  1. I can understand & forgive the Pohlads IF there is a salary crunch because we had a team that didn't have to spend much to make us a viable contender only to make a crucial minor trade for a mid-rotation inning eater in the offseason & another minor trade at the deadline for a LHRP. But those didn't happen. For us to be perennial contenders especially under these conditions, we need a FO who has pertinent philosophies, better player evaluation in development & trades together, puts greater importance on medical records & who has the ability to initiate needed trades. Falvey isn't the one, together with Baldelli who is exactly the yes-man that he wants. Change has to come & it was needed at the top. Because it didn't happen THIS is what I blame the Pohlads (does St. Peter fit here?). They have no idea what they're doing & they are giving total blind control over to Falvey. Because of this we'll never have a competitive team. Because of this decision, it'll affect my enthusiasm for the Twins.
  2. Buxton is a bargain, yes it's a bummer that he's not on the field more, but neither is Mike Trout. He plays elite CF & in short spurts can carry a team, I'll take that. 100 games is above what most expect, I see that as the glass half full. IMO his biggest drawback is his hip scare-tissue & how persistent that is. I'm optimistic.
  3. Most of the 70's & 80's were bad but I expected that. But looking at '24 starting the offseason, our '23 core was still intact, with healthy veteran leadership Buxton, Polanco & Correa, with promising Lewis, Miranda & Kiriloff to start the season & together with promising rookies. Our main hole was Gray, my hope was to trade for a stud but with rising Ryan & Ober, I'd still be satisfied with a mid-rotation inning eater to take the pressure off the rotation & BP & put us in a position to win the Division & advance in the postseason. This hole was not filled at all but instead money was spent on frivolous salaries handcuffing us financially from having money to spend on more important opportunities. Trade opportunities were not taken advantage of during the offseason & deadline. So I wasn't surprised at all by the outcome, nevertheless, I was very disappointed because I thought we had a shot at taking home the whole thing.
  4. You can't underrate any MLB team, especially when things aren't going right. MIA is better than most think.
  5. IMO it's more in Margot's case it's more obeying marching orders of putting Margot in certain situations than trust.
  6. It's all ownership's fault, if they only had a little bit more money they could have acquired Rhys Hoskins (who everyone & the FO wanted) in the offseason & brought back MAT. That'd have solved all our problems. All sarcasm aside beginning the offseason we had a great core of players that finally had postseason success. Together with key players returning from injuries & promising young rookies. The only real hole we had was the departure of Gray, With the hopes that Ober & Ryan would take that next step, All we needed was to make a small trade for a mid-rotation inning-eating MLB arm w/o spending a dime. Instead, they decided to waste precious money on frivolous salaries that ham-strung us & made us weaker not stronger. Our BP weakness showed up early especially LRPs. MIA had been ready to trade A J Puk for any promising prospect, again w/o spending a dime. FO only needed to see our need early & make the trade. They didn't, their strategy is wait & see what's available which is normally scraps. Ownership shot themselves in the foot in response to the Bally fiasco. But the state of the Twins is FO's fault. Due to not being able to evaluate our real need & react quickly plus not being able to initiate a critical trade. Money is going to be an issue forthwith, FO needs to be able to evaluate, develop & make critical trades. A little extra money won't be able to replace that.
  7. I'm for one have been in favor of not playing our players while they are hurting & not able to perform at a reasonable level. To fix the problem. Although the problems haven't been totally fixed, but these are desperate times that demand desperate measures. Margot was acquired to sub CF & be that RH masher off the bench. Margot has been more of a burden than an asset. Thank God for Martin who stepped in and took the brunt of Buxton's absence. While Margot got all the easy LHPs Martin had to struggle against the RHPs. Margot was a big mistake on many levels passed off from LAD. We'd have done better w/o him. With (LH) Keirsey getting most of the time against RHPs in CF & Martin being eased in CF against LHPs. This is just one of the reasons that contributed to our demise.
  8. Very encouraging performance from Raya against a tough Indianapolis team. He pitches much better from the mound than the IL. Keep up the good work! Too bad the RPs couldn't hold the win for him.
  9. What's the matter with Miranda?
  10. I like pitching matchups for this series. Maybe we can pick up 2 out of 3?
  11. '19 was the year of the "juiced ball", Twins players picked up on it early & started to advise each other on how to capitalize on it & everybody was hitting HRs. We got the MLB HR record & Falvey became the MLB "darling". Everybody loved him including me. Thus started the "moonshot mania" where Sano was the poster child even though the next season the "juiced ball" stopped. We still had moderate results with a lot of SOs until the MLB had the book out on us this season. We still had a lot of SOs but very few HRs that started our terrible slump. The approach had to change the focus off HRs to good ABs. If they weren't going to give us pitches to hit HRs, we have to take what they give us. IMO this current slump is due to desperation of trying to solve our run problems by returning to focus on hitting HRs even though they aren't giving us pitches to hit them.
  12. For a long time I've been scouting MIA's pitching (before the deal with Lopez) because they seemed to be great trading partners. Puk did a great job for MIA last season even closed before Tanner Scott came on the scene. MIA's Puk for SP experiment failed, knowing Puk was still a great RP, I put in a trade offer on June 18 through BTV- Puk 1.5 for Cossetti 1.9. On July 6, Puk's value raised to 8.0, I offered Gonzales 11.0 (he was worth the overpay). On July 24 I made another offer Pukk 8.2 for Gonzales 8.0. Here's AZ trade https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/172310 on July 25th. It was a very reasonable deadline trade. MIA was wanting young MLB or MLB ready catcher or SS during the offseason. As the season progressed they made an about face & pivoted towards any promising prospects.
  13. We advanced into the postseason last year & this offseason we basically had the same core. The only hole we needed to fill was Gray. I was hoping for a front-line SP but with the hope that Ryan & Ober would take the next step, all we needed was a mid-rotation inning eater via small trade (that wouldn't cost a dime) to take the pressure off the BP & rotation, that had to be the priority. That need was not addressed & that is where our biggest problem lies. Instead, they squandered the very little money we had on frivolous salaries for players that didn't work out. At the deadline a LHRP need popped up. There were many great reasonable options early but FO's strategy is wait & see what's available at the very end again a need was not met. The problem wasn't money but seeing the need early & making the right trades that never happened.
  14. Correa's arm IMO makes him ideal for 3B. But relays from 2B & DPs also makes sense
  15. My hope is that with this new treatment & Correa would get better footwear (if he's too stubborn to get over Nike, that he'd get insoles better suited for the abuse at SS), he'll stick at SS. IMO Twins were thinking of moving him to 3B (thus the big desperation of moving Lewis to 2B). But the new treatment gave us a reprieve. Sooner or later Correa will move off SS, it'll be tough to replace him. IMO keep him at SS as long as possible, 1B seems to be a waste of defense but if we can cover 3B better or as good as him, I'd yield.
  16. IMO he definitely is. A lot would have to change for him to stick with the Twins but he's a definite MLBer.
  17. Endy Rodriguez (PIT) is a pretty awesome catcher, I wish we had him. He must be getting ready to return to MLB pretty soon.
  18. The Twins played a good game & should have won the game. But IMO the decision of only having journeyman Irwin throw only 3 pitches & not multiple innings in the prior night's game & compounded with sending Alcala down, shorting us for last night's game. That was the difference maker.
  19. AL Central Division has been pretty tough this season. IMO it's the development of the young core among the ranks. I see the Central might be even tougher next season. I wouldn't write off CLE or KC either. CLE don't have a lot of superstars but they work together well & when their famous rotation returns to form look out. KC will be tough as long as Bobby Witt & Pasquantino are healthy. If Witt goes down for any amount of time they're cooked.
