  1. Give the team another bad attendance season and it sounds like a great reason to do a promotion. Also 2020 will be the ten year anniversary of the ballpark, certainly worth celebrating with a promotion!!
  2. Does Mauer get a spot in the Twins HOF? I don't recall if the articles included that or not. Wouldn't that be a lower honor that would come first, as there are more members of the team HOF than retired numbers?
  3. This strikes me as a sad attempt to create a marketing draw in a down attendance season. It's a bit fast, isn't it?
  4. Let us not forget the era of Glenn Perkins bailing on Metrodome final game ceremonies for a hunting trip. About nine years later he finishes his career with the same club in tears in the club house. This will be forgotten about eventually.
  5. Coaching is all about accumulating service years to qualify for the MLB pension plan. Heard second hand straight from the mouth of a former Twins coaching staff member. The coaches are generally tied to the manager, so they hope that manager has a job somewhere for enough years to get them a full pension.
  6. Wouldn't a television broadcast be above average if they gave an optional audio to a synchronized radio feed? There is money to be made there if done right.
  7. You must not have liked Vin Scully.
  8. If one of the objectives is to mix up the bullpen, I'd have to think the bullpen coach job may be up for a change. I'm not advocating one way or another, it's just the reality of baseball.
  9. I'm just glad we have a reason to talk about T-Nish again.
  10. I heard somewhere they have software that simulates game situations and the outcomes of situations based on how the candidate responds, creating other game situations. Just an example of a specific tidbit I heard once somewhere. No source.
  11. Can I take this opportunity to offer up how likely is it that we hear a number of beat reporters in the Spring telling us from Fort Myers "Sano looks GREAT!" a la Delmon Young when he became skinny D for three months.
  12. So much this. I find it pretty hard to stand up and cheer when he hits a home run. DFA him and move on from this waste of time; I don't care how many home runs he hits.
  13. Remarkably, ownership hasn't come up in this thread at all, and I think it is at least a minor, if not equal factor in the disfunction so far. The current ownership assumed the operation just as baseball evolved in a big way and got much more complicated than it was when Terry Ryan could pick guys with the eye test and make good decisions. As the industry was moving to a systematic, technology and mathematical based industry, the Pohlads took over as "non-baseball" owners. They relied on the "baseball people" to make good decisions. In a sense, I think they continue to do this to a fault, which can make them hard to work for. There is a sense that they want to conserve money, but I'm not sure they ever actually say it. I would be genuinely interested in whether they have told the new regime what they want, and what they expect, or if they just say "we trust you guys; you've blown us away already with how much more you know about baseball than we do." In a sense, they have handcuffed the new guys between reading between the "culture" and the "desire to win" completely on their own without giving them enough clear direction on where they are willing to make trade-offs. They certainly don't speak on behalf of the team publicly, which does them no favors as owners. Also as others have said the outperformance in 2017 screwed up what should have been the beginning of a true rebuild. TLDR; I think there may well be a culture problem, which starts at the top, and I'm not sure it's ever easily resolved under this ownership group.
  14. They are finally getting to do what Billy Smith and Terry Ryan should have started in 2011. Unfortunately the team over-performed last year, which screwed up the PR of starting a proper rebuild. It's still too early to confirm they are properly committed to rebuilding, but the early indication says they are.
  15. Team without Mauer is a team that is "giving up." A team with Mauer is a team that at least has kept "their best player" to the average fan base. When you're considering whether to drive up from Mankato to go to one game or weekend set of games per year, this is how the fan base thinks. With as many holes as the team has to fill, Mauer isn't their biggest problem, and taking a small shot at retaining fans has relative value.
  16. Considering the number of issues they have to deal with, he has value in fan base retention and adding a small amount of stability and a form of beteran leadership. I'm no fan, but considering the state of this team I think you give him at least another year at a reasonable price if he wants it.
  17. Does this mean those of us that were suggesting Sano's efforts were less than disarable a few weeks ago can go back to doing so without getting warning messages from mods? Not really sarcasm.
  18. Consider this post the first planted seed of a rumor that Ozzie is looking to get back into managing a team, and the Twins have been talking to him.
  19. DIdn't he just go on the DL with a broken hand? How does that time factor into the suspension? You'd think were they knew this was about to hit, they could have avoided DLing him and just let the suspension cover his time away. Unless they can do that anyway?
  20. Agreed. This potentially defends those of us that suggested Sano has a reputation for giving less than a full effort. But I agree that depending on the context, it might mean Molly believes he can't give a full effort.
  21. I believe saying anything negative about Sano or your perceived impressions of his attitude were reason for a sterm talking to in the other thread.
  22. Gladden mentioned he was an elite defensive third basemen during the broadcast tonight. That has to be worth something, no?
  23. A better way of saying what I'm trying to say.
