  1. '19 was the year of the "juiced ball", Twins players picked up on it early & started to advise each other on how to capitalize on it & everybody was hitting HRs. We got the MLB HR record & Falvey became the MLB "darling". Everybody loved him including me. Thus started the "moonshot mania" where Sano was the poster child even though the next season the "juiced ball" stopped. We still had moderate results with a lot of SOs until the MLB had the book out on us this season. We still had a lot of SOs but very few HRs that started our terrible slump. The approach had to change the focus off HRs to good ABs. If they weren't going to give us pitches to hit HRs, we have to take what they give us. IMO this current slump is due to desperation of trying to solve our run problems by returning to focus on hitting HRs even though they aren't giving us pitches to hit them.
  2. For a long time I've been scouting MIA's pitching (before the deal with Lopez) because they seemed to be great trading partners. Puk did a great job for MIA last season even closed before Tanner Scott came on the scene. MIA's Puk for SP experiment failed, knowing Puk was still a great RP, I put in a trade offer on June 18 through BTV- Puk 1.5 for Cossetti 1.9. On July 6, Puk's value raised to 8.0, I offered Gonzales 11.0 (he was worth the overpay). On July 24 I made another offer Pukk 8.2 for Gonzales 8.0. Here's AZ trade https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/trades/172310 on July 25th. It was a very reasonable deadline trade. MIA was wanting young MLB or MLB ready catcher or SS during the offseason. As the season progressed they made an about face & pivoted towards any promising prospects.
  3. We advanced into the postseason last year & this offseason we basically had the same core. The only hole we needed to fill was Gray. I was hoping for a front-line SP but with the hope that Ryan & Ober would take the next step, all we needed was a mid-rotation inning eater via small trade (that wouldn't cost a dime) to take the pressure off the BP & rotation, that had to be the priority. That need was not addressed & that is where our biggest problem lies. Instead, they squandered the very little money we had on frivolous salaries for players that didn't work out. At the deadline a LHRP need popped up. There were many great reasonable options early but FO's strategy is wait & see what's available at the very end again a need was not met. The problem wasn't money but seeing the need early & making the right trades that never happened.
  4. Correa's arm IMO makes him ideal for 3B. But relays from 2B & DPs also makes sense
  5. My hope is that with this new treatment & Correa would get better footwear (if he's too stubborn to get over Nike, that he'd get insoles better suited for the abuse at SS), he'll stick at SS. IMO Twins were thinking of moving him to 3B (thus the big desperation of moving Lewis to 2B). But the new treatment gave us a reprieve. Sooner or later Correa will move off SS, it'll be tough to replace him. IMO keep him at SS as long as possible, 1B seems to be a waste of defense but if we can cover 3B better or as good as him, I'd yield.
  6. IMO he definitely is. A lot would have to change for him to stick with the Twins but he's a definite MLBer.
  7. Endy Rodriguez (PIT) is a pretty awesome catcher, I wish we had him. He must be getting ready to return to MLB pretty soon.
  8. The Twins played a good game & should have won the game. But IMO the decision of only having journeyman Irwin throw only 3 pitches & not multiple innings in the prior night's game & compounded with sending Alcala down, shorting us for last night's game. That was the difference maker.
  9. AL Central Division has been pretty tough this season. IMO it's the development of the young core among the ranks. I see the Central might be even tougher next season. I wouldn't write off CLE or KC either. CLE don't have a lot of superstars but they work together well & when their famous rotation returns to form look out. KC will be tough as long as Bobby Witt & Pasquantino are healthy. If Witt goes down for any amount of time they're cooked.
  10. Love your enthusiasm & dedication, Peter. Twins have always been my priority even over the Vikings.
  11. DET never thought about being buyers at this deadline their focus was on the future, They decided to sell off nice pieces that benefitted other teams. Those pieces could have benefitted their surprise push towards the end of the season. Pundits wanted them to sell off Skubal, but their young core has progressed much faster than anyone had thought mid-way. DET will be a force to be reckoned with next season.
  12. I've been confused how bad Farmer had been in the beginning of the season. Farmer has been a masher against LHPs so him playing hurt makes sense about his hitting decline. I wasn't aware of his injury or how it affected him, thank you for shedding a light on it. Farmer like many Twins should have informed the Twins much sooner about his injury obstacle that plagued him & the Twins. Yeah he's been hitting even RHPs better.
  13. Overall IMO the Twins have addressed the problem although they can do better with their pitchers. Many of the Twins' injury problems have been soft tissue coming back from prior injuries. Buxton's problem is due to scar tissue from a previous injury. Correa's is due to poor footwear (as reported) as also with series of Lewis & Kiriloff's injuries as the result from larger ALC & wrist problems. Some injuries like getting HBP or fouling one off your body parts which is hard to avoid. But others IMO injuries problem will be getting better thanks to Paparesta.
  14. Great game from Matthews & Castro. We got the win but it was hard to understand why Irwin was brought in for 1 batter when, he was gotten to eat innings, that forced to bring in Duran in the 8th & again the 9th. With no Alcala, & Sands, Duran & Jax spent, I hope Varland is on his A game.
  15. Buxton must feel pretty good to lead off against a RHSP. Or maybe it's what the computer spit out.
  16. FA?- Ridiculous Trade?- Why? Santana? Because management loves his defense? In-house production? Absolutely yes! The potential of Miranda, Kiriloff & eventually Julien are phenomenal their future is at 1B because the INF & cOF are full. I'm sure Santana's defense wasn't that good until he got steady time at 1B. Miranda, Kiriloff & Julien's time at 1B has been very sporadic, how can they become good if they don't have much experience there? This season was the ideal time for Miranda, Kiriloff & Julien to finally get some substantial time to start to perfect their defense at 1B. But because of Santana fixtured at 1B, this season has been wasted. Why pay a premium over this unnecessary salary to make the same mistake? Yes, Santana had some good ABs after some horrific ones but it was same an economic & developmental mistake.
  17. The core that was so successful in the postseason was pretty much intact in the offseason & we were under budget. Only Gray needed to be replaced. With hope that Ryan & Ober were to step up & a mid-rotation arm that'd eat up innings was all that was needed that could easily be obtained in an easy trade w/o spending a dime. That was our most needed move but they didn't make a real attempt to fill it. Instead of filling that need to the core group they decided to subtract the heart & soul of the team, Mr Clutch, which made a big difference. We absolutely didn't need backup CFer or 1Bman. We spent a lot of wasted salaries on new acquisitions that handcuffed us from making any decent rentals at the deadline even though decent trades could be had but again they did nothing to address a real need.
  18. We started the season with Lopez, Ryan, Ober, Paddack & DeSclavani with unproven as a SP Varland in the hole. There was a lot of hype that Paddack was going to step up pick up a lot of innings & take over Gray's spot & DeSclavani was going to anchor the rotation, we really didn't need to add anyone else. Did they really believed their own hype? Did they really close their eyes to the real condition of Paddack & DeSclavani? And how thin the ice was they were treading on? DeSclavani didn't materialize, Varland bombed. SWR saved FO's neck by pitching well above what they expected. & when Paddack & then Ryan's arm gave out, 2 more rookies stepped up & continued to save this FO's neck. Instead of seeing the real condition of overextending our rookies they refused to seek help & basically told the rookies (with some fan's blessings) to suck it up! Fortunately they are still healthy but they are out of gas. Do the Twins hate Alcala? That's pretty strong but it makes you think in how they treat Alcala that they have it in with him. But maybe in his case too that they refuse to see the real condition of him being hurt for some time until recently & that he needs some special considerations. Instead they see him as stats with options & not see what's best for him & this team. They squeeze what they can & then send him down. Seems like an inconsiderate & inefficient way of getting the best from him.
  19. We needed this game because it was our best chance to win one & set the mood going into this important series. Lopez pitched a great game against a pretty good team & until the 7th which Vazquez helped get him through. Correa, Lewis & Buxton got it done in 1 inning that'd have been good enough if Capt. Jax was superhuman but alas he is human. I disagree with sending Alcala down (IMO Baldelli is holding a grudge against him for some reason). They only needed to manage him better & send someone else down. It doesn't look good going forward. IMO a lot of little things that should have been done in the beginning of the season they are starting to do now but now it's too late & now it's snowballing out of control.
  20. WOW! Correa, Lewis & Buxton getting it done. Lopez also shutting out CLE
  21. We are desperate, so let's poke & hope & see what happens.
  22. I think once they get to know MN, they'd like it. But the cold, & small amount of marketing compared to NY & LA is my guess. If someone else has more to share, IDK.
  23. These 2 series are going to be very tough. CLE will want to gain #1 seed so they aren't going to take it easy on us, plus BOS is fired up & wants to get in the playoffs, while both teams will have home-field advantage & the stadiums will be packed. Playing these 2 teams will be nothing like LAA & CIN (who had nothing to play for) at home yet struggled. MIA will not be a pushover like they were to begin the season. So a sweep isn't going to be automatic, And BAL will have a lot to play for, they'll want to win the division & get a bye,
  24. It's foolhardy to expect to sign a big-name SP FA even if we had money to spend on them, but still people dream if only we had the money to sign them. They won't come to MN unless you throw ridiculous money at them or have a Lance Lynn situation where we lose either way. We don't have to trade a Brooks Lee to obtain a top SP. All we need to do is trade away some top prospects we don't need or top young MLB players that we can live w/o. We are going to face a very serious 40-man crunch because we want to hang unto our prospects. Even a middle-of-the-rotation SP would have helped to ease off the terrible burden put on our pitchers. Again ownership shouldn't be blamed for the lack of ability from the FO for not doing so under their limitations.
