have a cute little club."
  21. Sadly there is little question that St. Peter's job is completely safe as well. As the voice of the team, he should be going out the door with the General Manager.
  22. He is wrong, however. He also has control over how much beer he drinks and how much he eats. Though that seems to be a low concern on his priority list over the last few years.
  23. Guilt by association is life in professional sports. Anyone in the business that doesn't have a couple of years' of income set aside is playing with fire.
  24. The real question is are we going to have to suffer through endless promotion of who we should vote online for? Please give us a break just one terrible year.
  25. Is this no longer just a place to waste time on the internet? Just checking
