  1. Sell the team to new owners that care about winning.
  2. This offseason is a disaster.
  3. For what it's worth, St. Peter is one of those guys that proudly announces "I'm not a baseball guy" when in front of certain audiences, including the usher staff from a story I heard. Guys like Jim Pohlad and St. Peter have been more than happy to have a structure in place that excludes them from baseball decisions, and they make it clear they want to delegate that out. It's unfortunate that they are so proud of it, but at least they finally hired someone to actually run that rather than just the GM.
  4. Yeah, they only one two championships wearing those uniforms. No good reason at all.
  5. Great rule change on upping the number of batters to 3. That in fact will certainly improve pace of play more than anything that's been done so far. I'd guess ultimately the September roster change will settle on 30, since that's about where many teams landed anyway.
  6. Being at this game, this fan base is pathetic. They cheer cheer cheer every terrible bullpen pitcher when they announce his name, and they stand with blank looks in the urinal line during the game rather than being pissed off at how terrible this team played. Then after the game the resounding opinion is "well shoot it was a fun season and they weren't supposed to be this good." Not only does this team not know how to win, this fan base doesn't know how to expect winning.
  7. Perhaps everyone could have used just a little more nap time, or a little less nap time.
  8. I suppose it is off the topic, but if both players have real market value when the time comes and this ownership or FO determines they can't afford to keep both of them, they are going to miss on an opportunity to prove they are stepping up to the plate when it really matters.
  9. Giving up a five run lead against a terrible team, thrashing the bullpen, and going from a good pace to a drag? Hardly. This team just isn't good enough to win in the playoffs right now.
  10. At this point this FO personnel is only interesting after everyone in Houston has already told you no. Win a playoff series and then maybe they gain some value. At this point they've done nothing but talk about winning when you look at real results a big name is going to look for.
  11. Why no magic number thread? Why can't I post pictures? BYTO was fun.
  12. Absolutely they do. I assume it might be the same broadcast that is playing on the speakers in the bathrooms, but am not sure. Keep in mind the WCCO broadcast is really delayed so it is way out sync to listen to if you are watching the action live.
  13. The frequency is posted on the big board from time to time. I think it might be at the low end, like 88.3, but I've never actually done it. I will confirm a special effort by a few die-hards went into making it in live sync.
  14. Those of us (including me) that choose to judge Miguel Sano based on his personal character and ALLEGED behavior need to remember how Kirby Puckett's personal issues came to light near the end. I never saw Killebrew play, and am of the age that idolized Puckett in my childhood, so I have a bias toward him, but will admit I am seeing it differently as I am now around the age Puckett was when he publicly went down hill.
  15. This Twins team will be swept in the first round of the playoffs, assuming they can win the play-in game.
  16. The squirrel made me miss Brendan Harris at 3rd base. He really tore it up at Spring Training that year.
  17. Based on this series, this isn't a team that's ready to contend in the post season. At least not right now. As far as treating them like throwaways, I was glad to see Rocco leave the starters in to use up some innings rather than shred the bullpen.
  18. Can you guys that pay attention to details more closely than I do tell me why I shouldn't loathe Trevor May right now? The mega two handed fist pump on the mound yesterday after the third out strikeout put me over the top. He let an inning get away from him and bailed himself out before completely melting down. You don't fist pump that, you walk off the mound and go away.
  19. Is it possible that sports, politics, and a lot of other parts of our lives were better before Twitter existed?
  20. Rocketpig I agree with your sentiment about being willing to complement them where appropriate. I just think it's disingenuous to hold out that they are investing in the ballpark as an illustration that they will spend money when asked. They (the owners and regime) fall back on that too often. We're about to find out if that changes when the iron is hot.
  21. I brought this up because RocketPig suggested that the team has spent money on the ballpark. My point is that they spend when it benefits them directly, but haven't demonstrated a willingness to spend when it benefits the fans' entertainment value. Short sighted thinking in my opinion.
  22. I won't argue this point with you, but they have a commitment to continually "upgrade" the facility for the taxpayers, but each most upgrades have been in low revenue generating areas or aspects of the park with the end result of increasing revenue.
  23. Running a sports team strictly for profit, and never taking the big financial risk to win.
  24. I think this is hugely misunderstood. I don't know what the other ownership regimes they worked under were like, but I think people mischaracterize the Pohalds. Let me start by saying I loathe what the Pohlads stand for in many ways. Since the next generation took over, however, they have made it clear that they are not "baseball people", and say it regularly in front of staff and even fans. They always delegated the responsibility of payroll to Terry Ryan or Billy Smith, who were running the team under the mindset Carl ran the team on, when they were far less profitable. They continue to delegate all responsibility to their new regime, and that regime says they spend whenever asked on infrastructure and development (I asked this directly of them at a STH meeting). The problem with them is that they don't exude a desire to win to the fans. When the people they delegate to are budget conscious, it makes them look bad, and they have literally zero PR skills as an organization outside of cheesy feel good marketing campaigns.
